Also doing paleo as of yesterday to trim down from 205 to about 205 or lower.  I'm at 11% body fat. I want to lose the weight to go faster in the bike and run.

Ice, I've been doing Paleo for some time now.  I love it.  I've never felt so GOOD.  Good luck with it.  Not sure if you'll make it a life change, but even a short effort will have tons of benefits, physical and mental.

I'll be asking questions.  :D

Ice and Enrique,

Do you guys have any good resources for the paleo diet.  I am considering giving this a go, but need to work out what I would replace some of my meals with.

Ice and Enrique,

Do you guys have any good resources for the paleo diet.  I am considering giving this a go, but need to work out what I would replace some of my meals with.

Here are some good sites I use:

http://www.wholelifeeating.com/  - lots of recipes

http://paleoista.com/   -- a very successful AG triathlete runs this one

http://whole9life.com/  -- site is down at the moment, but normally is up.  They promote Paleo eating

Highly recommend reading Paleo Diet for Athletes by Cordain and Friel.  They modify the diet for athletes. For example, they add high glycemic carbs to the post workout windows to maximize and speedup recovery.  There are some other things too, but that is one of the big changes that helps when you are putting in hard workouts regularly.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm doing the book.  Will check out the web sites too.  I'm also reading on intermittent fasting.  Interesting stuff.  Paleo is essentially protein, fruits and veggies, as wild and fresh as you can get. I'm not shooting anything these days so we get what we can from the store.  No white potatoes, no grains.

Should have also said, no dairy.  That switched me from coffee to tea - a HUGE change.  I drink a pot every morning.  So far no headache.  Loving that.

I did strength exercises on the computrainer last night.  70 mins with 3 X 15 mins at 85% @ 55 rpm to resemble long hill climbs.  There were 3 X 1 min of extremely high power at 120% during each set.  We do these for a few weeks.  They are the best strength exercise because they target the exact muscles we use for climbing.   I also did some kettlebells, squats, stretching, yoga and foam rollers.  I run an hour tonight and more PT.   In the 30s so I'll go outside.

The Paleo thing is going well.  Lots of energy so far.  Just fruit for breakfast, a salad with chicken for lunch and moderate amount of meat, veggies and fruit for supper.  I am down about 400 calories each day from where I was with the grains and breads.  So far nothing seems to be suffering.  Had plenty of power on the bike last night.  I know this isn't true, but I just feel less bulky already.

Have a great day.

Ice.

I start my computrainer class on Sunday. It's through Vision Quest.  Couple friends of mine have taken this class and love it.  I went as a guest a few weeks ago and enjoyed it so decided to take the plunge and sign up.  Gonna be a tough class, but I do want to get better on the bike.

I'm a VQer too!  Vision Quest rocks.  It will kick your butt!

I am downstate.  There are about 20 of us between Peoria and Bloomington.  Coach is in Bloomington.  We have 0our own CTs.  The Peoria bunch has a great workout place they rent from a bank.  Room for CTs, showers and a track and workout room.

Got the job! I start Monday. Phew, no longer unemployed!

http://www.chezbettay.com/pages/basics1/basics_beans1.html

This is a good site about cooking dried beans, soaking etc. Trying to eat less meat and dairy so the bean thing is helpful.

Paleo - my running coach eats this way. He's a 2:43 marathoner. He leans more toward Vegan these days but he's always experimenting with something.

Today is a trainer ride for me - Sorry Illinois here so have to do a trainer if I want a bike ride in the winter.

Hoping to push it up to 1hr and 15 minutes as an hour is my longest ride to date.  Want my butt to be ready for real rides come this spring!

I guess I'll spin in the next day or so. We are cool out even for Miami. Brrrr.

Lisafeyen - 2012-01-03 11:16 AM Hey everyone! I hit the pool today for swim #2 in my tri journey? Working on my breathing and endurance. I swam a half mile-switching up my strokes. It's going to take some serious work to be able to do the front crawl consistently! Signed up for my first tri on June 3rd.

That's great.  Sounds like you're on your way!

Finding grass-fed beef is rather difficult here where I'm at in California.... and I also don't go shooting - at least not at live targets.

Well I just got on a scale last night...wow.  230lbs!  Im 5'8" and yes over weight.  Not sure what weight is ideal for someone my size.  When I was in top shape I was 160lbs.  Im hoping by my first triathlon in August I will be at least 180.  Im not setting any weight loss goal because I dont want to be dissapointed.  I do know that by getting off the couch and training for this new sport I am sure to lose weight so anything is better then nothing.

Also someone is giving me an excersise bike today.  Its not a computer trainer but its in great(only used twice) shape...lol. So now I have no excuse not to ride durning the cold winter months!

Thanks again for everyones engouragement and support!  Havent figured out how to add everyone on my training logs yet so bare with me on that.

Happy training everyone.

Okey

I'm in the same boat; I'm signed up for a tri in April, but a heel injury this fall has really diminished my fitness level. I'm hoping to take some pounds off and reduce inflamation by doing a two-week fast before kick-starting the triathlon training program.

Hang in there...

The VQ up here has two locations. One in the city and one up in the north burbs.  I will be attending in the burbs.  It's a fairly new facility (right next to a Trek store) with 24 CTs and an area for stretching/ core work/yoga.  Yes, I'm told my butt will be kicked quite soundly.

I just did my Body Bugg and found 3200 burn with 1800 consumed.  Not sure how that will rock.  I can tell you I ran an hour at a solid tempo pace for me for 10K and then did 30 mins of PT with the kettle bells, pushups, planks.  I was a little light headed for a bit at the end of the 4th circuit with the bells.  All good.  I think I will settle into knowing how much I can fuel up for workouts soon and just use liquids to get it done.

Tomorrow morning, 4:30, pool with no heater.  Still have a little pink skin from the food allergy.  Pills gone today so if I still have it, I guess the nurse gets called to see what they suggest.

Also after work, 2 hour bike.

Have a great night.
