I did some speed work last night. Total of 4.5 miles. I was doing 100, 200 and 400 meter drills, mainly to hike up my heart rate as far as possible to determine what my max heart rate is. Based on the various different calculations (there's like 6 or 7 different methods out there) my max heart rate should be somewhere between 170 and 182. Well the test showed that my max is right around 201-203.

Now I can actually train in the right zones.

Had a pretty good swim this morning.  Like someone else said, still not a swimmer but getting better.  I can tell that I am getting stringer and making strides in the right direction.  That is all we can ask right?

But I can admit that I love the fact that I do not dread going to the pool.  It is not the chore it once was.

Oh I look forward to the pool not feeling like a chore.  I hope I get there too.

Had a nice run last night. It was so warm that we were splashing through puddles from all the snow melt.  Crazy weather everywhere this winter I guess.

So I have been able to get in three runs so far this week.  In the past few months I have almost no running due to my knees swelling really bad afterwards.  I have been able to get in 3 runs this week with no swelling of the knees.  My plantar fasciitis is flaring up a little, but not to bad.  So my week so far looks like this.

Monday: 3 Mile Run

Tuesday: 800 Swim and a 3 mile run

Wednesday: Off

Thursday: 1200 warm up, 8x300 at 60 seconds with 2:00 rest, 400 cool down.

5.2 miles of running yesterday. First time since I started my training that I actually hit the "Zone". If it wasn't for the kids needing to get back home I could have gone on and on.

That is awesome.  That is the feeling we are striving for.

Had my first group computrainer session with my tri team today. It was awesome. The computrainer really simulated outdoor riding, hills and all. It was also the first ime I saw my wattage.  Overall, a great experience.

A short 2 mile recovery run yesterday just to stretch out a little after being sick a couple days.

Today I ran the Surf City Half Marathon, a beautiful So Cal day for the race as always.  Temp was 54 degrees at the start and had warmed up the the mid 70's by the finish.

I paced for a couple friends from the running club, brought them in at 1:53:07, a PR for one and the goal pace for the others.

Back to training for the Tri tomorrow.

Had a great swim this morning (1300 with various drills and distances).  I thoroughly enjoy the pool and it is great to be back in the water after some time off.  I'm working my training plan through a plan available on TrainingPeaks.com and it is really helping me balance between pushing myself and building base.  I'm looking forward to getting a run or two in this week while in Atlanta on business (couldn't take the bike along for the trip!

Today was a recovery day after the Half marathon yesterday so no run.

Got in a 14 mile ride tonight before dark, good ride with some hills on the outbound portion.

Now it's off to the pool for a swim, hoping to complete 1000 yards.

With all my training and planning, my biggest area of concern is nutrition.  Today I feel that my energy levels are really low.  I am sure its due to my nutrition.

Any tips on nutrition?

Thanks, but don't feel like a wimp, it was only a recovery from the stand point of no running.  Tonight is a true recovery night, dinner and an appointment with the recliner.  Well deserved rest!

I have a forum question.. I'm pretty new here.   Is there a way in my settings to get this one to be at the top of my list?  I seem to have a particularly hard time locating this in the long list of Mentor Programs....

I am not aware of a setting that will do that. I have this forum set to send me an email anytime a new post is entered. That toggle option is at the bottom of the page when looking at the forum.

45 minute ride on the trainer last night, still hate the trainer, the bike is an outdoor activity where I can smell the ocean and feel the road.  Damn I hate the trainer.

6 mile run with the club this morning, we were joined by Jimmy Grabow who finished 10th in the US Olympic marathon trials.  I have run with and around him for a couple years and it is still impressive to see his fluid, almost effortless stride.  There is definitely an advantage to being 20 something.

Went to Aquatic Park for an OWS.  Still pretty cold even with the wetsuit.  Swam about 800 yards.

Well this week should be interesting.  Friday I suffered a calf injury, so this week I will ride and swim instead of running.  Running is so easy for me that spending the week without it is going to be really hard.

But I know if I want my leg to heal I have to rest it.  Cry

I plan on starting with a couple of sprints earlier in the year with a OLY or 1/2 distance toward the end of the summer.

6/17 Quakerman Sprint

6/30 Buffalo Half Marathon

8/11 Summer Sizzle Sprint

9/23 Pain in the Alleganies 1/2 (maybe, or I'll look for an OLY around this timing)

10/21 Niagara Falls International Marathon

I am currently looking at purchasing a wetsuit and would love to here everyones advice.  What do you prefer and why a full or sleeveless?  I've heard that the full can feel somewhat constrictive.  Looking at some of the historical temps where I'll be swimming the water can vary between 62 and 76 degrees @ event times.
