OK - I promise this will be my last post of the night.

Anybody doing a little indulging before the weigh in for the Portly Triathlete Challenge?

I promise I won't be packing it on to make the scale heavier, I actually lost a couple of pounds this week but with that being said I do have quite a sweet tooth so I may be taking a ride into Boston's North End to the Modern Bakery for a cannoli, they fill them fresh right in front of you (yummy!).

Anyone else want to fess up? You have till 8:00 PM EST Sunday 1/6 to get that something that will carry you through the next 3 months. Smile

I am loosely following one of the higdon plans. Cramming 16 week training into 10 weeks but I am coming off of an offroad tri so would like to think that helps.

James,

Unfortunately I am plenty heavy without trying. It was a bad training week and even a worse fueling week through so I'm guessing I'll be right around 240 tomorrow night.

Sarah,

If your knees hurt after running, I highly suggest icing them as soon as you can after the run. I do on all my runs 10K or more. It really helps with the post run knee pain. I have a torn ACL and only 10% remaining lateral meniscus in my left knee and so any lengthy run at all causes post run pain. Ice may help you run back to back days if that is in your training plan.

Today's weight: 202. I didn't lose anything last year, though I dropped a size. Gotta lose some this year.

After 2 error readings (which always make me think the scale is trying to tell me to get off) I am clocking in at 240.4 lbs. And to the Africans don't walk comment, it takes 2 of them to equal 1 of me. Good luck to everyone. And to all the beginner swimmers, keep practicing. I remember thinking after more than a month of training that there was a good chance I was going to drown somewhere out in the lake. But once I got the hang of it, I had it. Not fast but I survived.

I weigh 160 today. I have 11 weeks until my indoor tri. So at 2 lbs. a week x 11 = 22 lbs. I'll weigh 138 or less by March 24. I'm determined. I'm 5'2" and 160 is way too much to be carrying around. (Of course, I've been saying that for awhile.)

Good luck to all of us!

187 lbs, 18.6% Bodyfat (yikes). I'm going to blame my little brothers eggnog snickerdoodles and too much beer while watching college and pro football. Weird right achilles pain after my run this morn, anyone have this before? know what caused it or how to prevent it?

I am weighing in! I am *gasp* 261.8 pounds. Hopefully by my 70.3 in the fall I will be down to about 210.

I begin my sprint training tomorrow.

Jen, I've had Achilles problems before. It sidelined me for quite a while, so anything you can do to nip it in the bud is a good idea. Here are a few things I did that helped.

The best way I've found to stretch the Achilles is to put your foot/toes up against the wall or a tree or something. With your heel on the ground and your toes up against some support, bend your knee. You don't have to bend it much before you should feel a little stretch in the Achilles. I do that after every run on each side, 2 sets of :30. Of course, ice always helps. And when it was healing, my running store recommended an Achilles compression brace (http://tinyurl.com/9wrdptc). The one thing that helps that I haven't done is stop wearing heels. Heels shorten the tendon so then when you're running and need it to stretch out, it gets aggravated. But I pretty much need to wear heels at work, so that's why I'm so diligent about stretching.

Good luck!

Good morning everyone - looks like we are all super motivated today.

I got up and went to masters swim this morning. After 2 weeks solidly out of the pool it totally kicked my butt. Not to mention that today they set the pool to long course which I love but I was missing the wall halfway to be sure. And just to be extra fun there's a new coach too. I can say that my workout ability did not impress him ... at all. Good thing I have lots of self esteem.

Fun times. Actually - it was hard but I slogged my way through most of the workout and will be back there Wednesday morning.

Forgot to weigh in last night 152.1 this morning. I'm 5'9'' not sure on body fat--I don't trust my scale. I'll see if I can have a trainer at the gym check it.

Well, I survived the Ragnar Relay: Miami to Key West this past weekend.  And before I'm asked....

YES! I'd do it again!!! :-) :-) :-)

The weather was brutal with heat indexes in the 90+ degrees and no respite even during the night time runs since the humidity was a killer.  We had runners in our van with varying pace times from sub 8 minute miles to the the 14-16 min mile pace.  All in all we averaged a 10:40 pace throughout the 200 miles.

We came across teams of extremely high caliber athletes and they were shocked at how badly they were performing because of the weather.  I suspect that a large percentage of teams were falling behind that the Ragnar race staff allowed "leap frogging" on the last leg in order to get everyone in on time.  With "leap frogging" you essentially have two runners running their leg at the same time.  All runners run their assigned distances.

If anyone is doing this kind of race and would like to ask specific questions, feel free to.  Learned a lot along the way.

Oh I'm so glad you had fun! I did not actually go out and volunteer ... I have no excuse just didn't do it. I heard the night runs were brutal and a little freaky depending on where you were.

Did you have a great time in Key West?  Next year I'm definitely doing it. Of course, I said that this year and didn't do it so we'll see.

Happy Tuesday which in my house is Trainer Tuesday morning. I did not want to fink out on my morning workout so I diligently set up my stuff yesterday - coffee programed to brew etc. That is the one major advantage I think of the trainer workout is that I have my coffee on the table next to me while I sweat it out.

I'm in the process of upgrading an older iMac this week so that I can try trainerroad.com on my trainer set up. Do you guys currently have/use trainers? How do you structure your mid-week cycling workouts?
