We want ALL the details. Tell us about your bike. What kind of bike do you ride? What have you done to fine tune it into a racing machine? Bike Porn is appreciated! Ok, I'll go I'm running my 2nd race in my 50K Dances With Dirt series in Gnaw Bone, IN. It's a hilly course, and honestly I'm a LOT intimidated. No time goal, just finish. I'll be working all day Friday, then driving 4 hours to a campground near the race, picking up my packet and then crawling into my tent for the night. Going to be alone at this race, so I'll be counting on the volunteers even more than usually for encouragement and support. And, I'll be thinking about all of you too. Since I'll be camping, I really need to think through my pre-race & post-race needs and make a packing list. Don't want to forget anything vital. Wow Jayne....you got this one, the good news is that you get to go down those hills too. Dont worry you are not alone we are there in spirit....every time the wind blows feel the energy hopefully the wind is blowing up the hills... every little boost of energy is going to help. I wish I had known you were racing so far I would have come out and given a foot massage at every aid station Well, I had 4,750 ft of FUN yesterday. What an awesome race. The course was super challenging, but SO BEAUTIFUL that the miles just ticked away....all 31 of them in only 8 hours and 7 minutes. I'm not sure how to describe it. The weather was superb for the race, cool and cloudy. If a single-track hilly trail run wasn't challenging enough, the race directors ramped it up by taking us off the trail bushwhacking many times....straight up the hills, straight down the hills, across creeks over and over again, straight up the river for a bit, along miles of muddy horse trails (ewe), and even down a slippery ski slope. I felt good through the entire race and had enough in the tank to pick it up in the last few miles. Oh, and I got to meet David Goggins post-race. He's done Badwater (135 miles in Death Valley), and a bunch of other ultra running, he holds the Guinness Book of World Records for pullups, he's super nice and humble, and oh so hot! And there was BEER from Backwoods Brewery. Fatty, you still here? Bruce, the reason I quoted your post was to give you a heads up. The next 50k is on July 18th. Mark your calendar...I'll be looking for you at the aid stations
With my friends, Mark (50 miles), his wife Liz (1/2 Marathon) and your's truly. Greatest finishers medal ever, a bone to gnaw on! P.S. I look really short
Totally awesome Jayne!!!!!! Congrats on a great race. You are a bad a$s! |

Jayne - Bada$$ mo'fo. That is what you are! Congrats on the race.
It was definitely the deep dish wheels that did me in. They are 53mm and given the sidewind, too much for me to maintain, at least as a newbie to fancy wheels. Bike is sporting two gashes, but only cosmetic. The rest of it was repaired yesterday. Off to the doctor later today to get the noggin checked out. BP won't let me get started again without it. Pretty sure it's overkill. PS. Your swimming will come back. But a pool swim? really? |

At the most a very minor concussion. My behind the eye pressure was perfect so no worries there. Severe trauma to the shoulder girdle and greater trochanter. Darn shoulder hurts the most. I had a massage tonight thinking it might help and all I wanted to do was cry.....pain! I have been relegated to the road bike for a week. Absoultely doesn't want me to fall on that hip again or i could have some bigger issues. I guess he knows what kind of rider I am....oh well, tomorrow is a new day! |

Expert 847 Brevard, North Carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - OPEN Name: Jayne 2012 Races: Did my first 1/2 marathon in March, an "accidental" 30 mile ultra in April and another trail 1/2 marathon two weeks later. A few sprint triathlons and an oly. I finished the year with a 50k trail ulta. 2013 Races: I did a nighttime trail 1/2 marathon in January, a 50k in Florida in March, and another 50k this past weekend. I had my first DNF in April (was supposed to do 50 miles). I have a few more 50Ks on the schedule for the year, and I'm not sure what's going to happen with triathlon for now. My training has been suffering lately. What do I bring to the mentor group?: I love to joke around and have fun. Don't want to take life (or myself) too seriously. I bring a lot of questions. Some of them are occasionally on topic Welcome back to those of you who have been around before, and to the newbies, "WELCOME TO THE CRAZY TRAIN" |

Master 1841 Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - OPEN Just a quick check-in. I did the HM on Sunday in 1:45:38 according to my garmin. That is about 30 seconds slower than last year. I struggled to get into a consistent pace for about the first 7-8km because of the crowd. After that I cranked it up a little and hung on. I was pretty sore yesterday (Monday) and a little better today. All in all, it was a good training race. Jayne: you're awesome!! Suzy: big bummer, but glad to hear that you are not sidelined. I think you are going to have to play musical wheels depending on the course and weather. I don't use my front race wheel or rear wheel cover for training because of the crosswinds and truck wind blasts. Best case, get some significant practice runs on a known course without the wind before you try to play in the wind again. |

New user 36 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - OPEN copa2251 - 2013-05-12 11:30 PM JillB - 2013-05-12 10:00 AM I have a little more time to introduce myself now. I'm 38, married with two children. Aidan is 10 and Abby is 8. I started running in 2006 and have done 4 marathons, almost 20 half marathons, and several 5Ks and 10Ks. A few of you know my husband, Chet, who caught the triathlon bug several years ago and worked his way up to doing 2 Ironmans (Ironmen?). He's been trying to get me to give triathlons a shot for awhile now, but I've always been afraid of the bike and especially the swim. I finally bit the bullet and signed up for the Irongirl sprint at the end of October. I'm a teacher, so I have the summer off to hopefully get the bike and the swim figured out.
I don't really have any races coming up until the fall. I'm planning on doing the Napa and Las Vegas Ragnars, and hopefully find a few more half marathons in there somewhere.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I couldn't be any more inexperienced, so I look forward to learning from all of you! Hi Jill, good to have you in the group, I feel a bit like a stalker because I've seen all these pics of your holidays and your lovely puppy on FB! I was in Chet's MG in my first triathlon season and so he gave me lots of advice for my first sprint and Oly. Ask lots of questions, there's a lot of experienced people on here (not me...!)
I feel the same about some of you! I've been hearing about your guys for awhile now. It's nice to finally "meet" everyone. |

I understand that you have lost motivation, and that is tough to overcome. The nice thing is you have a couple options....
Option A: Pick your FAVORITE WORKOUT and go do it, enjoy it.... Remember why it is you have chosen the healthy path, and embrace what you have become. Option B: Go pick your least favorite workout and ABSOLUTELY CRUSH IT! Prove to yourself that you have the mental capacity to succeed through your half ironman.... Option C: Continue to feel the lack of motivation, and suffer for the next 5 weeks until after you either decide to "get through" Raleigh, or be mad that you didn't even race (HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS!!!) |

I have had some similar motivation issues (for the past 6 months!) but today, picked option A for my swim and really enjoyed it! First 2000+yd swim since November and I finished it without sinking to the bottom of the pool. I really have to remember that kind of like running, the first 10-15 minutes always kind of sucks, so I have to keep going! Plenty of time with 5-6 weeks! Get after it!tricrazy - 2013-05-14 6:48 AM Ugh, I have lost ALL motivation. I simply couldn't care and I cannot get myself out the door. How do I overcome this? Let me approach it from a different POV, why have you lost ALL motivation? is it because you feel as if you've bit off more than you can chew? if so, is there a super sprint, sprint or even a 5K you could squeeze in over the next couple of weeks so the HIM doesn't seem so HUGE? I know if my motivation suffers it is usually because I feel overwhelmed by the enormity of what i am trying to achieve. I might be totally off base so educate me/us!
