I signed up for IM Louisville a few weeks ago and couldn't be more excited! First full IM distance after getting hooked on triathlon last year by doing a few, including the Muncie 70.3. Anyways, I saw on Facebook today that there are less than 100 spots open for the race. Anyone still on the fence better decide soon! These are the last few minutes of the 11th hour. Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread Has this race ever sold before? Kind of funny that I have had my eye on doing this race for a few years and decided this year to do it just so that I didn't have to plop down the $$$ one year in advance - so I the year I finally decide to do it they push it back (very happy about that) and I end up registering more than a year in advance because I figured it would sell out haha. Did anyone else register more than 12 months in advance and have to pay the one day USAT membership? I had renewed my annual yet it would still expire before the race so they forced me to buy it. I looked and I would have had to renew my USAT again and pay the annual fee to extend it 1 month. I am sure I missed something but it was kind of annoying. |

Elite 3683 Whispering Pines, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread if you submit proof you bought the one day license to USAT, they'll deduct it from the next year's license. That's what I did. Just send an inquiry to their "Contact Us" link and they'll give you instructions. I agree, though, it's annoying. |

Feb. 01 started my training for this season. Races are as follows: IM Coeur d'Alene June 28 Ride to Conquer Cancer Aug. 8-9 Challenge Penticton, BC Half IM Distance Aug. 29 IM Louisville Oct. 11
Will fit in a couple of sprints/olympics but really just training days with free nutrition. |

I have a marathon at the end of April so I've been running almost exclusively for a while, with the occasional swim here and there. March 16 I will forget the marathon specific training and transition to IM base training. It has been bitter cold and snowy here in Ohio so far this year, making outdoor training very challenging. I'm anxious for the weather to turn so i can get the bike out again. |

Between not being able to train outside and the negative effect on my motivation, I am definitely ready for some warmer (I'll take 40's) training weather! |

39 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread Has anyone done this race before, I have two swim questions. 1. Is the swim current aided? Looks like the first portion the swim is protected by the island, while after the turn the swim could be current aided. If it is current aided, how much time do you expect to deduct from your "normal" swim time? 2. With the rolling start, what time do I need to get to the start line to be in one of the early waves? My last full took 16 hours, so I need to make sure I maximize the amount of time I have on the course. While I hope to do better than 16 hours this time, I also want to be realistic about my ability. |

While I hope to do better than 16 hours this time, I also want to be realistic about my ability. 1. "They" say it is aided a little bit after the turnaround, but I wouldn't count on it. My swim time was about a minute faster at IMLOU than a previous IM, but I never noticed a current like I have in other rivers (for example at Vineman, it was very obvious - at LOU, not so much). 2. It's a time trial start, and first come first served, there are no "early waves." The line will likely start forming at 3 or 4 a.m. (keep in mind transition doesn't open until 4:45 a.m. and the athlete guide says the line won't start forming until 5 a.m., but I've heard otherwise), but it only takes ~30 minutes for everyone to get in the water. If you're worried about time, you'll want to consider lining up pretty early, but if you have anything to do in transition in the morning you'll likely end up in the middle of the line after taking care of that and walking the 0.75 mile to the river. |

Regular 847 Akron | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread My second mile was twice as fast as the first one in 2013. The current was tough going up stream, but awesome going down stream. A friend said he felt like he wasn't going anywhere last year as well when he first got in. When you go to the meeting two days before they will tell you how early you can line up. If you are worried about making the cut off, get in line first, take a chair or something to sit in or lay down on. FYI- Nobody can reserve a spot in line for you either |

Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread The first portion of the swim (~0.75 miles) is definitely a little protected, given where the channel lies on the river. When I did it in 2013, there was some current noticeable heading upstream. It was very evident the day prior at the practice swim. I got to the start line around 5:30am, and there was a significant line. In spite of thise, I was in the river before 7:20am. I go into more detail in my race report. |

GRRR Just the lazy bug here - I feel like I gave myself a little too much permission to enjoy the off season and now my training plan is set to start next week! Between the holidays, a Chicago trip, multiple work trips, a ski trip, a trip to the NCAA basketball games... I haven't maintained like I probably should have this winter. But dang I have had a lot of fun Hope you get to feeling better - I was out over the holidays with a terrible bug. It sucks big time! Sounds like you are on the mend though! |

Don't wan't to have running sidelined anytime soon :/ |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville 2015 : Official Thread I have had two head colds within 2 months of each other that are driving me crazy. I am sure it is having a little effect on me but nothing major. I am also fairly confident that my lack of energy has more to do with the fact that I took the entire winter off from working out and then I jumped right into my Fink 30 week plan. |
