She told me I would probably be ok but I should go in to urgent care. So I did. Very embarrassing. I ran a 5k on saturday....brrr. Air burned my lungs. But it was fun. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Embrace winter, I'll pass. I actually love running when it snows but it is so bad here. We finally got plowed out this morning but there is no place around here that is remotely safe to run. We have had white outs and the police are still telling everyone not to go out unless you have to. Finally this afternoon the winds are dying down so it is not so bad but I can't wait for 65 and sunny. I read these other peoples posts from down south or west coast complaining about a ride being "chilly" and 57 and want to puke. |

It is hilarious you can drive 3 miles from my house and they have only six inches of snow we got around 18 in the last week and drive 20 miles and they barely have 2 or 3. Unfortanuate luck I guess |

New user 7 | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Just now getting back from my vacation and reading all the posts. I actually got to run outdoors (on the beach!) while I was in sunny Florida. It's been hard to come back to arctic temps, that's for sure. Jim, I'd love to embrace winter but around here, we only get the dastardly cold, none of the snow. The sides of my nostrils freeze together every time I inhale! Shermbelle, that swim yardage IS impressive. Seeing that is helping me stay motivated for the pool. I just found a swim coach and have some sessions lined up next week. I know my technique really needs some attention. I've been holding back on distance until then because I don't want to reinforce my bad habits further. That water poisoning incident sounds wild. I'm glad you shared that. I had no idea it was that easy to OD. Well, between the health scare and the vacation, I've been a bit off of my regime. I'm glad to be back on track this week. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Oh yeah and I plan on doing Steelhead also. There is smack talk going on in a discussion on the Iron Distance forum between Steelhead and Racine HIM because they are both the same day. So if you plan on doing it, jump in there and let them know you are planning on it. They are not totally sure how to score it yet but it should be a landslide for Steelhead, Right Jim |

Very dicouraging- I really suck at swimming. Do you guys really do everything scheduled? Seriously with a full time job and three kids I am thinking this may not last very long. I mean I would love to do evry work out- but its just not reality- unfortunately. GuessIm just wondering how closely evryone follows their plan? I have actually never even tried to follow a plan before.... just did it MY way Tammy |

I have actually never even tried to follow a plan before.... just did it MY way Tammy I've been stuck in meetings in Denver this week, so haven't been keeping in contact with you guys. Tammy, I actually followed my IM WI plan almost to the letter last year. However, my swim workouts were geared more to technique work versus speedwork. I did the same amount of swimming time the plan called for but I did different workouts than what was called for. The reason I like a pre-packaged plan is that I didn't have to do any thinking as far as developing a plan and I put it on auto-pilot and followed it very closely. Whether you have the time to fit the plan into your life is something you need to consider before you take on the challenge. The bottom line is, the world is not going to end if you don't follow the plan to the letter. It is a general guideline. If you don't follow it closely, don't look back after the race is over and blame it on the plan. If you don't do the work, don't go into the race with unrealistic expectations. After all, its supposed to be FUN. |

I have run 17 marathons and yet to follow a plan and it shows. Never had the results I was looking for. THIS time though I am to the letter ( or exceeding the letter with caution) and have a personal trainer-coach and a pretty good group of people helping me along the way. The sad thing is I did all those marathons without a child and wondered how I would fit in workouts. Now I am up by 4:00 AM a lot and other nights training til 1:00AM so I guess I am making priority numbero as close to uno as possible. Now three kids, that would be tough but I have seen and know people who can make it work. I think the key is organization because as you already know you don't have much time to spare. Best of luck and we are all pulling for you especially seeing we will be dropping the hammer on the Racine team !!! |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL Hey Jim if I can pick your brain again about the Infinit. Do you use just the during training mix or the pre or post mixes and do you use the recommended version or tweak it for yourself? I am thinking of ordering some and try it out. Redman has Gatorade Endurance and Clif shots. I like the taste of GE but few calories and no protein and have yet to try Clif Shots but never have had an issue with gels. Any info would be great!! |

Redman has Gatorade Endurance and Clif shots. I like the taste of GE but few calories and no protein and have yet to try Clif Shots but never have had an issue with gels. Any info would be great!! Sorry for not seeing this question until now. I just use the ironman formula and mix as the instructions say - taste is very mild and easy on the stomach. I have never tried the pre and post mixes and don't plan on it. I share your concern about GE with low calories and that's why I switch between GE and Infinit during an IM. As I mentioned earlier, I may experiment this summer with developing a super-concentrate of Infinit that I can dilute with water at bike aid stations. This will allow me to use Infinit for a longer portion of the bike leg without having to carry a lot of bottles. Hope this helps. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Birkierunner's Group - FULL How I spent my weekend (bib 2146) ......25k race on Saturday and a 30k on Sunday. 50k coming up this weekend and then another week until the American Birkebeiner 50k. First picture is the mass start. In the second pic, the woman in back of me with the red bib is one of the top amateur female skiers in the U.S. She drafted behind me for a good portion of the race, then ended up taking a faster train of skiers in the last 5k and left me in the dust. I felt so used I ended up placing 30th out of 448 skiers, probably could have done better if I hadn't raced the day before - just wanted to get 2 hard workouts back to back since I didn't get to ski while I was on travel.
