I need to vent a little.  A little background first...I just retired early from my Local PD (early 10 years of service) to go the the Sheriff's Office.  I was on our old version of Swat which is nothing like the team here at the S.O.  I know all the guys and though I already planned on trying out was forced to try out before I am technically eligable.  So I have been training to meet their more stringient (sp?) standards.

I have been doing fine with most of it due to my tri background.  Well it finally hit me yesterday that there is a 100 yard rescue carry of the teams heviest member to simulate an injured team member recovery.   Sounds like no big deal untill you meet the teams heviest member.

For goodness sakes with all the strict guidlines and freaking near impossibility to make the team (about 50 to 75 try out every year about 20 pass the tests and they accept maybe 5 or so) there is no way a really heavy guy could make the team...RIGHT??

Imagine my delight when I put two and two together yesterday when I met a particular member of the team.  He is a great guy that happens to be 6'7 and 320 #'s of muscle.  Ok not too bad then he laughs and tells me that I will be doing it in full gear ok there is and extra 50 pounds added to me and he will be in his full gear...add another 60 pounds to him.  Ok I am not the smallest guy but I am definitely no strength champion either.  So all in all I have to drag, cary, slide, waddle, cry, push, shove, or by some other means transport his big a$$ 100 yards.  (((((CRAP)))))).  It is ok though he will only weigh about 380 plus the weight of my gear...This will be a piece of cake right?

We shall see in about two hours when we have training.... Sorry for the long post.

YOU CAN DOOOOOOO IT! fingers and toes crossed for you!

I tried to swim this afternoon.  I really did.  The pool was PACKED.  I go to the Navy base pool and I think they must have had some training going on.  So, I left.  Bryan and I went on a nice long walk though so I am peachy for the day.  I will try to swim again tonight and bike tonight too.

ebshot - 2009-03-12 7:04 AM Holy crazy day people!  Started off running late and haven't been able to catch up.  I didn't get my peach yesterday but will be off to the pool as soon as I drop off Liam at school.  I have a 1:15 run today but my heels still are all yucky so I shall bike instead.  Good times.  Hope everyone has a peachy day!

How did it go at the Doc with your hubby (I haven't read your blog yet)?

And speaking of heels, I tried your hubby's "use the top lace hole" trick and it felt a heck of a lot better yesterday.  I'm not sure if it was a fluke, I had the perfect pair of socks, or what but hey I'm willing to try anything to get my $$s worth out of these dang shoes!!

Glad the lace trick worked for you.  I am still waiting to see if it will work for me.  I am still trying to figure out what to wear for my 5k on Saturday.  Wear the PI's and maybe suffer or try the Zoots for the first time.  What say you taser roasted peeps?

I do the top hole thing on all of my shoes.  That's the only way my shoes ever fit right and the heels don't slide too much.

Can you go for a short run in the zoots first?  If not, I'd almost have to go with them (or back to your olds ones )  It can't be any worse then cutting the crap out of your heels, right?!

That's great for you that Bryan didn't get cleared but I'm sure he is antsy as all get out!?

GOod morning peeps.  Just wanted to chek in and let everyone know that I conquered the Beast yesterday.  That is what I nicknamed him and he did not seam to mind.  I didn't get out of training until after 10 last night due to nighttime and low light qualifications.

I watched a good portion of the guys go before me and decided that rather than drag him by his rescue strap on the top of his vest that it would be easier to put my chest against his back and hold him under the arms and pick him mostly off the ground so there was less friction of him draggin.  Once I got my momentum going there was no stopping me until I made it.  Then I fell on my back and he landed on top of me.

Smart move!!!  I bet you're glad that's over with... and hope that you never have to do that in a real scenario
Hopefully, the fact that you did it different than everyone else will help push you to the front of the acceptance line.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INSPIRES!  i opened my training log to find a bunch of sweet, encouraging, supportive, kick a$$ well-wishes for my race tomorrow.

YOU PEEPS ARE AWESOME.  can i hang out w you even after the march challenge?  huh, huh, can i?  can i?  pweeease?

its funny.  my race.  its only a 5K, no big deal compared to....come on really...

im excited

AND

NERVOUS as all get out.

it like im running my very first race (again)

im sure this has a lot to do with the fact that this will be my first race since my injury.

do i still have it in me?  we shall see....

that aside, HOLY CRAPOLA.  my spin last night.  SUPER SILLY CRAZY HARD!!  hill repeat after hill repeat after hill repeat after hill repeat.

my spin instructor is an endurance athlete, so ive come to expect her classes to be hard.  but OH CRAP.

thing is, though it was TOUGH, i made it through w flying colors.  and the cute boys are dropping like flies, sitting there huffing and puffing their way through the class.

HA-HA [not that i laughed out loud at them or anything like that, in fact i told they looked great (is that a lie?) and that they did a good job, striking up a conversation w them.

i want my XTRA POINTS!

btw whats a CUTE BOY in a SPIN CLASS called?  POOL PIGLET in the pool?  SPIN STUD in spinning?  i dont know, has too much of a mid aged man sound to it, the word stud....

needs some work.

well, enough of this silliness, im off to spend my rest day running errands, doing laundry and cleaning house.

sound like a REST day to you??

HAPPY DAY!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Except for the final landing. That sounds painful....)
