Not sure if anyone has seen this which just came across from ST's Twitter feed. Looks like Gatorade is being replaced by Powerbar PERFORM for some Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races this year.

PennState - 2010-05-27 1:04 PM I'm going to sound like a broken record Dylan, but just be really smart with that groin. Back off again if needed. We are all going to support you through this!

Thanks fred..and everyone else. I guess i am just a little confused by what the doctors are telling me.
Here are the responses from the 4 doctors:
1: (Last monday). Take 7-10 days off then build back up (I took 7 days off)
2: (Tuesday). Get back at it...you look good...some pain is fine. Maybe reduce volume by 15%
3: (Monday). Get back at it...go for the 80...some pain is ok. If you get a lot of pain...bail on the rest of the ride.
4: (Last tuesday). go for 80..if its hurts a lot then stop. Some pain is ok.

Now i trust doctor 2 and 3 the most. They are actually sports doctors. Doctor 3 is a triathlete himself and has been helping me for over 1.5 years. Doctor 2 is a ART Chiro/soft tissue...former athlete that i have been seeing for 6 months.  Doctors 1 and 4 are general family doctors...havent seen them much (1-3 times). Go to them if i get sick.

Sorry for the rant..i am just pretty confused and have a lot of different voices telling me a lot of different things

Slightly confused by the days there.  To put them in order you went to #1, next day to #4, 6 days later #3, then #2 the next day?  Is that correct?

If it is... then I think erring on the side of caution with taking the 7 days off was the right thing. If you then went to two other Dr's after those 7 days and they both basically said similar things.  "Maybe reduce volume by 15%" sounds like a fairly safe play as well, although I'd likely take that more as meaning "reduce your training load by 15%" instead of specifically volume.  Intensity factors into your training load, and although you could potentially decrease your volume by 15%, you might be tempted to then increase your intensity on a few rides and have a negative reaction to it.  Based on #2 and #3 (if they were the really just a couple days ago like I'm assuming) I'd personally go for the 80 and back off my intensity on the ride a tad more than I think I should, take a few more breaks than normal during the ride, etc.  Just to be on the safe side.

If my assumption was wrong... I might have a different opinion though.  But my opinon is that erring on the more cautious side is better than the alternative no matter what when it deals with injuries.  I'd rather give up a few weeks of training and go into maintenance mode instead of pushing myself to the point I need to take a few weeks off completely and losing fitness because of it.

At IM events, Gatorade has sponsored pre-race swim the course times where you could drop off your towel, dry clothes, etc. while you swam the course.  Usually got a give away of some sort as well.

I had not seen this until now, thanks for posting!  I'll have to see if I can find some of that, I prefer to live off the course if I can, but need to spend some time training with it to see how it works!!

Thanks for the post!

actually due to litigation, they have stopped these anyways. Yes people sued gatorade for swim injuries/incidents in the days before the event.

Ah of course, because it's Gatorade's fault they slipped walking down to the water.

Night off tonight, had steak and lobster for dinner, blew the diet a little bit but lobster is my favorite food!

Can't get a good read on my achilles injury, it aches for about 10 seconds once a day, maybe a slight twitch during a ride but other than that its fine.  There's not enough pain to tell me that I shouldn't run next week, yet there's still some very minor pain indicating I may have to rest it.

So I'm not sure if I should just rest it (no bike or run) or start running next week.  There's been no obvious moment that is indicating it is fine or hurt.

I've reserved the fact that I may have to swim for the next 8 weeks if it is to be rested; not looking forward to it but in the end it will probably benefit me just as much as a 3 sport schedule (since I'm a terrible swimmer).

Did another 4 miles tonight but not as fast as Tuesday. I was fine with the time tonight as I increase my distance. Next month I would like to go to 5 miles and continue to work on my time. Thankfully the hundred degree weather hasn't hit yet so it's still bearable to run after 8pm.

Hope everyone else had a great day. Nice 80 mile ride today Fred.

Achilles issues is how I wound up a triathlete and a member of BT! I was a new runner and suffering through some achilles issues so I bought a bike to ride to avoid running every day.  Some how through internet searches for bike groups or maybe triathlons I wound up here!

I agree with Fred, my achilles issues never are totally gone, just need to manage it.

I'll train through it; which is good since I won't have to waste the summer in the pool!
