you guys are awesome,  thanks.

How about Trevor and Rob?

Excuse me !!!!!  These came from the Eastern seaboard USA. NC to be a little more precise. Their not very tall so how about minnow and twin.

I'd say I've got your back on this one Trevor but that would just lead to some other comments about the cake.

Gee, I've always longed to be a blonde!  Can I ask what the heck they're doing before I agree?

So, once again, pacific standard time leaves me not only behind in the thread, but behind on top of a cake!!!!

Happy Birthday, JOHN, my favorite Instigator.  LOVE YOU, WOR TEEP!!!

SoccerGK - 2011-01-14 12:54 PM I'm still soooo sick!  Ugh!  I took medicine last night because I was feeling so bad, so I passed out until I woke up at like 3am to have a 30 minute coughing fit.  I was so exhausted that I slept through the alarm and ended up sleeping until 5:45(!), which is unheard of in our house!  So I had to bail on the bike ride so that I could make my bus to work on time.  I WILL get it in tonight when I get home, if that time ever comes.  I feel like I've already been at work for 10 hours, and it's only been 3.  *whine whine whine*

Doug - Quick question for ya.  Did you take a course on remedies in law school?  And if you did, was it helpful?  I'm torn between taking Remedies or a current issues course from a former US Senator this semester.  Neither really apply to anything I want to do, but they're the only two classes that fit into my schedule!

I did not take a course on remedies. Since neither relates to what you want to do, take the one that seems like it will be the most interesting.

I commiserate with the coughing. Me too. Up every 2 hours. Once was beacuse the batetery in the stupid smoke died and the unit kept beeping at me! D'oh! I am supposed to swim 2600 yds. today, but I cannot exhale without a terrible rumble in my lungs. Think I have to skip it. Yesterday's 2200 was hard enough trying to breathe.

The good news is my PT said that I am improving and only need to come every other week now!

I would second Doug's advice about taking the course that appeals to you more.  I got far more out of practical seminars and networking opportunities in law school than any class on a particular area of the law.  Do you see any potential networking benefit in getting to know the former senator?  Just my unsolicited 2 cents worth ...

See, this is where the big dilemma is.  Neither one really interests me, but since the former Senator is teaching one, I figured he might be a good person to know and/or it may be an easier class.  I really have no idea, and I need to decide today!  Yikes!

Are we talking Feingold?  This might get me in trouble, but I would rather take a class on garbage collection procedures than listen to that drone for an entire semester.

Hahaha, point taken.  Though Remedies sounds pretty awful, also.  But, the point is moot now because I just found out that Feingold's course is closed!

So unless I get in another course off the waitlist, Remedies it is... oh this should be a great semester!

mighty mom - 2011-01-14 7:52 AM Happy Birthday John!

I hope it's a good one for you.

thanks  christina!!  home again.  looks like the schools are gonna cancel winter break to make up for this.  since we had no plans, this is a great idea.

any GI issues on the two runs since sunday?  i think of few of us might be able to help out there.

I love the idea of canceling winter break to make up for lost school days.  I'm sure there will be a ton of complaints though.

Luckily no more GI issues.  Sorry for the TMI but I think I had a mild stomach bug.  I had issues for days and not all running related.  That in combo with forgetting to take some pepto pre long run and I was doomed.  So thankful my run brought me by an Inn.

What do others do to ward off the trots?  I've trained my body pretty well but I also try take Pepto pre long run just in case.

Glad your tummy is feeling better, Christina!

I've had this problem, too, and it seems to depend upon several factors, one of which is where I happen to be in my monthly cycle.  I have to really pay attention to what I eat the day before or even a few days before a long run or races for that matter.  I try not to eat too much fiber which is hard because I love salads and veggies.

For example, I have a long run tomorrow, so for lunch today (as I type) I am eating a grilled chicken breast, small serving of green beans and a small amount of brown rice.  Tonite, I will probably have chicken again and maybe a small serving of whole wheat pasta and more green beans.  I also stay away from dairy especially cheese as much as possible the day before.

Also, Suzy helped me alot with pre run prep.  I will get up at 4am (yes, 4am!) to eat my toast and pb with hot tea, 8 oz of water and then lie back in bed for about 90 minutes or until nature calls.  Then head off for my run fueled but without any additional fluid or food entering my system.  It has helped sooooo much, I used to have to use the porta potty or bush about 10 minutes into every long run because I was not giving myself enough time to digest and eliminate.

Anyhow, good luck on this weekend's run!

Oh, Dino!  You guys all know that I am not shy when it comes to talking about my myriad of "experiences"...million dollar homes along Diamond Head ring any bells????  I just want to share my experiences to hopefully help others in this wonderful MG avoid similar "issues".   And we are crazy!  Love feeling like the crazy person coming home from my long run when my neighbors are coming out in their robes to pick up the newspaper!

Okay, maybe tomorrow it will be 4:30 am, I just have to get to work by 10, so I should be good to leave at 6am for the run.    Speaking of early morning workouts, anyone heard from Barry lately?

Kim, I am glad I'm not the only one who has problems with long runs and the "bathroom".  Once I am up, I have to get moving...I am not sure if I could lie back down after eating breakfast. And thank you for sharing, as I have read that recommendation before and maybe I will have to try it.

I still managed to get my ride in tonight!  Feeling a tad better, but we'll see how the run goes tomorrow.

Want to know how awesome Ryan and I are?  It's Friday night.  We washed our cars, tried on our new wetsuits(!), I worked out, and now we're eating pizza, watching tv, and will be going to bed shortly.  We are the coolest 23- and 24-year-olds ever!

I also want to get in a spin tomorrow.  Just found out we're going to Fort Lauderdale for spring break, so more weight loss would be nice!

Hmmm... good thing I don't want kids, I don't think I could handle more craziness than this!  Cool

My new wetsuit fits though!!!  Thank you BT Survey!  We both got Xterra Vortex wetsuits, they're awesome, and it only cost us $300 for both!  I'm a cold water sissy, so I'm very excited!

Haha, thanks John!  Yes, those are dirty socks with my house slippers! Surprised   I had to take them off to put the wetsuit on, sorry!  And it's a rental apartment, so we don't have much say in colors/carpet/doors/etc.  I can't tell if there's a draft though because that door just goes to a hallway, but no light comes in through it, so I don't mind!  Funny how you found ALL THAT in that one picture because I honestly was thinking that would be the best place to take it.  You ARE quite the antagonist though, aren't you?  Tongue out

I'm excited about it though.  I think 1.2 miles will be much easier in it!

mighty mom - 2011-01-14 7:52 AM Happy Birthday John!

I have had all kinds of problems with GI distress during long runs.  The best remedy I have found... for me... is to slow down.  My GI distress fires up when I'm deep into a run that started off way to fast.  I know every one is different, but if you're experimenting you could try a long slow run at a long really slow pace and if you're feeling good in the last leg you could pick up for the last 5k.

I have also heard of folks using Imodium but I haven't tried it myself so I'm not sure.

This can be a tough one to figure out.

fowlmood - 2011-01-14 12:07 AM I am in week 7 of 16 of my training plan does anyone else wake up an crabby and irritable. I have felt this since the beginning of the week and today was the worse I am trying to stay away from people so I don't bite anyone's head off. I have also noticed how exhausted I am this week next week is a recovery week I hope that helps.

How is your diet?  I find when I am extremely sluggish and in a fowl mood after a hard few weeks of building my caloric intake needs to go up.  Do you take whey protein?  Are you getting enough sleep?  I agree taking a day off will help greatly as well.  Those are just my suggestions.
