I am doing a local 5K for fun Saturday, just down the road from home.

Is anyone else racing this weekend?  I don't remember seeing anyone having a race posted, but I will look again!

Still waiting for my 10K to be rescheduled. This week would be perfect for me if they would do it but no word yet.

Ice- You are definitely ready! I am looking forward to tracking you on race day.

Sherry- Your big day is almost here! Can't wait to hear all about it. As far as your HM goes, of course you won't look stupid. You will look like a brand new triathlete who has finished her first HM Something that not many people can say they have accomplished. Good to hear Irene didn't get you too bad. My oldest kid lives in Groton, and luckily he had his power back by Monday.

Tim- As usual, Ken is absolutely right on the money. Just want to reiterate that practicing your nutrition on a long brick is very helpful, and the fatigue is normal. With your taper you will feel ready to rock and roll on race day!

My next race is The Survival of the Shawangunks on 9/11, and unfortunately they will have to modify the course due to damage from Irene. The format is weird: it goes bike-run-swim-run-swim-run-swim-run, all point to point with the swims in 3 different lakes. Right now 2 of the lakes seem inaccessible, so I have no idea what the new course will entail. Hopefully at least 2 swims. I'm a little bummed, but luckily it is close to home so there is no problem for me to do it some other year. I was really looking forward to swimming in Lake Minnewaska which I think is one of the prettiest spots in NY State:

IM is one week away.  Seven days from now I hope to be on the final loop of the run.    I had some IT syndrome developing but I got smart and listened and did some extra care...missed a bike workout, shortened a run...happening during taper so the fitness is there.  I need to be healthy.  I did extra rolling, massage, and It's repaired.  I did opne hard bike as called for yesterday, my last, 2 hours at 75% and all was well.

Bike problems resolved with a new fork.  Last two rides have been focused on form to eliminate back soreness.  Have done well.

I have one more run tomorrow, short and then it's all about packing and getting up there Thursday.

I changed out the rubber and oiled the drive train, cleaned the bike, practiced changing a flat with the race wheels.  All good.  Changed out all the batteries involved.  Will test ride really easy tomorrow to make certain everything is back together right.

Excited, confident, not cocky, not crazy.  That's all good too.

Thanks for all your help. I'll let you know when I know.  I think my bib number is 2757.

I may drop in again to calm down

Ice.

In the theatre the good wishes would be "break a leg, Scott", not sure that translates to tri's quite the same, though

Sounds like you are in the right state of mind for your big day Ice!  Looking forward to tracking you (and a couple of other friends) on race day!

Anthony, those are nice pictures and reminds me of my short time down your way this past spring!

Besides Ice, who obviously has a big race this weekend, I think there are several of us with races.

Should be a fun weekend!

Thanks,

Ice is doing Ironman Wisconsin on Sunday.  You should be able to track him by is bib number on Ironmanlive.com, although I don't think the link for Wisconsin will be there until Sunday shortly before race time.  The race should start at 7am Wisconsin time which would be 8am on the east coast or sometime Saturday afternoon for Robin Wink!

I have a race of my own Sunday morning, but I will check on him when I get home from that and post an update here.  If anyone else checks on him, post it here too!

Good luck to all racing this weekend. Hopefully I will be able to follow the finish for Iceman as I will be out of town till Sunday afternoon.

Has anyone had plantar fasciitis? I think I may have a minor case of it.  My heel has been hurting for the last week - feels like it is bruised (since standing on my feet all day in bad shoes). It especially hurts in the morning and then following a day of running.  If you have had this what did you do? I will back off the running for awhile (which sucks), ice it and keep it stretched. Just was curious if anyone else has suffered through this and the outcome!

Happy training!

When I had PF last year I spent a fair amount of time rolling my foot over a tennis ball. Seemed to help. Other than time, it was about the only thing that seemed to help.

A friend who had it was told by a Dr to put running shoes on before her feet even hit the floor getting out of bed in the morning and to spend as little time as possible in bare feet.

I have never had it but have heard that a golf ball works better and even better than that is to freeze the golf ball.  I hope it heals up for you quickly Robin!

I too have been having some pain in my heel. When I've had PF before and it was a different pain though. More like in the arch of my foot I think and so bad in the mornings and after sitting for a while that I would hobble for the first few minutes. This time my heel feels a little brusied in the back part. Not sure if it is the same thing? I"ve used a frozen water bottle to ice/roll and that seems to help some, I just don't want it to get worse!

Good luck to all racing this weekend! Good luck to you Ice! Let's hope Ironman Live is working right.

Have a ? for our group..What rear mount system do you use on your bike..I'm looking what to get for my tri bike for my HIM...I will be riding tublars so I would like to carry an extra tire..Have an aero bottle up front and one on the bike frame..This has been fine for the races I've done before but I think I need more fluids for the HIM..thanks for the input..

Good luck Ice with the IM I'm sure all your training will be paying off..can't wait to follow you this weekend...

Here is what my bike set up was for IMFL and Musselman HIM:

Bike set up

Double bottle holder on the back from X Lab, with Gorilla Cages.  You can add the straps to the X Lab frame that holds a tube or tire.  Plus they also sell a piece that attaches that holds 2 CO2 cartridges and an inflator.  I put my Infinit or Gatorade in the bottles and water in the Speedfil in the frame.

If you have trained with what they are serving on the course, you could go with your set up and just exchange bottles as the have plenty of aid stations at those races, maybe every 10 - 12 miles or so.  Then strap or tape the tire up under your seat or to your top tube.

I guess it is tough to see the rear bottle carriers in this picture.

Thanks for the advise for the Plantar Fasciitis! The ball and frozen water bottle feel pretty good.

Had an 1 hr 1/2 bike ride yesterday - was awesome except for the last mile that was uphill - that hurt! swim today.

Going to take the weekend off and go up to Denali for the first time. Hopefully the clouds will thin out so I can see the mts!!
