Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Made a big push towards 168 today. Came back home at 169.7 from my run today. Lost 7 lbs on my 8.25 miler. ??will gain alot of that back as the day goes on. ran in 7:56/mi pace. It was about 76 degrees today when I ran. It'd be nice to have that temp for race, but I'm thinking it may get hot again soon. |

Disappointing to say the least. Ended up 48/107 in a time of 2:50:31. Last year was 63, 2:53:42. Improved but not as much as i was hoping. My swim was actually just about a minute and a 1/2 slower. Funny thing is, is it felt great! Bike felt better then last year as well but only a small improvement. Could have been the wet course or just not enough hill work. I was hoping to get in the 2:45's this year...I guess it will have to be next year! I will be going down to 190 next year to do this damn thing! Will be spending the balance of the week in sunny okanagan on the beach drinking beer! Back training next week. On a posititive note, I didn't have to chug warm coors lite... Thor, you beat your time by over three minutes and moved up 15 spots in the standings. That beats warm coors in the parking lot any day. Good Job on the improvement. 2:45 next year! X2!!! Be proud of what you accomplished. While you may not have seen the improvement on the clock you were looking for - it sounds like you felt strong this year! Remember - not needing to puke for going all out or drinking warm coors is a good thing. And you were cool enough to get your son to do it with you. In my book - thats father of the year material! Kudos on the effort. Now I want to hear about the Prime Rib! Looking at some others times i see their swims are slower as well. On the bright side I gained some on people who race last year so i guess that is all good. I also recovered much quicker. Felt way better immediately after the race. Bought myself another case of Phillips Hop variety case with a special guest hop beer...Armadillo IPA, refreshing easy drinking summer beer. I can't believe how many Hopped up beers one brewery can have! Prime rib...didn't look so hot at restaurant so I went with the triple double burger...triple cheese, double bacon, double burger...Holy crap, that is one huge burger...didn't feel so good after that one...Have not done that in awhile... :-) Off for bike ride with family down to beach, will catch up later when i have time.
everyone have a good one! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 173.5 This morning. I'm shocked, as I had brother in law over for hefe's last night, then the whiskey came out, then I ate, a lot. but I'll take it. I'm down about 6.5 lbs this week from the heaviest point last week. Hoping to repeat that next week so I don't have to focus on that the week leading up to my tri. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As they say in New England - it's a pisser (which sounds like pissahh)... I'd been eating like a champ and working out harder than ever. I've been 500 calories on average per day UNDER my goal and I still haven't lost any weight in the last 3 weeks. After a run of 32 weeks of constant weight loss - I seem to have hit my first plateau. When I weighed in today at 182.2... I was not a happy man. But then I remembered something my wife and were talking about in regards to her weight loss (humor me for a moment - I'm trying to make myself feel better)... for the last 6 months - Its all be about external changes: the number on the scale, the size of the pants, the compliments from others, etc... but as I reach my weight loss goals it seems like the internal changes are more noticeable (and frankly more important)... Tomorrow, I will ride 80 miles at a 14 mph clip... I've never done that before. Despite running CC in high school - I may be as fit as I've ever been). Plus, my wife and I are happier (and she looks hot and wore a bikini for the first time ever last week). So that, for now, is what I'm gonna focus on. And don't worry - I'm not throwing in the towel on our bet either. There is beer to be won and I am determined to lose a little of my @ss to kick your @ss. Prost! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() News! My professor that just did Iron Man loaned me his Giant road bike to ride in my tri. This thing has an aero aluminum light weight frame, aero bars, computer, shimano 105 throughout, and 10 gears on the cassette to play with. He lent me his farmer john wetsuit, if I need it, also. Just got back from a spin on it and averaged 20mph for my 9 mile ride. This is quite an upgrade from the old cannondale clunker that normally get's me around. Taking said bike to shop tomorrow, hoping they can also look over the Giant as well. Edited by kevinbe 2012-07-18 11:30 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So went to the Doc yesterday. Good news: I weigh 179 pounds. I just about fell off the scale. I checked twice. I thought no way. But sure it is there. I have been noticing more definition in my legs so I must have managed to cut away a bit more fat. Crazy. Bad news: Doc wants to excise a mole from my calf, probably nothing, but means I will be off running and biking for a week starting July 31. Brutal. Not sure how this is effecting my training. I am going to hit it hard for the next 12 days...leading up to a killer 30th and 31st, hopefully. Worst part though is going to be driving to work. Brutal. |

If the worst thing that happens is that you have to drive to work - then I would say you are coming out the winner. I know it will be tough sitting next to people like me who are jamming out to Barry Manilow during rush hour - but think of all the laughs...Kill it for the rest of the month and then enjoy a week off! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All right Gentlemen - the 80 mile ride is in the books! I woke up this morning and after a breakfast of champions consisting of oatmeal and fresh strawberries, blue berries and raspberries (loving the farmers market), I hopped on the bike and headed towards my 2nd favorite brewery in Michigan. The ride was good - but marred by relying too much on protein bars (and not eating enough with the hopes of saving calories for beer and a burger). Stupid. I learned a valuable lesson - I need to eat more when I ride. I also learned that I will really need to watch my time on my long ride. Today - I average 17 mph for the first two hours and that didn't make for a fun finish. But I finished. The beer and food BTW were worth it. Shorts is a regional brewery that is worth the drive if you are ever close (plus the waitresses are smokin!). My favorite was a hefe called Beach Wheat - so light and refreshing. Since they didn't have burgers - I opted for the ham/pineapple/jalapeno pizza. Next week - another 80 with two 30 mile hill workouts... |

It should ride fine, I just rode it 13 today, felt great. Last long run today before my taper. 13.1 at 8:40/mi pace in 93 degrees. I think heat in the 90's will kill my run, but nice to know I can still get in under 2 hr. mark. Had to stop at a fountain at mile 9 and submerge head. Jumped in the river at mile 10 and floated in cool water for 10 minutes, and ran out of water in 70 oz. cammelback on mile 10.5. I got the thing filled at golf course at mile 11 and by mile 13, I was done. I walked the last .5 to my house up a hill. started feeling dizzy at the end there. Troika triathlon in 2.5 weeks. |

Great work, Kevin! Running in the heat is serious business and it must be good to know that you can get the job done no matter how hot it gets. Love the fact that you stopped to cool down at a golf course and river along the way but suprised that your butt didn't end up on a bar stool some where. One suggestion about hydration - it would help if you drank more BEFORE starting out on your run. The fact that you are getting so dehydrated as to get dizzy should concern you because it's not only unhealthy but it will seriously cut into your time. I've been working in this myself and have found that drinking 16-20 oz of h2o before heading out saves me from running dry. The problem is that it causes me to pee but I'm working on figuring out exactly how much to drink so I don't need to hit the porta potty along the way. You are gonna rock that HIM's world! Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Three things before I head to see the new Batman movie with my son.. 1) Went out for a killer hill workout today. I did a hill workout yesterday but really wanted to push myself today to gauge how far I had come. WHen I left for MI - I was only able to ride up this hill 1x and today I did it 3x. Improvement. 2) It occurred to me during my ride that in addition to training my legs for this century, what I've really been doing is reprogramming my brain. I've been a runner since HS - but have always believed that while I wasn't the fastest runner that I could at least outwork anyone. All of this hard work is really changing the way that I view myself. I'm getting stronger... and I'm starting to believe that I can do anything and do it fast (yesterday my son asked me if I could ever qualify for the olympics? Too cute) 3) On map my ride I compared the rides that I've done to my century - none of them really come close in terms of elevation gain. I'm gonna head out on Thursday for a long hill ride to try to show myself that I can take care of business. Gotta go. |

Gotta go. |

Come on up to Canada....coming home today from Radium....from my motel room, 8.5 miles up hill, elvation gain of 2050 feet, I only needed an hour to do it.... hahaha, ended up going 36km in 1:32. Can't beat the views cycling through the mountains! Thankfully no bears at top of hill despite posted warnings! Gotta go. |
