Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sunday was half marathon #3 (of 8!) for the year! I felt really good as my PF issues are mostly cleared up. Here is the race report. Celebrated with with my traditional "Racer 5" IPA. Last week I hit the pool a couple times and boy do my arms feel the 5-6 months I was not swimming. Now that I have a tri on my calendar in July I need to get back in swimming shape. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A little late to the "book report" topic I'm going to give a "web page" review! One thing I always notice when running an event with a big crowd is how many people do not "run the tangents" of curves. This this article (by DC Rainmaker) illustrates how much extra distance is added by not following the "racing line" around corners. Sometimes it's hard to cut through the crowd of runners but it can be worth it to cut down on your overall time. |

It started raining on Saturday before I got to it, and yes, you can totally clean out your gutters in the rain, but rain makes an awfully convienent excuse when you are looking for any excuse not to do it! Rewarded myself after the chore with a one hour run. Now I'm off to the hardware store to buy some gutter guards! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Cynthia, you are very right: I tend to appreciate much more those things that I want but do not buy (when I get what I need I like it, when I get what I want, I love it!) Juan |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great weather for training this weekend - yesterday 70k ride on the tri-bike (much more used to the position, and I realized it is significantly faster, not because of the aero design, I think, but because of the way you ride in it and the reduction of the body drag - I used to average 25 to 30 km/h in my road bike, and with the tri-bike is 29 to 35 km/h). Today, 17k run under a beautiful sun. Less than a month for my HIM - really wanting to be there already! Juan |

Still struggling with consistency in my training but I workout all the time and have been doing some runs at Lake Tahoe to prepare for the Reno Tahoe Odyssey, 178 miles, I will do 3 legs about 6 miles in length. Last year I got altitude or car sick and did not fair too well. Taking some conditioning courses that kick my butt during the week but I am getting strong. So basically, the same ol same ol. So good to see familiar faces and missed all of you. How are you doing Thor? Girl, you are a machine!! Show those young 'uns how it's done! |

I take a body conditioning and contouring class 2X a week at the college I work at...yes, I felt pretty ridiculous my first day with students a lot younger than my youngest daughter! I also take hot yoga on one of those day at the local yoga studio, I SWEAR these two instructors talk to each other and conspire to kill me! After 300 lunges, with weights on each leg, planks of every kind I get to yoga and we do countless repeats of warrior poses, (lunges with a cool name) and planks of every kind. I was sore for days! Best thing ever is to see the younins stop and collapse before I do....even better, when we run hills and they walk and I run...yeah grandma can kill it...well sometimes she can. Love this. |

With my wife anything above the minimum, with the exception of her bike, is a 'want'. Went with the Couer Tri shorts. Her birthday is in July so I was thinking j could do helmet then. Awesome. I can't wait to hear how she likes them. I will be getting some myself (birthday is next Wednesday) and Mother's Day is this Sunday... |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A good friend of mine from college (who's never been known to do anything beyond beer-league softball) decided to pick up running this past winter. He entered his first race local 5k yesterday and placed 6th overall with a sub-7 min/mi pace. Ugh, people with natural talent suck! My first sprint since 2014 is two weeks from yesterday, and I'm starting to get nervous. While I'm super happy with my runs lately, I'm way behind where I should be on the bike and the swim. Since we moved last summer, I'm not even sure I know where my wetsuit is. DQ, I'm going to need that trip to Jack's Abbey, maybe even before the race! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I totally fell off the face of the planet (dealing with my mom going through some rough health stuff.) It's so nice to log in and see everyone kicking butt! Mark, nice job on the half! Gretchen as always- your consistency is inspiring! Dave- Yay on the weight loss! Jenn- I hope you feel better! Adam- I hope your collar bone heals up- I had someone cross check me in water polo in college and break mine in two places- it hasn't bothered me since senior year (which means a long, long time at this point!) I hope yours heals up with no problems like mine did! That's all I can remember in one post! Keep up the good work!!! I will slowly climb back on the horse- but everything is pretty tentative for this summer. Oh well- I'm planning on swimming a bunch and having fun mountain biking. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry to hear about your mom. Adam..hahaha Baby steps with training! Sometimes life gets in the way of your training goals. Just make sure you leave some mental/physical health time for yourself. Oh not much, mowed the lawn, had a little bbq, ran a half marathon, whatever no big deal. ![]() |

Not to worry, since you've never done this one before, any time you finish will be a PR for the course. Like for me, it will be my first time doing this race and my first ever Duathlon. So no matter what we're grabbing some PRs - lol. Also - the part of the bike course in the park is newly paved and smooth as a baby's butt. Little hilly but not steep. Apparently before it was paved it was a killer with all the frost heaves. The part through Hopkinton isn't as nice but it's not terrible. BTW I hate friends like that! I have one, who Dave and I ran a HM with a little over a month ago. The good news for me was his natural speed is only good in less than 3 mile increments, so over the course of 13 I beat him by ~10 minutes ![]() |

I may be able to "casually" run 10-12 miles each weekend but it's at my steady 9:30-10:00 pace I'd been doing a lot of those 10+ milers at the 9:30+ pace thinking the speed would eventually come, and it wasn't. So I switched my program, and am now going to do speed work solely, and slowly build it into my distance running. I Have to run faster to be faster. |
