kimk - 2010-04-21 7:26 AM Morning ATeam! I am stiff this morning, my hip is really bothering me kinda worried for my tri...I really had high hopes for a good race with possible podium placement....but not looking good now. I am thinking I will cut back on everything....even do the least amount in teaching my classes(which never happens) We will see how I feel after backing off. Although I still have Yoga, and 3 water classes today. and cycle and silver sneakers tomorrow. I have been stretching and using a foam roller several times a day. Have to take my 12yr old to the DR for an EKG today, she complained of her heart hurting on Monday so we took her to her ped, they think it is just the muscle but want to make sure.

Frown  Hope your hip feels better!  I hope everything turns out ok with your daughter!

hip is still sore..daughters appt went good and will get the results this afternoon.

So how's everyone's day going today? I hope its going well.
I'm a little baffled with some things. First I don't understand the whole weight loss thing. I try to do good and watch what I eat and don't lose any weight. Then I have a busy week where I eat mostly bad food, I don't pass on the cake and ice cream deserts, I even chowed down on candy and fast food last night. I step on the scales like I do every Wednesday expecting to have some gain and I've LOST 5.6 lbs. I did have the half mary Saturday, but its only a mile more than my long runs so I wouldn't think that would have done it. Sometimes it just doesn't make any sense at all.
Second, why is it that I can have all these bad things happen over a couple of days and still come out smiling and other days something small will make my grumpy and tense? I'm thinking that I have a little extra help from above on the days when a lot of things are going bad, but why do the little things affect me so much? I am grateful for the BT forums. Reading everyone's posts do help to lighten the mood so thanks everyone.

mchally - 2010-04-21 10:27 AM I am very excited.  I may have mentioned before...My best friend bought me an awesome pannier for my birthday.  It is an Ortlieb, waterproof, top of the line, and carries my laptop in addition to other stuff.

I bought a rear rack last night from REI (after 30 minutes on the bus and an hour on the bike to get there).  I mounted it and was able to use my pannier for the first time this morning.  The bike is a bit side heavy when walking it, but once I get in the saddle it isn't an issue.  I also brought a warmer change of clothes and a winter jacket...something that I am very grateful to have today.

The rain this morning reminded me that I need to get some fenders to make this bike a decent commuter.  I prefer not to have a constant stream of water hitting me in the chest(and occasionally in my face as well).  Also...I need to waterproof my shoes.

sounds great Mel!

Paul I hear ya on the weightloss...although I have come to realize that the body sometimes needs to catch up with what you are doing...not loosing when you do good will show in 2 weeks instead, but I know for me I get upset and then pig out because it doesn't work any how! Then to gain 2 weeks later when the body catches up, try not to let the # get to you...I know easier said then done!

Paul,
You and I must own the same scale.  Actually, it's not the scale's fault... My weight can fluctuate anywhere from 3-5 lbs. PER DAY.  And it never seems to match up with the activities or food intake from the day before.  I think sometimes an unexpected weight loss can be caused by dehydration.  I weigh myself everyday, but have stopped worrying about a few lbs. here and there and just focus on the overall trend.  Here's what I do... make an excel spreadsheet with equal sized (square) cells.  Your weight is the Y-axis, the date is the X-axis. Print it out.  Every morning, weigh yourself and fill in the little box that denotes the weight and date.  It looks very much like a rollercoaster in the beginning, but then you can start to see a trend after a few weeks.  It can be quite motivating.

Just doing a super quick drive by since I am super busy at work today...  But my excel loving self LOVES this idea!

Mine would be a long line with a few little squigglies going up and down showing the occasional 1-2 lb loss/gain. Its been pretty steady for the last several months. I guess I am down from the 209 high of last year. Wow, ten pound loss over the last year and 5.6 of that was in the last week.

Well... It's official.  I signed up for my first 24 hour solo race.  Oh God, what was I thinking?

Bill, forgot to mention I got to check out some epic design bags at the Sea Otter.  A couple guys from Salsa bikes had them.  The bags are very nice quality and they had nothing but praise for Eric at Epic Designs.

Also, met a guy camping next to me that rode from San Diego to Florida.  He had some awesome stories to share about his 85 day adventure.

Way to take on the challenge! 85 days on a bike does not sound appealing to me though! But great for him!

I am fine...just a bit of a sore spot.  Thankfully I don't have a concussion.  I've had more than enough of those to last a lifetime.

Crazy coincidence. I got a message from my nephew within minutes of your first post that my nephew had bonked his head and is going to have a lump as well. It sounds like he is also going to be ok. His is right over his eye so he will get a black eye out of the ordeal. Hope yours doesn't turn out that way.

Went to the pool and tried the full sprint distance without any breaks and I didn't die! Not that 300 yards is a big deal but I'm not much of a swimmer and haven't done that distance for a while. Did a strength workout before I left so there's a couple more workouts to log and that much closer to my goals for the month.

I just ordered a couple of spinerval dvds off amazon.  I thought I could do without them...because they are a bit pricey (i did get them for about $25 each compared to $30 retail)...but after watching my 5th movie on the trainer...I decided I needed to give them a try.  I can't focus on the movie and my workout at the same time.  The only way I can do that is if I spin really easy at very low efforts.  I guess there's a time and place for that, but since I only ride 3...maybe 4 times a week...I need more intense workouts.

I'm trying out volume 13 and 14.  One is a 3 hour workout focused on endurance rides, and the other one is a TT focus...both of which are my goals.  Will let you know how they work out.
