Bill, that is surprising to say the least. However, I understand and respect your motives and I know that you're doing whatever is best for you and your family. We always say listen to your body and maybe we should add that we need to listen to your spirit. Clearly yours is telling you something. Whatever final decision you make tomorrow WILL be the right one and we Ghoulies have your back all the way. Enjoy your bike rides bud, whether they take you to Iowa or just down the road.

Have a great day everyone.  See you tomorrow!

Bill, echoing Tom, surprising news!! I am glad you are at peace with your decision. Like you said, ride because you love to ride not cause you have to!

Ghoulie Hugs and kisses for you!

disturbed275 - 2010-04-10 12:49 PM Donuts + running = BAD IDEA!

I kept all my donuts down but feel like poo right now.  I ate 10 donuts during the race, but it took me longer to eat them than the time bonuses that I gained from them.

Run time: 18:43
Finish time: ~31:00
Donut Adjusted time: ~21:00

Would've be much better off not eating a single donut.  From what I heard they were much bigger than last years

You boys think of some very funny ways to entertain yourselves.  In my winter mentor group, they had a mg competition via a *beer mile.*  Every 1/4 mile you had to drink a beer.  Penalty points for returns.  Final time was adjusted vs your PR 5k mph average pace.  Also does not sound like a good idea.

Let the tummy settle and go for a nice, easy bike.

A group of guys from my local tri club did a beer mile, too. There's actually a website and rules for it. Who knew?

Wow, Bill. Like the others, I am surprised. I find it comforting that you are changing your plans based on choice, and that you feel such peace and calmness because of it. Whatever the final decision, rest assured that you are listening to the right voice. (((hugs))

Had a good day today! I worked the last hour of a bike-a-thon, Some of the members had been on the bike the whole time! I told them to listen to their bodies but I had fresh legs! Taught a great class! Two members came up and said it was their first spin class and that it was tougher then they thought it would be but they had fun! Then I went for what should have been a 10 miler but cut it to 5. Just not in me today. I think the legs have taken a beating with the bike the last 2 days. But the sun is out and it is beautiful out! Need to find something to grill I think! Have a great day Ghoulies!

Hello Ghoulies. I just got back from a 5.6 mile run and it was quite the extravaganza. Check my log for the full details, but here are some highlights:

-VERY tight quads today. Needed a flattish course which worked out fine except the flattest route around here gives me a nice little hill to climb in the last mile. Oh well...

-The wind on the way out was RIGHT in my face. Considering I'm 6'3" that basically negated any extra downhill speed and made me feel like a sail.

-The wind on the way back was DEAD. I started overheating pretty quickly so I need to start remembering how to deal with that.

-Had you been watching me right after my turnaround you would have witnessed a flying Ghoulie. My toe caught a raised piece of sidewalk and I literally went flying. Amazingly I landed into a perfect shoulder roll, got up, and continued running without a scratch or pause. Thank you jiu jitsu!

It was my longest run in a while, which just reminds me I need to get better about consistency. This week will be tricky but I'm sure I'll think of something

Tom, you and I must be sharing the wind today. I went for a bike ride with my hubby--wanted to hit about 20 miles, but knew it would be a struggle. Ended up doing 11.6, and walking my bike up the hill we live on to get back home (not a huge hill, but a pain inthe arse on the bike). The wind was 22-ish mph steady, and gusting up to about 28. Oh, and it was a headwind on the way home. And most of the way out as well. Oh, and I did hit 30 mph on one short downhill!! (which was quickly followed by a matching uphill...but I enjoyed it while it lasted! ) That was fun!!!

Another surprised ghoulie here.  I was expecting to read a story of a bad crash last night that left you physically unable to toe the start line (thank goodness that wasn't the case).  I respect your decision and reasoning and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, whatever they may be.

EVENING GHOULIES.

welpers.  its been a weekend thats for sure.

im not sure how to describe it.  it wasnt bad, but it wasnt easy.

i guess in some respects REALITY is beginning to set in.

this will be the final week w J. being here at the house.

though on the one hand theres a DEEP sense of relief to finally be at the crossroads, i would be lying if i didnt say that theres a lot of apprehension as well.

but above all else, im very grateful that i have SUCH a great support system, and one that is growing each and every day.

i had a less than together moment at the Y.  a good friend asked me how i was doing when she saw me in the locker.  and i tried to keep it together, but all of sudden i just started heaving, sobbing.

life just 'neaks up on you sometimes.

in the midst of the moment another member came over to comfort me as well, and now i have to invitations to 'coffee anytime' from two women - one, my friend and two, a new friend - who have been there.

my friend divorced her first husband after 11 years, my new friend, after 19.

both are bright, vibrant and have gone on to recreate a WONDER-FULL LIFE for themselves.

though i dont doubt for one minute that my life will be AS EQUALLY VIBRANT AND BRIGHT, its just good to have living breathing reminders of that.

im sure this week and especially the following (the first week J will be gone) will be full of challenges, i have every reason to believe that i'll be WELL taken care of.

im certain to count on you, MY GHOULIES.

and i love you all for it.

heres to life well lived.

Fortunately for my pride, there were no witnesses. Although in hindsight I kind of wish someone could have taped it. Would have made for a great profile video.

Amy, you definitely win the suckier winds of Sunday competition with me. Mine weren't terrible (maybe 10-15) but just annoying. Headwinds on the way home on the bike are always frustrating.

Stacie - I'm very glad to hear that your support network is ever growing and that there are people at your beck and call (you are Queen after all...) who can relate to what you're going through. Be very happy that you're getting to start your new life this week - on your own terms and with enough life experience to do it smart. You're gonna do great...

Hey Dudes!

Just finished a run...now I need to go and map it...Melindy needs a Garmin...2:02...I'll let you know the total distance when I know what it was...ahaha

Then I went to the grocery store...and was just out of it...I think I stood in the cookie aisle looking for animal crackers for like 5-10min...that was a fail...somehow they didn't have any and I ended up getting some peak freans lifestyle dark choc and hint of cherry flat cookie biscuit thingys...then somehow I got my act together to continue walking around in the grocery store without zoning out...

Had about 1/2 granola bar in the run (half before)...apparently that was not enough...haha...woo hypoglycemia! Woo for draining glycogen reserves...Didn't have any of my GU brew...need to pick up a new carton of it tomorrow me thinks!

Hey Bill! In reference to TransIowa...and your post in tritalk...

I'm glad you can be happy with your decision to not do it. I will say this: I am not a church person...I would classify myself as agnostic. I grew up in a Roman Catholic family...my mom attends church, but the rest of us don't. I can't rectify alot of things the church says with my own personal beliefs and experiences with science/medicine. But, I definately believe that there has to be some reason that things happen though and that certain things are not just instinct. (I'm my view this is how we are able to have free will and everything is not chalked up to fate...sometimes I can pick a fight with myself on this one though). My example of this is me getting into medicine...I'm not saying I wouldn't have gotten in eventually...but in the whole scheme of things last year the odds were definately stacked against me (GPA wise (I had a 3.6 for being in an honors program and competitive avg was like 3.87 last yr, MCAT wise, interview, etc)...To not have a MSc. and to get in was a little mind boggling for me. Anyways, I was double waitlisted at 2 schools on May 15, found out that my Nana had stage 4 colorectal cancer on May 22 and got into medicine on May 26...I honestly think the reason I got in last year was because Nana was so sick and wasn't going to see me get into medicine unless it was then.

Anyways...story is kinda unrelated..but just my example of I can see where you are coming from...
