Veteran 112 Wollongong | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Interesting weekend. Yesterday did 1:05 on the tandem until we had a major rear tyre blowout. Tyre was dead. So this turned into an unexpected 8.4km run session. Interesting in the heat and with cycling shoes. At least they were SPD cleats. This morning the family did the Color Run in Sydney. A great time, but more colour than running, so I did not count it here - great fun though, and sometimes you just need to have some fun. This afternoon was the weekly Tri Club OWS training session. 0:40mins. Pretty happy with it.

I get them from the UK as its a lot cheaper then Australia. http://www.wiggle.com.au/k-swiss-kwicky-blade-light-shoes-2012/ They are soft on the feet for road running and all seamless so no need for socks. And with that sort of colour you feel like you are running fast.

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Trevor, Plantar fascia issues can get to be pretty chronic, make sure you are running in the right shoes. I ride (as a matter of fact this last Saturday) with an orthopedic surgeon, who happens to be a Kona qualifier and finisher, and he knows a ton about this from both sides. He was telling me that the best three things for a person that is having fascia inflammation are: 1- Strassburg sock. 2- Don't switch to Newtons, it will actually make it worse (long to explain). 3- Don't try to treat it by getting steroids shots. He explained to me that when you do, you are severely risking puncturing the fascia (kinda like a 50/50) therefore extending the injury way more. He said there's only two ways to do it: either run through it and deal with the pain or completely stop running. It takes the same time to fix regardless of which option you take, believe or not. Maybe time for you to visit your own practitioner... |

Expert 1109 Guatemala | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed ernestov - 2013-02-09 3:27 PM @Gabe, I am jealous! I heard wonderful things about Chrissie, especially that she's very down to earth and a nice girl. Hope you got to ride with her to show her who's boss! Hey E and gang, I'm very glad that despite a really bad night with fever and severe cough/congestion, I decided to HTFU to make it to the ride with Chrissie, which proved to be an incredible experience. She is totally down to earth, well rounded and a super inspirational person. I was able to spend some good quality time with her during the ride and then our post-ride lunch and talked about everything from her IM experiences and racing tips, to her book, future and even what she thought about Lance (not good). During the ride we were a group of around 40 tri-friends and we all took turns at the front talking with her. On the way back, it was a constant uphill and it was really funny to see how she was going at a constant pace with almost no effort while continuing to talk, and dropping almost everyone in the group. I will post some pics when I get them, but can only say that she is an incredible role model and we were very fortunate to have been able to enjoy her presence down here in Guatemala. The good news is that she loved our country and might come back after her boyfriend and also pro, Tom Lowe, races in Kona this year.

Mitch - I always admire you work out details - what plan are you following? The only plan I'm following is the Hanson's HM plan. The cycling I've been making up as I go along which I don't think is ideal. Same with swimming. I found a great swimming blog with workouts that I'm going to try to use as a resource (http://mastersswimworkoutsbysaramclarty.blogspot.com/). I've thought about utilizing the Jorge winter cycling plan or just the Sufferfest videos for cycling. My issue is that as I have ramped up the running mileage and increased intensity a bit I'm finding I don't have a ton left for tough cycling workouts. Trying to get into doing a bunch of sweet spot cycling intervals while hoping at same time that as my body gets used to current running levels I will find my cycling legs again. If I decide to pursue a HIM this fall I think I'm going to use a Matt Fitzgerald plan from a book I have. I'll try to incorporate that around running 6 days a week. Goal would be to go right from HIM to finishing up a marathon plan for 1 month later. |

No sign of the IT band acting up. Nearly went mad not being able to run or bike for a few days. Ive been doing alot of streching, rolling and strength training exercises to help it out. Going to try to do a 4-5k run tomorrow. Hoping it does OK. Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed dangremond - 2013-02-11 5:08 AM 30 minutes on drainer (15 WU, 10 @ 90-95% CP, 5 CD) followed by 5 miles easy on dreadmill. It was supposed to be 60' on the drainer but stayed up too late watching The Walking Dead and didn't sleep well enough to roll right out of bed when alarm sounded. Tomorrow have a tough speed workout that I'm dreading - 1.5 mile WU, 3 x 1.5 miles at 10k pace w/800M jog recoveries and 1.5 mile CD. Hoping snow is melted from track so I can do this one outside.
Hope your track is cleared for that. I would welcome that type of workout as mine have all been more of a slow workout to keep my HR around 75%. For some reason I like speed workouts alot. |

Hope your track is cleared for that. I would welcome that type of workout as mine have all been more of a slow workout to keep my HR around 75%. For some reason I like speed workouts alot. I've been relegated to the treadmill for a while now due to snow and ice. I just want to get outside. I just started getting back to speed work after months off. I enjoy it but obviously it is a lot tougher. Recognize that its the icing on the aerobic cake. |
