jdwright56 - 2008-11-04 3:12 PM Holy carp - what a day -

Did you get snatched up in a bear-tarp?

is it wrong that when i get my trap (grampa trapped, and mom got each of us a trap when he died), i want to hang it on the living room wall, open?

I'd say it's fine as long as you don't put it right behind the couch with a big pillow over the actuator so that when you lean back onto the pillow it activates the trap.

Ooh no. that sounds fun. I'm in!

x2. It's fun to mock mediocrity

...which is exactly why I'm always ragging on you.

Ouch.

Yeah...not so much "ouch", not considering the source.

I just don't like all the meanness....can't we just all have a big group hug?

Sure, we can have a "HUG"

is that what people think of me when i do presentations.......... (that is kinda funny tho)

Depends.  We made a list of things that people do that we find funny (we're making symposium bingo for next week).  They include things like:

-overusing the laser pointer
-overusing powerpoint animation
-can't read the text on slides
-reading a large block of text directly from slide
-misused affect/effect
-doesn't use common acronym (ie, says "polymerase chain reaction" instead of PCR)

uh.....thank goodness i'm not in the sciences
just an english grad here....

Well, the same principles would apply. Except maybe the laser pointer, since book nerds don't really need them . Basically, they don't know how to give a good presentation - no matter what the topic. Powerpoint presentations or even paper handouts shouldn't be too flashy and full of pictures - means you're trying to fill in where there is no substance. However, you're not supposed to write out your entire presentation on the powerpoint/handout. Simply outline the basic points and elaborate orally. Similarly, if you can't read the dang powerpoint, it means you didn't review what you were going to be talking about. The powerpoint/handout is for the audience, not you. Affect/effect - you learned that in grade school. You're a moron if you mess it up. And with regard to using common acronymns - there is generally an understanding that when you present scholarly material, the reader is most likely a colleague, and therefore wouldn't necessarily need a didactic lesson in the basics. Acronyms and terms can be used without definition - unless for some reason you have coined a new term, phrase or idea, however, most first-year grad students aren't really at that level. And it makes you sound like less of a tool as well as more knowledgeable on the subject - and it just flows better. Acronyms were made for a reason.

Have you thought of possibly trying to find a man and growing up? Or maybe for you that is just not possible. Just a thought, but maybe running is better for you.

Ghost accounts aren't allowed on BT. Marma will find out who, as soon as I report this, and you will be gone.

Just wanted to add my thoughts to today's tan...

I work with the most immature, catty b*tches EVER!!! Without going into much detail, as I am at my desk, they (there's 5 of us girls total in my group, and I am specifically referring to 3) are constantly doing sh*t between them 3 and constantly excluding me and the other one, and making everything uncomfortable here...it's so very highschool and CLIQUEY (is that a word?)!!!  Oh, I should mention too, the reason why they are so close and I am an "OUTSIDER" is because they all go down for smoke breaks together.

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!!

FYI: This is who the troll is responding to.
