Veteran 536 Long Island, NY | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! How to you track your overall time in a race? In previous years the official clock has been in several locations and very visible in the races I’ve done. The last sprint I did the clock was nowhere to be seen except at the finish line and even then it wasn’t very visible. Next race I’m strapping on my watch for an overall check. Any other ideas come to mind? |

Yes but the last race the only clock they had was at the finish line. It wasn't visible going in and out of transition. I'd like to know my split times to see where I'm at. |

Never really know the overall time but I can usually be close if I am hitting my paces and efforts as the garmin gives me the feedback. I did strap a timex timer onto my right arm once, but found it more of a distraction than a help. |

Extreme Veteran 1700 Normal, Ill. | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! I wore my Timex Ironman watch. Started the stop watch when the cannon went off and just let it run. The only time that mattered at 16:59:59. Never came close but I had a time check every step. What I did however was to ignore it except at transitions and the midway point of the marathon. Just checked to do the math to see what was left and how far I had to go. |

I think I'm going to do this for my next race and just let it run. It's only going to matter to me on the last leg of the bike and for the run. |

Expert 1023 , | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! Ice- Great race and a great race report, Ironman! I was tracking you on Ironmanlive while watching the Jets-Cowboys game, and saw you had finished right about when the Jets made their improbable comeback, so it was a great evening. Sherry- Another great race. Congratulations on becoming a triathlete and having a lot of fun while doing it! Adam- I also use a Garmin 310 in multisport mode, but I don't look at it much during a race. It's mostly to evaluate everything after. I think it's a good plan to use a watch to record just the total time. I am working on my RR, but I have been very busy at work this week. Unfortunately, there was only one swim, and I did not get to swim in Lake Minnewaska like I had hoped. The finish was still by Lake Mohonk which is also really beautiful. Here is a picture of Mohonk from near the finish line. After a half mile swim in the lake, you run a half mile the top of this cliff which is about 300 feet above the lake: Have a great weekend, everybody! |

Veteran 274 Arvada | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! scraver - 2011-09-12 12:58 PM Had my Tri yesterday! 446 out of 490 Total Time: 2:10:52 Swim: 235/490 20:56 T1: 4:07 Bike: 455/490 56:46 T2: 2:11 Run: 464/490 46:54 I kicked butt (for me) in the swim. There was a bit of a run from the beach to the transition area which counted towards the swim time. The bike ride was awesome. The hills weren't bad. The weather was glorious. We passed by some cows. Then there was the run. I think it was more of a hike than a run. It was a trail run (which I knew). So - I am pretty happy with my run time considering how wobbly my legs were getting off the bike and considering it was through the woods, over roots and sticks and mud. I am really, really, REALLY glad I chose an all-women's tri for my first. It was WAY less intimidating than it would have been. (no offense to the men here) I will try to get around to a race report... A little late but congrats on a great job!!!! Hope you mooed at the cows. I always do. |

Like Ken I use my 310xt in multisport mode and hit the lap button to change from each sport..In my setting I have an overall time that is running also, so I as it scrolls through I can see where I'am..I also have goal paces I would like to hit so I have the settings set up with avg. pace during the bike and run..Hope everyone has a great weekend.. |

Veteran 344 Georgia | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! Have a ? for our group..I rented a wetsuit for my upcoming HIM because most of the races I do are not wetsuit legal and I'm not sure what I want to buy yet. I got my wetsuit in and went for an open water swim..I feel like the suit fits snug, how much water should get into it? But wow my swim was much faster and easier...(lol) I felt some water move every now and then in the sleeve so I was wondering what to expect??Thx |

Extreme Veteran 1700 Normal, Ill. | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! Should be tight, but not restrictive. I actually get in the water and pull the collar a bit to let some water in...warms and adds insulation. I got a great second wetsuit, sleeveless, just before IM for $150, Aquasphere and I love it. Fits great, non restrictive, limber and buoyant. |

Member 522 Toronto-ish | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! How much water gets in? That's a tough one to answer. Definitely some, less than "a lot". They are supposed to allow water in. What you want to avoid are large collections (spaces) under the arms, crotch, and small of the back. I feel water move in the arms of mine from time to time but I'm confident it's fit is fine. |

Veteran 344 Georgia | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! the small of the back at the base of the zipper is where i felt the water leak in so I was just wondering what to expect..I guess I was fine because my effort was about the same and during my test swim I was 15-20sec. per 100 faster in open water. |

Regular 164 Connecticut | Subject: RE: kenj's group closed, training hard and having fun!! So - some of you may recall, weeks and weeks ago, I thought it would be a brilliant idea to register for a Half Marathon? I thought it would be "easy" to throw a little extra running into my training and *poof* go to a HM. Well, I only ever got up to 8.1 miles as the longest run in my training. All that running proved to be hard and my neighborhood is VERY hilly. So I get online Friday night to read the final info posted about my HM (which was this morning). Now, all along I knew I could do it, but I was freaking out thinking it would take me about 4 hours. In the final info, it says there is a 3 hour time limit. I freaked out. BUT... I told my self even though I didn't KNOW that I could do it, I also didn't KNOW that I COULDN'T do it. So, I did it! I finished in 3 hours and 53 seconds. I was dead last... but who cares? I f-ing DID IT!! I won't be able to walk for the week... and all the skin rubbed off my left heal... BUT I DID IT!!! |
