Regular 89 | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED russrisher - 2012-03-01 4:06 PM OK Ken, I need your advice. I'm traveling next week. Any tips on how to keep up the workouts while on the road? Do you do it first thing before you go to work? Any tips on finding paths in the new city? Do you do anything besides running while traveling? where are you traveling to? If you are downtown in a city there are usually health clubs within walking distance - maybe they would have a pool? Also you could ask on the BT state forum page for running routes. Ken's advice was good - don't have much else to add. Austin,TX- I may have to go to Zurich and Athens later this month, which would be cool, but i don't want to be away from my son and training for that long. |

If you are in Austin go to Barton Springs! they have an outdoor swimming area (dammed portion of the river with a natural hot spring) warm enough in the winter without a wetsuit and really beautiful! |

My goals were to rehab foot - still working on it, but optimistic and get under 150 - stuck at 151! so close.... I am happy with the weight though, hard to lose the pounds when you can't burn off the excess calories! March Goals: continue rehabing the foot. Get under 150 (and stay there). Build endurance on the bike 3x/week. Continue swimming 2-3x/ week and aquajog 1-2x /week. If I am super lucky maybe start walking. All things considered, not a bad month Robin!! You did what you could with your foot in a boot! |

New user 239 Walterboro | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED My February were a good bit lower than what I was hoping for but not terrible considering my work load. I feel like I got a good start on March and hopefully a little less craziness at work. I'm looking foward to kicking off my season on the 17th. The weather has been great around here the past few weeks. I just hope we don't have a cold snap just in time for the race. I hope everyone's training is going well. Running, running, running...........I'm starting to believe I'll actually be able to run a marathon!
February's totals: Run: 14h 06m 24s - 88.28 M
Oh and the local tri-event company opened a new olympic length tri at the end of July. That would fit in perfectly to my schedule. Just have to find a way to pay for it! Edited by acv 2012-03-02 11:04 AM |

Expert 1694 Illinois | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Wow, the goals that everyone is posting are so inspiring! I did not meet mine but I do think I was a little overambitious when I set them. Will try again in March. Hope everyone is all right after the terrible storms that have been sweeping the country. We had frightening thunderstorms the other night but fortunately no tornadoes. |

How far down? Floral Park, which I think is in Queens? Drove down from Albany for a dinner meeting then back to Albany. |

I wish our Y would do an indoor tri. Did a 5 mile run this morning, trying to concentrate on shorter distances and taking fewer walk breaks as opposed to slogging out a bunch of junk miles. The wind made the last mile very difficult and I did have to walk a couple of times on a hill. So ready for winter to be over. Will do some strength in a bit. My training buddy and I started "Puddles and Pancakes" on Sunday mornings - we swim and then go to iHop for pancakes. It's a nice little reward. |

I finally faced my fears and "Tested my Power!" Q. Can you help me calculate my zones? FP? What ever else I need to use this number? Bench Mark Power Test - 20 Min TT (153 Watts Average Power) (For your viewing pleasure) Edited by CarlaLThompson 2012-03-04 9:58 AM |

Expert 943 Highlands Ranch, CO | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Thanks for all the support about the car. It took five days, but I finally got a rental car and the inspector (or whatever you call him/her) declared my car a total loss on Thursday. So now while I am waiting to hear what the total loss department offers me for my car, I have to find a new one. I went to some car dealers today to just see what they had on their used car lots and to look at some shiny new cars as well . I always told myself that my next car would be an SUV (would be great for Colorado driving and more important allow me to put my bike inside without taking the wheel off) but I hadn't planned on doing that now. Thanks for the tip Vivian re. purchasing a car from a car rental place. I will look into that as well. In other news, oure early morning computrainer group did part of the IMSG course this morning. I felt much better today and really put my all into it. A good effort for sure. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Bench Mark Power Test - 20 Min TT (153 Watts Average Power) (For your viewing pleasure) Here you go, I had to guess on the 5 minute test by taking your highest 5 minute interval of 161. The protocol is supposed to be a seperate 5 minute all out on a seperate day with some rest in between.
Also, here is the link to the page here on BT that you can use to calculate it! Good first test Carla, I would agree though that something appears off.

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED The indoor tri was fun!! Good swim for me, still have some work to do but progress was definately made. The spin bike was tough since they have to set the resistance the same for everyone. I am not used to spinning in the upper 120 or 130 rpm range and that is what was required to do. The run I started at 9 mph and worked my way up untill I thought I might go off the back, finished at 10 mph. I think it was the 4th fastes run split of the day. I had a good time and would definately do it again! |

Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Had planned to do a bike ride Friday morning - it was cancelled for some reason. I have to call the Bike Shop to find out why. I was a little annoyed about it, but left and went to my school instead to finish up a little bit. I could have put in a ride, but it was very cold, and I don't have enough cold gear. :-( Had a breakthrough swim that night though! Saturday, was supposed to go cycle with a friend, she cancelled on me. I wasn't motivated at all to do anything especially with two cancellations. Sunday - I hung out with Las Vegas Tri club. Had me in the hurt cave...2270' of climbing in 20 miles! Don't tell me that's "normal" for some of you...lol. Hope you all had a good weekend!! |
