BigDH - 2012-07-30 2:34 PM second that on flats. They suck. I take a good 30 min on the rode to change one. Grrrrrrrr.

I have had a ton of flats this year! sometimes 2 in one ride @#$#%@#$. I am probably in the same boat...30 minutes.

I always carry my cell now...Call AAA aka my wife and kids for pickup!

Gentlemen... I'm so glad this week is over!  I spent the week getting packed up and moving to our new home.  It was a bit^h  but it's done.

I managed to get in my rides (even if I didn't log them) and also had my first flat (god did it suck.  Not only did I get a flat - but my pump didn't work and then it started to rain... brutal).  But I'm proud to say that before my back tire went, I was able to get up the mountain that I failed to finish in June. So, I feel pretty good as I get ready for my taper.

So, I don't know if I told you about this last week, but when my wife heads south to visit her dad, I'm gonna head up to Canada to visit Montreal and Quebec City to try some tasty ice cold beverages.  It will be hard not hanging out with my father in law (hear that sarcasm), but I think I will manage to a decent time.  My goal is to try or sample 20 new beers over the course of 3 days.  Does it get any better!

Do you have a designated driver? Enjoy, and don't forget to have some poutine!

PS: you have mountains in MA?

Went swimming this morning...should have stayed home and drank coffee. Brutal, lifeless workout.

Kind of in the tank lately. Having trouble staying focused!

Foot has been bugging me for the past 2-3 weeks. Have not run other then the race in the past 3 weeks...might have to break down and go see doctor sooner then later. My season ending September sprint tri has been cancelled and now I am unsure whether to do the Oly Aug. 19. Price goes up tomorrow.

I need to win a lottery.

Woot Woot...my husband forced me to buy a new bike.  A Fuji Comp...it was a special Sheel's had, an all carbon frame for $1000.  He said we were spending money to save money...after 28 years of marriage he has learned well!  He was in the process of buying another gun and saw the bikes and said I had to have it...ok if I must!  Makes my Giant Defy feel like a beast.  I put inexpensive aero bars are which I love!  Wind? No problem...hills...well more my issue than the bike but it was easier fo' sho'.

Dude, rough times. If the foot is hurt, I mean 3 weeks with only one run and your foot still aches, I don't know. Get it checked out.

That and ibuprofen and ice (20 min on, 20 min off x2 in the evening).  completely submerge in a bucket of cold ice water.  do this for 2-3 days and if it's inflamation of any kind, you should notice a difference.

Way to get in the workout!  While is sounds like you might be running out of gas with a sore foot and lots of training - give yourself a pat on the back for being different from the vast majority of americans who stay at home and drink their coffee and get fat.  Be proud - you're a Molson drinking canadian who is willing to fight the fight and finish the race.

Now - keep the faith.

OK - Just a quick update...

1) I'm leaving in 30 minutes for what I am calling the Tour de la Bière Canadienne.  My goal on this trip is to try 25 new beers. Here is the itenerary:

Wednesday - Visit Alchamist Brewing Co, then onto Montreal for stops at the city's 5 best brew pubs.
Thursday - Quebec City - again 5 best brew pubs
Friday - Portland, ME - Maine Brewing Co and Allagash.

2) I moved this weekend and can't find the damn scale... Disapointing since I think I lost at least a couple of pounds thanks to the fact that I burned an extra 15 hundred calories packing boxes and moving crap.  Good luck to you guys during the last week of the contest.  Even if you come up short - losing weight this week moves you closer to your goal (I've stored up a 3,000 calorie deficit I plan to use sampling delicious canadian beer).  I also found out about a bike sharing program called Bixi where you can rent a bike for 30 minutes at a time to get around the city instead of sitting on your taking public transportation.  More riding = More beer.

3) My training is going well.  I'm really falling in love with my bike.  Now I just need to get faster.  Yesterday I did a 25 mile ride with 800 feet of elevation gain and average 15.7  Not bad - but I know I can get faster.

4) While I am away, my bike is getting serviced to be ready for my century next week.  Pretty stoked when the repair guys says - "Boy - it looks like you put a lot of miles on this bike."  Yes I did.

I will check in on Saturday.  Any suggestions for my taper.  I want to be fresh for my century on the 11th.

bought 2 new pairs of shoes yesterday. I went to get a different pair of minimal trail shoes and decided on the NB 110, which has a plate in the forefront to smooth out some of the rocks. Then there was a pair of peregrines from last year for 50 bucks I couldn't say no to. Now to find a place to hide them from the wife.

Sounds like an enjoyable time.

Lining up for the first one on Sunday.  Hard to imagine it's already time, but then when I look back on it, I've been at it for about 9 months now.  Looking for a 6:00:00 finish or bust.  Hoping temps stay down in the low 90's or below.  22 oz. of Mirror Pond Pale Ale waiting for me at the finish line, on ice.  Looking forward to that.  Thank you all for your inspiring words and stories you've shared about your experiences on here over the last many months.  It's all been very helpful.

Have great long weekend everyone!

Hope you had a nice trip.  An interesting list of gear - beer and a wetsuit... Proof that while some things have changed since you started working out - some things remain the same.  Enjoy the time off!

Well off to the Shushwap after work today...900km(540miles approx.) returning Tuesday...no cell service. All I am taking is my wetsuit for some swimming, no bikes, no runners, just wetsuit and beers!

Have great long weekend everyone!

Good luck Kevin!  6:00 is a serious but achievable goal.  The cold beer waiting for you at the finish line should provide plenty of motivation to keep pushing to the end.  But you should also take a page from Thors book and bring a six pack of warm coors as well.  Under 6 - and you get the Mirror Pond Ale.  Over 6 - and it's warm coors for you.  I look forward to hearing about it tomorrow.

As for the thanks - the feeling is mutual.
