Leah - As of tomorrow it will be 11 days!  Can you believe it?!  Remember when it was like 200 something?  Where did the time go?  My taper has officially started.  I have a slow taper.  This week I have 3 hours less of training and the week after that maybe 3 hours.

I've finally got my my travel plans ready to go.  I have a huge work event on TH and FR before the race.  The event ends at 5 on Friday.  I have arranged for someone to cover me so I can leave mid day to fly to San Diego.  My family will drive and pick me up at the airport at 3:00.  Not ideal but it works.  I will have 5  hours to get up to Oceanside, check in to the hotel and try to find my way around before the morning start time!  Luckily my tri buddies are leaving TH night.  Hopefully they will be able to guide me.

As you can imagine, I'm most nervous about the swim.  I keep looking for photos or videos of the swim to see what it looks like.  It seems to only make more more anxious.   I think once I'm out of the water, I'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment.  One hour and thirty minutes is the magic number.  I have to be out by then. I'm going to try to push the swim the next 11 days.  I know I can do the distance.  It is the OW piece and the time that worries me.   I'm going to do an OWS during a OLY race on the 21st. (1500m) My training buddies are doing to full event but I think it is too much for me.  (Isn't it?

We received a website link from CA70.3 that will allow our friends and families to track us during the race.  I'll post it here soon.  Remind me if I forget.

NUTSOs - You all have races coming up.  Stick to your training plans and don't take it lightly.  You don't want this panic I'm feeling.  It is NO fun.

PS - After this race I am going to drop some weight.  I've stopped losing and need to drop 20 before IMAZ.  Do you all want to do the NUTSO Biggest Loser again?  Let me know your thoughts.

Happy Monday everyone.  The weekend was great on Saturday - 60's and sunny - nice hike with the family (which actually really helps my quad strength with the climbing.  Sunday: Time Change + snow + cold = Scott eating until he burst..I have not had this much junk food in a long time. I think I was just eating because I was bored.  Ate a whole bag of baked cheddar and sour cream ruffles without knowing it.  That means no eating out for lunch this week - I already have the tuna salad packed (ff mayo).

Nice Ride Kate - and don't worry about the swim. You will do fine.  And most of the HIMs are notorious for ahving swim courses that are a little short.  You and Leah will do great.

Lisa - I think I actually have a daily mile account but have not used it..I'll check.

All right - I better get some billable hours in.

I've never heard of daily mile.

And I just got some bad news.  Apparently Computrainers are not compatible with Macs, even ones with Intel processors.  Bummer.  If I am spending this much money, I supposed I can get a cheapo laptop that would work.

You could get a cheap laptop but I think computrainer also has issues with vista and windows 7 though that may be fixed by now if not soon, so be careful because most pcs will come with windows 7 now. It should work with bootcamp on the mac, you would still need to install windows and then pick weather you want to start up the computer as a Mac or Windows but there is a hassle factor there.

Did you make a decision on the bike coach?

FYI Scott and everybody daily mile:
oops wouldn't let me link but I'm /lisa_tris

Leah - It will be better.  You have trained so much harder this time!  You are ready!  I have my computrainer ride tomorrow at 6:00am across town.  I'll let you know what I think.  I only have 3 hours so it will be interesting to see how far i get on the 56 mile ride.  This will be interesting.  They told me to bring my bike, my shoes, my nutrition, water and a towel.  Wish me luck!

btw - they said my OWS on Sunday will be about 60 degrees  good practice for CA70.3

I can't believe your race is so close!! Good luck, can't wait to get the link to keep tabs on you online!! I'll be cheering for you on the East Coast!

I've been MIA commuting to a conference down in DC so by the time I get back thru traffic I work out, go home and go to bed. Knee has been acting up so I wasn't able to swim or join the group ride...which I found out later was cancelled because no one showed up. At least I text my friend leading it to let him know. Geez.

My gym was closed for most of the week too because of a major water main break in my town affecting over 15000 people, businesses, etc. They finally got it fixed but my gym was on limited hours with no showers, toilets, towels, etc for almost a week. Luckily I was able to get some workouts in at work gym. Didn't get in my "Queen's 50 miler" so I'll have a re-do this weekend.

I also got fitted for orthotics last night, see how they make me feel while running when they come in. I don't expect to see any "performance" enhancements but if it helps my lower back after running, yippee!!!

Not to worry on the ride, we had to reschedule it for 3/28 cause of all the rain....I'm riding it with a friend this Saturday then with a bunch of other triathlete friends on 3/28

I had to switch around my rides to fit my program.  I am doing my 40 mile Kiri ride tomorrow and my 50 mile Judi ride on either Saturday or Sunday, probably Sunday.

My schedule for tomorrow calls for 35 miles (I am extending it to 40) holding a 17mph pace without stopping.  I think that means that my coach does not want me to engage in my usual habit of stopping in the middle of these long rides for a meal.  Probably because during a race one does not stop for lunch halfway through.  It was just so civilized to be able to stop for lunch.

Don't you just hate it when life and other irritations interfere with your workout?  Good luck with your orthotics.

YES!! Work, life, weather...you know? If I didn't have such nuisances to distract me I'd be the perfect athlete!! LOL

It's beautiful out today! I got a little break and went for a quick walk around the job campus. A little chill but sunny and warm enough that the breeze feels heavenly. Can't wait to run tonight! Going to try some sprints since my running partner is a little slower. I'll run up ahead and walk back to her. I think I get about 1/3 extra distance in that way!

Just checking in. Finishing up our duel birthday weekend here. Gained a couple pounds in the extravagance. Which is a-okay as I'm back on track today with diet and training. It was a total splurge weekend.

Nothing much cooking this week aside from more ramping up, and more foam rollin as my left hamstrings are acting up. I just signed up for my first oly of the season on 6/6, and need to register for the OWS next which just opened registration. Still shooting for HIM at Black Diamond on Sept. 26th, and need to figure out the rest of the Oly schedule for the summer.

Happy training all, are they broadcasting online/tv Oceanside?

Great pictures Leah!  You are a little cutie!!

It was a great day in Kate's Triathlon World.  (1)  I was able to get up the computrainer hills and they were not as bad as i thought.  I was slow and steady but I did it.  (2)  I had a great chat with a tri coach.  He was administering my computrainer ride.  He was pleasant, informative, easy to talk to and happy to help me.  He had done the CA70.3 before and is doing it this time too.  He also raced IMAZ twice!  I'm going to see what I can set up with him after this race.  (3)  He reminded me that I would be racing in the 40 age group this tri season.  Guess what?!  That gives me like 15 more minutes in the swim!!  Hooray!!  I feel ike a ton of bricks have been taken off my back.

As for the ride, it was my first time on a trainer.  I have a new respect for you cold weather folks.  I have never been on one before.  I was about to lose my mind 40 minutes in.  The computrainer was awesome though.  It showed speed, cadence, watts, distance time, elevation, and my little biker lady on screen kept the cadence I was pedalling.  Cool.  After 40 minutes he put me at mile 28 to start the hill section.  He wanted to make sure I would get through the hills.  I was totally spooked about the climb.  The grades range from 11 to 8 to 10.  Crazy climbing.  I was able to take them all!  I can see they are going to be rough but I know if i am slow and focused i can do it.  I probably spend about 2 hours total on the trainer and then left and went to work.  I felt so good after my work out session.

Today was a good day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!  I need to find an Irish place for lunch..which is next to impossible in Denver..In fact if you want any decent ethnic food in Denver you pretty much need to go to Chicago or Milwaukee...(except Mexican of course..which I really do not care for).

Volleyball at 9:30 tonight...hoping to get a mountain bike ride in beforehand. Supposed to be near 70 today (back in the 30's this weekend)
