I have to call the Bike Shop to find out why. I was a little annoyed about it, but left and went to my school instead to finish up a little bit. I could have put in a ride, but it was very cold, and I don't have enough cold gear. :-( Had a breakthrough swim that night though! Saturday, was supposed to go cycle with a friend, she cancelled on me. I wasn't motivated at all to do anything especially with two cancellations. Sunday - I hung out with Las Vegas Tri club. Had me in the hurt cave...2270' of climbing in 20 miles! Don't tell me that's "normal" for some of you...lol. Hope you all had a good weekend!! |

I woke up late this morning and decided to forgo it till tonight. My Grandpa has been pretty sick and I hadn't been to see him in a while at the nursing home. On my way home I got a nasty headache! Just couldn't bring myself to the gym. |

I'm the opposite, I'm lucky to find a route that DOESN'T have 1000ft elevation gain. LOL! I think I mentioned this before, but have you done Mt. Elite 3515 Romeoville, Il | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED I haven't done that climb. But I'm taking notes of the ones you mention. I don't get much chance to do climbs unless I simulate them on my trainer or in computrainer class. I am however contemplating doing the triple crown this year in Wisconsin. Some pretty serious climbing in those! But I I do, it means no xterra races. They all conflict. So I really can't make up my mind yet. Anne's Aunt is coming in to Chicago in June. We are trying to plan a trip out by her the the same month do we can go back with her. We may also go back and do the rock and roll half in October. I'll let you know when we have something more concrete. |

The protocol is supposed to be a seperate 5 minute all out on a seperate day with some rest in between.
Also, here is the link to the page here on BT that you can use to calculate it! Good first test Carla, I would agree though that something appears off.
Ooooh, wow!!!!! This is awesome!!!! :::: Amazed ::: I will review the sessions presented when I follow the link you posted for me. Many thanks Ken! Man, I am deeply grateful for this. My testing protocol was only to time 1 x 20 min... however I realize now that the 1 x 5 min effort is part of the calculation. :| Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! ::: bowing ::: |

As far as the protocol goes, there are a few different ones out there. Since I am doing the BT cycling plan and they offer the program to calculate it all I figured that would be the one I would use. I used to belong to Endurance Nation and their protocol was 2 X 20 and that is what their calculator used. At the time though I was still training by HR which was a 40 minute TT! That hurt! |

But the coach didn't show up, so I just ended up doing a previously remembered workout. So last night I decided to teach myself. My wife had worked with me a little bit last season, but basically, I was on my own with them. After my warm up and some 200's last night I decided my speed set would all be done with flip turns, good or bad. By the end of the workout I was hitting them pretty consistently! It really feels good when you nail one!! My wife then came down from her run, and took some video of me on her iphone. Where I was crushed to see other stuff that I need to work on now!! Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Throwing it out there - Anyone got a good running song that they cannot run without? I need some fast, moderate, slow (pace)! I'm not very into music (big Reba McEntire fan...21 years and counting...lol), and I normally enjoy ballads, rock ballads, and some country, but other than that I don't really listen to music because it takes me a lot of time and concentration to know the lyrics. However, I'm starting a compilation of running songs, not to "listen", but to hear the beats, drums, etc while running. My mind will NOT shut up when I do long runs, and I've discovered that listening to music for long runs actually helps a lot and helps my pacing too!

I can't get into this too deep because I've already had thread around here about my music and it tended to scare some people! lol but on a lighter rock balad side.... I love Slaughter's Fly to Angels, the song puts me in a trance! I also like Candlebox's You, Nickleback's Rockstar and Weezer Say it and So. The rest would scare you! LOL |

jog.fm has tons of music and it is set up by miles per minute. I guess there are some songs that the music helps you stay at 5:00 minute miles and some for 10:00 miles. Although looking through the website it is sort of surprising some of the ones that they have listed at the 5:00 and 6:00 pace songs. |

Extreme Veteran 1700 Normal, Ill. | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Hey everybody. The not-working thing is hard to get used to mentally but all is well. Taking care of financial business and keeping up with the workouts, which are keeping me very positive. The bike: entered the climbing (build 1) phase today. Hard 3 X 10 min hill repeats @ 97 to 100%. Smacked it. That was after masters this morning where I am using new stuff I got from semi private lessons with a tri coach. Really took down the time and effort. New eyes are key. The running club started their spring program and I tested at the 9:10 pace group on a night when we had 40 mph gusts. Really good with that. Otherwise, looking for some part time work and applying to corporations. Also doing a re-read of Friel's Going Long and Triathlete Bible and watching some vids on how to plan a workout year, week and day. Gong to do the International Triathlete Coaching Asso. program. 32 days on line, then a test for certification. I think my coach is going to retire at the end of the year and I want to be able to do this for myself. Always something new to learn, isn't there. Have a great week. Ice.

Veteran 536 Long Island, NY | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Long run advice- My long runs are over 2 hours now and will only increase in the near future. The weather has been cool and I’ve only needed to take some water out on my runs lately. But I’m looking ahead to the 26.2 miles and thinking I should start to have a nutrition plan in place for the race. I’m sticking w/ gels since they’ve work for me in the past, although I will have time to experiment in the coming weeks if someone has another suggestion. I’m not sure what my time will be as this is all new territory for me. I’d be happy with 4 ½ hours at a 10:30 pace. I’m going to need to refuel and my plan is to have a gel every ½ hour and sip water as I go. Any advice would be appreciated. |
