All right - I'm back from the beer tour.  Man did I have a great time.  I don't have the final count of the number of beers I tried - but it's got to be pretty close to 50 new brews.  I loved many of the brew pubs I visited and one was so good I thought I had died and gone to heaven.  I ate like a pig - Tim Horton's for breakfast, pub food for lunch and a burger each night for dinner.  And the fact that I was kid-free was also a bonus.

OK so today is Get Back on Track Day... I went to the store and bought a lot of good veggies including quinoa, which I have never had before.  I also picked up my bike from the store and plan on doing 40 when it finally cools down enough for me to head out.

Now that I've written it - I'm gonna have to do it so I will write an update later.  Kevin - I hope you are resting those legs and Thor is probably drinking a molson as we speak.  DH, what kind of diabolical workout do you have planned to break in those new shoes?

Yesterday My wife and I went to a new running store in town that opened up.  Fleet Feet.  They are a multi-state chain, but are new locally.

She needed to get a fit for some new shoes.  Her New Balance were taking a gouge out of her heal that looked like something off of a horror movie every time she ran over 3 miles.  So, she got a pair of Brooks and had a good run in them yesterday evening with no chunks of skin missing!

I also splurged and ended up with a pair of Brooks as well.  I've never run successfully in anything other than Ascics, so it'll be interesting to see how the Brooks hold up.  I plan on abusing them this fall/winter on the HIM improvement plan.

It was nice going into a store, and having knowlegable staff (several triathlete's) look at your foot, size you, and watch you run, all while making knowlegable suggestions on what shoe may work best for you.  A little pricey, but since I'm a teacher, $ well spent. Smile

Thor's drinking a Molsen right nowLaughing, David's recovery from 50 beer crawlWink and Darren is on a slow death march on a trail somewhere in one of the upper provincesWink

Proud of all of you!

Sounds like a lovely vacation.

Unforuntatly, still in recovery from the mole-like-thing removal. So currently on my 4th off day in a row. Lots of lunches and late nights though since I don't have to get up early to bike or run at lunch. Hopefully a little run tomorrow.

Morning - Good luck to you this morning Kevin!  Kick some and make your students proud.

As for the Ascics/Brooks switch, we have a fantastic running store in town (sounds a bit like the store you went to) and they recommended Brooks for me as well.  Ascics used to fit people with really wide feet like me but they downsized last year (according to the staff) and moved to a thinner shoe/more like Nike's.  So, they recommended Brooks and I've loved them.  Enjoy.

I went out for my ride yesterday and got 20 miles in... and I ate well for dinner and spurged by trying 4 new beers that I shared with a friend.  Do y'all have Allagash out there?  It's phenominal stuff - I tried their Four Ale that clocks in at 10% ABV.  Nice.

Now I'm planning out my next couple months of training.  In September, I want to do a sprint and then another century in October and finish up the year with a 1/2 Mary in November.  My goals are to continue to improve my overall fitness and get down to my optimal weight of 170 before the holidays.

The plan for the day - After getting in another 20 miles on the bike, I'm making beer with a couple friends and a guy who actually owns a local brewery.  All the beers he makes are made with Lager yeast and he wants to do a test batch to try to make a Belgian Strong Ale without using the typical Belgian Ale yeast which gives Belgian beers their banana/bubblegum taste.  Should be cool!

it hasn't been great but all told not a bad time for it. Wednesday went out on a date with the wife without being exhausted, Thursday it was rainy and I felt like anyways. Friday was an awesome family day, again, not exhuasted. Saturday too. Sunday, well, I did get out for 30 minutes today. But again, not exhuasted. Run sucked though. 4 days off really is not a good thing whatsoever. I don't get how anyone can take time off before a big race.

Gentlemen - Isn't tomorrow our final weigh in day.  I ask because I've spent the last two days looking for my scale and I can't find it.  Seriously.  I will keep looking but I need to ask you for an extension because I won't find it before breakfast tomorrow.

Wow, lots happening last week for everyone!

Kevin, you kicked ! I hope you had 2-22oz after that! Great job!

David, good to see you enjoing all things canadian....beer and tim hortons! No poutine??

Darren, sucks to be off....I feel your pain.

As for me...well foot still bugging me...waiting for Dr.'s office to open then going to make an appointment.

Had a great minivacation. No power, cell service, tv etc. Beautiful weather all weekend. Breakfast, to the beach for coffee while watching kids play in water. My son would row his dinghy to the store while I swam. Warm water, didn't even use wetsuit. Had a great weekend! Not sure what holds this week until I see the doctor. Probably ride my bike and swim as it creates the least pain for my damn foot.

Pretty sure I am not entering the Alberta Challenge triathlon.

Have a good week everyone!

Yeah I think so. I don't have a scale but weighed in yesterday at the dr office at 184lbs. The cost of a week off and well rested and hydrated muscles I imagine. Unfortunately the promise of beer in the future did not keep me from beer today. So pm me your addresses and the cheque will be in the mail, as they say.

First off - way to go Thor on your weight loss.  Impressive!

So, I found the scale yesterday afternoon and weighed myself mid-day.  I was 179.4 - so I beat my goal and I am thankful for your support.

As for paying up - it's your call.  I've been motivating myself for close to three months with the thought of drinking free beer - so if you have 20$ lying around - feel free to send a giftcard.

I would rather have you either - 1) Go double or nothing = if you make your goal by a certain day then you owe me nothing but if you don't, then you owe me 40$.  2) Take the $20 you would have sent me and use it to buy something that will make your goal a reality.  It's your call - I just want to support you as y'all have supported me.

OK - now if I could just get some fricking sleep.  With the century coming up in 72 hours, the last thing I need is insomnia.

Well the verdict is in from the Dr....also went for x-ray just in case but this is what he thinks it is.

Morton's neuroma is a swollen or thickened nerve in the ball of your foot. When your toes are squeezed together too often and for too long, the nerve that runs between your toes can swell and get thicker. This swelling can make it painful when you walk on that foot. High-heeled, tight, or narrow shoes can make pain worse. Sometimes, changing to shoes that give your toes more room can help.

Guess no more wearing high heal shoes...Laughing

Will try get into Physio tomorrow. On anti-inflammatory now. Hoping this goes away sooner then later. It is dragging me down. I might look at buying a new pair of bike shoes. The ones I have now are pretty narrow for my wide feed. I am thinking this may be the cause. One lousy triathlon this year...

That sucks!  So sorry to hear that your proclivity for wearing your wife's shoes has caused you soo much pain.  Hopefully, the anti inflammatory will help get you back on your feet soon.

I'm with you about the bike shoes - hopefully a new pair will do you right.  And don't give up on doing another tri this year - I hear there are some nice ones in florida in November and December.  Might be a good excuse to take your family on the road to warmer/none molson drinking climates.

Today I rode the Harpoon Point to Point and can now cross my goal of riding a century this year off my list.  It was a good ride and I am pleased I was able to finish the 115 miles without crying - but I really need to work on my speed.  I made the decision to start slow - but I was easily 5-10 mph slower than everyone.

The ride ended at the Harpoon Brewery and thoroughly enjoyed the post race beverages and burger.  Just for the record - I ordered it with extra cheese and with order of onion rings AND fries.

Here is the race report.

Now I've got to come up with a new goal and plan for the next 3 months...

First - the burgers... The burgers were incredible.  For some reason, I'd been thinking about the burger since about mile 20 of my ride...The longer I rode, the more I wanted one.  I'm not sure but the waitress might have lost a few of her fingers when she tried to put the basket down on the table.  So good!

Second - the swim... A 10K swim... You have lost your mind!

I'm sitting here on couch... watching last year's Kona replay...  Yesterday - I did 1/3 of the distance... 1/3 and I might have been able to finish an additional 1/2 marathon... Maybe...

So my wife sits down next to me and asks, "Is the olympics on?"...

I don't want to be the common interest story... I don't want to be the dad with cancer...

I just want to see if I can do it... Not because I want to prove to others that I can... I just want to know if I can...

Later...

My wife becomes glued to a story about a woman with colon cancer - "this is the stuff that makes me keep going when I'm watching at the gym."

So I say to my wife, "at some point - it has has to become your story of else it's just something on television."  And I wonder if I can do it...

And I want to try to make it my story...  I want to see if I can do it.

PS - Kevin - I want it to be your story!
