Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() slornow - 2012-08-08 6:45 AM Good morning all! What does everyone have planned for today? What I had planned: A solid 8 mile run I'm ready for cooler Fall weather. The humidity this morning was gawd awful. Hope everyone else has a much better experience! Stu |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stu-I've had a few of those types of runs lately myself. I'm ready for some Fall temps....problem is we are still 2 months out down here in South Alabama. Nothing but squishy socks and smelly shoes until things cool off I'm scheduled for 1.5 hours on the bike this evening. Counting on those 4 fans I have surrounding my trainer to keep me from melting into the floor. Randy |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree with you on the cooler weather comment. It's been raining a lot here in Greenville over the past couple of weeks and has cooled down quite a bit. Yesterday was a bit overcast and I decided to go on a run. I was only going to do a Z2 23 minute run, but I felt so dang good (I assume because of the cooler weather) that I kept going and did my full 4 mile route. At the top of my z2 heart rate, that was the fastest I've ever done it. Something like 37 minutes. Felt great afterwards. I didn't realize that a cooler temperature would have that much of an effect on how well I perform at a certain heart rate! Today I'm convincing my girlfriend to do a spin cycle class with me at the YMCA. Going to try to take it easy since I race on Sunday. Might get an easy swim in beforehand if time permits. -Nate |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Swim completed. Run later this afternoon. It is always hot and humid where I live. It is cool from late November to mid March. Even during that time we will have to turn our air conditioner on because of the humidity and hot days. You just get used to the heat and soggy shoes. I have 2 pairs of shoes that are rotated out so they'll be dry to start a run in. The amount of water that comes out of my socks after a run is always impressive! Randy, I currently have 3 fans on my trainer. Hubby bought me an Air King fan for my birthday! Yes, that is what I wanted for my birthday this year. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Put the bike in the shop yesterday for a tune-up before the race Saturday (I really need to learn how to work on it myself). Ran 4 yesterday morning, with 2 miles at race pace, then another 3 last night because I was bored. I did a 1/2 hour on a bike trainer at the gym today, didn't love it, but it was better than nothing. Then I did 2,000 in the pool today. I'm going to try to take it relatively easy the starting tomorrow since my race is on Sunday. On another note, they just announced an Ironman 70.3 in Raleigh next June, and I'm going to try and get in. My parents live there, so it'll be nice having a cheering section, and I won't have to pay for room & board. Good stuff! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all, Sorry I haven't checked in lately...Been having some problems with the internet at the house being very spotty. Oh well... Having an 'O.K.' week, but overall feeling much better about my preparation, as well as the fact that my diet is finally starting to get back into place. Had a 2 hour run this AM, and honestly it was one of the most difficult/horrendous run I've EVER had. I wore my shoes, socks, etc. Nothing new, but for some reason the socks were rubbing on my toes rather bad, and ended up just making it a dull pain. I tried everything stopping to attempt to switch the sock around to changing my stride a bit...nothing worked. I really hit the 'wall' about an hour in. Mind you I wasn't really pushing myself to go fast, but I opted to take a nice slow and steady pace and try and negative split the run. Well that went out the door, and was just happy to get back home. This heat and humidity is killing me down here. Couldn't get in enough salt/water...Oh well. I got it done, and I am happy to say that. Had to cancel my swim for today since the pool was closed due to inclement weather. Going to try and knock it out tomorrow afternoon after my 4 hour bike in the AM. Going to be a long day. Hope everyone else is doing good! -Nick |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone. Another quick checkin. This time, alas, after being released from the hospital. I got sick (related to earlier intestinal problems from several weeks ago) and threw up a lot, etc.... (we'll skip details), and ended up with a brief kidney failure (so say the doctors). They got me rehydrated and thankfully the predicted kidney stones never materialized. No training for another day or two. I did get some training done in the mountains (not logged yet). I'll catch up soon. Sorry for the last couple of 'hit and run' posts. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Micheal, I was beginning to wonder where you were. I'm so sorry to hear that you were in the hospital. Please take the time to recover fully before jumping back into training. Take care. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Michael! You get better real soon, k? Stu: I seem to move much quicker doing more of a shuffle! I have no idea why there aren't as many brown folks doing tris. Most of the people here are brownies. It was an interesting observation. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Watching Olympics open water swimming. Less kicking involved here. My swim team coach loves lots of kicking, but I have found less kicking, more "gliding" to be more efficient for me when I got for a straight 1500 set. Michael!!! I hope you're taking good care of yourself. Thinking of you and hoping for a quick recovery. Edited by Blanda 2012-08-09 6:11 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Best wishes to get fully recovered soon, Michael. Good luck this weekend, Nate and Jamie! (and anyone else racing!) Steve, glad to hear you bounced back fairly quickly. You've been putting in the time this season and it's paying dividends. I'm still "waiting" for my legs to get back under me. I did better last summer running more often. But I seem to recall some pretty sad runs last August as well, so I'll just keep plugging away. Sounds like I'm not alone on the run misery (and misery loves company). Have a great day everyone! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Falling behind on training. My brother had an emergency and he lives 2 hours away. Forfeited long run, now back to work after up half the night. He's in the hospital with a massive GI Bleed. He'll be OK but training on hold so I can be there for him and his family. I know my training consistency throughout the year will likely mean no loss of fitness, but still in my mind I don't like that feeling of falling behind. Hopefully get in a run or something tonight depending on how things go. It never ceases to amaze me, just as in tapering how my body feels like SH&** at times, muscles achy when I stop training even for a few days. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We're back in Columbia, now. Yeah, Rene, race weight is not an issue, lol. Whether I actually race is sort of up in the air, though. It would kinda suck to be at race weight and NOT race.... For the moment, I'm behaving as if it will happen. I will take a day or two to try to become myself again, and go from there. I'm going to go see my real doctor today. He's a runner (a pretty good one), so understands where I'm coming from. I'm just worried that I'm deluding myself that I can deal with whatever these intestinal issues are that I'm having for the duration of an Ironman. It feels like this latest escapade was brought on by a particularly tough long run on Monday, but maybe I'm just imagining that. I'm going to read through everything I missed, now. Have a good day everyone. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got 90 minutes of racquetball in this morning and hopefully a nice slow long run after work. Good luck to all the people that race this weekend. What else is happening? Looks like there is a small but nice break in the 100's here in Dallas. Jimmy - Hope your brother is getting better soon Michael - Hope you get better soon and if it isn't IMWI this year there is always next! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hmmm... I'm feeling a little better about the fact that my runs have been sufferfests this summer. Check this link out regarding where July 2012 ranks in terms of hottest on record 2012 record heat I'll also readily acknowledge that a Texas summer ranked 89 vs. a Virginia summer of 118 is still likely worse! |

Yep, it's actually cooled off here a bit, although the humidity never leaves, so I did a 10-mile run today. By mile 7, my shoes felt like they weighed 1/2 pound each and were squishing the whole way. Just so hot... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For all of you suffering through the heat; I rode my bike this morning in pouring rain, blustery winds and 60 degree temperatures. I just could not stomach the idea of three hours on the trainer. Rain seemed like a better solution than sitting in one place for hours on end. I almost froze to death. I got wet, rode in the wind, then got a huge cut in my tire about 15 miles from home. By the time someone was able to pick me up I was shivering uncontrollably and felt like a popsicle. I personally would rather deal with heat than be freezing cold. I know that you can always layer, but for me being cold is just so much worse than being hot. To each their own. On the plus side, I am feeling much stronger on the bike. After months of minimal improvement I am making gains. Yee haw! |
