September Four-Is-More Challenge Team Standings - Week #3

September is now 70% completed. Are you on target to meet your goals?

Here are the current team standings:

FIRST PLACE - Whips, Cattle Prods and Tiaras (WCPT) - 55.4%
SECOND PLACE - Team Post Padding - 51.9%
THIRD PLACE - Team Horny Melons - 49.7%

Congratulations to our new leader, WHIPS, CATTLE PRODS and TIARAS (WCPTs) !

BUT September isn't over yet! We still have more than a week to go! So remember - if you don't MOVE IT this month, your team is likely to LOSE IT!

Need a reminder of what happens at the end of the month?

The winning team(s) will display a signature line: "My team won the September Four-Is-More Challenge!"

All other (losing) teams will display an avatar of something that SHOULD have made them move more! This could be your shoes (ie: you should have run more), or your bike (ie: you should have biked more), or your bathing suit (ie: you should have swam more), or.... etc.

Avatars and signature lines will be displayed for the month of October. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it.

- Dee

I can promise you guys that I'm meeting my running, swimming and strength training goal. But I have to be honest that the bike is not looking likely. I haven't biked at all this month due to my shoulder injury. I'm planning 3-4 rides this next week, but I can't put in serious time on the trainer since I can't put pressure on my arm, so I'm thinking I'll get to 60-70% at best. Sorry, I had hoped my healing would be further along this month, but had to wait to see the doc again.

Since this is injury related - you can adjust your goals.

How many days of biking did you miss due to the shoulder problem?

You may revise your biking goal:
(Days actually able to bike) divided by (Days planned to bike) times (original goal) = (revised goal)

For example, if you were actually able to bike 10 days, had planned to bike 15 days, and had a goal of 100 miles:
10 / 15 x 100 = 66.7 miles revised goal

D001 - 2008-09-21 12:13 AM Hello September Challenge Participants! Here's an update on the September Challenge "Secondary Challenge." Yes, I refer to the POST PADDING CHALLENGE, of course! Here are the current standings: Whips, Cattle Prods and Tiaras (WCPTs) - 1789 Posts Team Post Padding - 1590 Posts Team Horny Melons - 1531 Posts Congratulations to team WHIPS, CATTLE PRODS AND TIARAS! Want an update of what's being discussed? Whips, Cattle Prods and Tiaras - This team really needs to change their name to Whips, Cattle Prods and TASERS. They have given up rhinestones in favor of a large assortment of fashion-forward tasers. And boots. And high-heeled shoes. Extra points are given if the tasers and shoes match, especially if they are pink or leopard print. Team Post Padding - There's lots of running, swimming and biking going on here. Embedded in the midst of peoples' workout remarks was a partricularly fascinating one by Saling4, "I AM NOT wearing a bra." No, I won't tell you what page it's on. But it's there. Really, it is. Team Horny Melons - Melissa is doing her best to pad the team's post count. Based upon her daily post count totals, she should be challenging TinkerBeth's status pretty soon. Rudy, who couldn't swim 100 yards two months ago, is now doing 1500-1600 yards - and could be doing more! Great job! The team should probably look into a group discount on Finis LabTrack counters though. If you haven't already done so - Don't forget to update the spreadsheet tonight. I'll be pulling the totals tomorrow morning for the weekly standings. - Dee

I may be falling short on the bike goal, but I can help with the post count I missed a few days due to work so I think I'll go back and reply to every single post. It's the least I can do for the team.

I've missed the past 3 weeks essentially, except for one very short day the first week. I was planning to bike approximately 10 days, total of 100 miles since I'm restricted to the trainer and my miles are shorter. I biked one day, and will likely be able to do 3 now that I'm moving along with recovery. So based on that:

4/10 x 100 = 40 miles. Does that sound right?

I feel like I should have just HTFUd and gotten on the trainer, but getting the go ahead to start running again and having to swim with one arm definitely took it's toll. Sorry everyone. I feel like a big loser.

saling4 - 2008-09-21 2:04 AM I mist admit 18 miles is awesome.  Someday I may run that far (wishful thinking).

There's always today. Get your shoes on and go...

Ok, enough padding for now. I'm off for a 15-mile run that I'm sure will be riddled with pain. The doc warned me that my shoulder pain is going to increase for awhile now that I'm allowed to use it again But at least I can use it.

Personal opinion - You're not a "loser." Nor do you need to HTFU. You're dealing with an injury - and trying NOT to cause additional damage to your body. Therefore, you have to listen to your body, and not do something that's going to slow down your recovery.

I've revised the spreadsheet so your goal is now 40 miles of biking for the month.

You should not have HTFU'd and been riding anyway.  That sounds like a way to make yourself more injured.

I think I was overly optimistic about how fast I would heal. I just wanted to try to do too much. It will be better to limit the biking and keep focusing on running since it doesn't hurt my shoulder at all.

Probably.  I hurt a lot more today than I did yesterday.  The ice bath really helped.

After my sick day Thursday, we still got away for our weekend.  I ran both Fri and Sat, and did my core exercises both days AND swam one day!  Today was only a travel day so no training today - but it's "rest week" with a tri on Saturday.
