fattyfatfat - 2009-05-21 1:22 PM   I think this third child might be our last so I'm really milking (LOL..no pun intended) the DD thing w/ Jarrett.

John,  if DD = designated driver then you should talk to my husband.  We have three kids, and I actually went from being pregnant to nursing, to being pregnant again to nursing, to being pregnant again to nursing again.  For 54 months straight I was either pregnant or nursing (I'm not kidding, and yes I counted).  So, he had 4.5 years for his DD.  And boy did he take advantage of it!    Problem was, after the third child was done nursing and I was awake enough to even want a drink it only took me one to fall over (or fall asleep).  So he did have his share of DD for a while (until I built my stamina back up).

I really need to get my mind out of the gutter, I was glancing at the page and this is the first thing I read.  I had to go back and read the whole post to see what you were talking about.

"It's really a great group, we even let in a couple Canadians..."

Hey I like Canadians! My favorite group sport is ICE HOCKEY! GO Canes!!!!! Funny story, after losing the weight I went out to play a pickup game. I have two sets of pants, regular and fat boy. The fat boys have zippers on the inseams so that you can put your skates on first. Otherwise your stomach gets in the way and you can't tie your own laces.

Anyway, the rwgulars were now too big, and for the first time in my life I had to adjust my shoulder pads in as they were too big too.

Anyway I am still 6' and 200 lbs. so people keep riding behind me on the bike. Where is a bigger person for me to ride behind?

I think I'll form team 5 for the virtual tri. Go team Late to the Party!

dalessit - 2009-05-21 10:20 AM Wow lots happened in 2 hrs.

I just got back from our Kindergarden tour, my son will be going in the Fall.  It is amazing how many busy-body parents their are.  The county I live in has some of the top rated schools in the country so I assume that teachers are well trained and know how to teach my kids.  I wouldn't want them stopping by my office telling me how to post on BT or figure out the Drag Coefficient on my bike, so I won't question their methods or tell them how to do their work.  Parents were questioning teaching methods, and all kinds of stuff.  Saw 2 sets of parents with 2 pages of notes from an hour and a half tour....

Also mad that I lost an e-bay auction for some new bike shoes because cell-phone reception stunk in the school.

Well rant off

Rob I will post the link again, Tracy I actually had a guy in the lane next to me last week when I brought my wetsuit in that was actually the wetsuit fitter from one of the local Tri-shops, he helped me adjust and said the suit fit me fine and I still had arm/shoulder issues.

Suzy, up to you all, if you want I don't care if times get faster and people update them.  I think the cutoff was June 1st.

You know whats interesting about that..My wife is an elementary school teacher. I am an oil & gas guy. No one ever questions what I do, or how I do,etc, etc. But school teachers? Everyone things they can be school teachers. They are parents after all. How hard could it be to be a teacher? You don't need education do you? We have a lady across the street with a 4 year old, who tells my wife all the time about schools, teaching practices, how 'gifted' her child is,etc, etc. I can't believe theat my wife hasn't wound up and smacked her yet....Oh wait, shes a teacher...she has azaing tolerance and patience for others. Something I still need to learn from her.
And you have to love that fact that you were at your kids school trying to win shoes on ebay...I love that! Thats muti-tasking at its best.

Doug, welcome.  I too am a North Carolina resident, right down the road in Apex.  I'll see you at the Triangle Tri!  And ready for some more similarities..... my husband is a very strong biker, plays Ice Hockey, and is named Doug.  We've got to get together.  Plus I ride with a group of guys and I think one of them might have you beat on the size.   I want to see photos of your custom paint job.  And by the way, ignore John.  He recently took a spill and the blood flow hasn't returned to his brain yet.  Wink

Team 4, just did my 400yd swim for the race and it was a PR baby!!!!  7:48!!!   How'd ya like them apples?!??!

Tony as a former teacher, your comments don't surprise me at all!!  I use to teach high school biology therefore I have a couple degrees in that subject.  But never the less I would hear these two comments at least once every year from parents, "I mean it's just biology, how hard can it be?" and my absolute favorite, "I could have been a teacher but I chose to get a real job instead."  Honestly, the reason I don't teach anymore is not the pay or the kids but the parents.  And I can say this because both my kids are in school, PARENTS ARE NUTS!!!  Thank you on behalf of all teachers for having some faith in their competency.

dalessit - 2009-05-21 12:12 PM Just ordered these, since I wasn't able to get the specialized via e-bay

http://www.lakecycling.com/cx330c-08-p-68.html

I exchanged a few PM's with Jordan Rapp from ST and he uses the Boa type shoes for tri's and says they work great, I figure if he isn't paid to use them but still does his recomendation is pretty good.

I tried the specialized on in the shop and they were very easy to get on and off.

Also good for both Tri and Road.

Tony I talked to these guys when I was looking.  I didn't buy shoes from them but their customer service was top notch!

DougRob - 2009-05-21 12:18 PM

Hello everybody. I spoke with Steve today about joining this group a bit late. He said yes so I am here to introduce myself. I joined BT a little late to get into a group and the one I joined (one of the few still open) is very inactive. Cry Anyway I have been reading yours and it seems to have the atmosphere I prefer. I live in Raleigh, NC and work in Durham, so I am near two of the members. I moved here from Northern Va so I know the area of another member in Arlington.

NAME: Doug

STORY:
I am 48 years old. I was a serious road racer in the late 70's early 80's. I have played ice hockey regularly for the past 30 years. Unfortunately I let m fitness fall by the waist side (pun intended) and found myself at 285+ pounds on 5/24/08. I joined Weightwatchers and strated walking. That evolved into running and swimming (we have a pool in the backyard). I also began riding my exercycle at night. No television unless I was on the bike. Well in April this year I broke 200 lbs. and last week became a lifetime member at WWer's for keeping my lbs . off for 6 weeks.

Prior to Spring I was up to 35-45 miles/week running. Now I am running less, but riding and swimming more. Triathlon seemed the obvious way to apply the exercise I was doing and keep myself focused. I have a hilly 2.5 mile route I run. It is the same route I started on that I had to walk in the beginning. Periodically I like to run it as fast as I can to gauge my fitness and see how far I have come. My best so far is 17 minutes and 7 seconds. I am spent at the end though! Running used to be my worst event as I am flat footed and pronate. However I got fitted and now run in Brooks shoes that are a dream. Now I am working on my swim technique as biking is still my best.

I just got a new Tri bike and will post some bike Porn as soon as I snap some pics. My road bike is my baby as it was made for me when I raced and I  designed the paint job. I will ride that one in my first tri as I am unot used to the new one yet.

Speaking of my first tri, it is in 16 days! My next is 3 weeks later and my 3rd is 2 weeks after that. They are all sprints. I went and watched a spint at NC State in April to see one up close and watch transitions. I am pumped to compete! I am just using the first one as a trial and a base line. They do not use timing chips in this one so it helps me dial down my expectations and get my feet wet. I have done the course 4 times now.

I have enjoyed reading your posts. You seem very diverse and very enthustiastic. Please forgive my late arrival.

FAMILY STATUS: Married (Robin) close to 13 years, two kids, girl 10.5 and boy almost 9.

CURRENT TRAINING: Kinda described this in the beginning. Running about 25 miles/week. Swimming moving up to about 2.5 miles a week from 1+ miles/week. Biking moving to 100+ /week.

2009 RACES:  Looking forward to the Triangle Triathlon, Pinehurst Tri, and Duke Half (If I am ready)

WEIGHTLOSS:
I am at the high end of where I want to be. I hope to shed another 10-15 lbs. over the rest of 2009.

WHAT DO I BRING: I have a lot of bicycling experience and was a bike mechanic off and on for 7 years as a teenager and ito college.

Thanks again Steve.

Oh, BTW: I travel periodically to Germany for work so my posts may be at odd hours. I leave Saturday for all of next week.

Doug

Welcome to the group.  I think you will love the atmosphere.  I am a second timer and will definitely re-up when my contract expires if Steve will have me.

I'm the resident runner, who is trying like heck to figure out how to swim.

Suzy:  From the posts I figured you were a runner. I am doind drills right now to reteach myself how to swim. I have stamina but lousy technique. I have brought my 100 yds. time down from 1:55 to 1:37 in three weeks time. I have yet to time myself for a longer swim.

John: Thanks got onto the spreadsheet.

It seems group 1's sheet is configured differently than the others. Different fields. The way the other groups have entered their times looks like the averages are confused. Is there really a place for hours in a 400 yds. swim? Are we supposed to start with just minutes? Same question for the run.

Since I will be gone next week, I am going to try to swim tomorrow morning at the outdoor pool for my 400. I'll use saturday morning for my run, and afternoon for a quick ride. Maybe at lunch time at work. (Roads are flater in the Cary area Wink). I can do runs in Munich, but alas no road riding or swimming.

Hey Tracy..nice swim. My wife definitely doesn't do it for the money either. She loves kids. She is at a private school, so its a bit different than public schools. But the parents are pretty demanding as they are paying 10k/year for the kid to attend.

My wife taught at a private school before I slipped one past the goalie (for you hockey fans).  I think the fact that they are paying tuition makes them more demanding and feel like they should have more access to the teachers.  She also teaches because she loves kids and is really good at it - I have not been as fortunate in finding a job that I love like she has.

THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME!  Do I need to log into my google email first? do you put @gmail.com at te end of the username? nothing I have tried is letting me in.  Is this a subtle hint?

It is case sensitive I've noticed....put it all in caps and don't forget that exclamation point.

Should just go to the right hand side of the page and for username (or e-mail address) enter the SWBKRUNMG

and enter COMMANDO! for the password.

Let me know if you are still having problems.

This is the same way they do the challenges isn't it?  It's just another google account you could use the SWBKRUN to send mail or whatever if you wanted but we are just using the documents part.

Sorry I was messing with that spreadsheet this morning, when I get home tonight they will all look the same.  This is kind of a work in progress.  I usually have plenty of time to work on this stuff at work but have actually been really busy lately.
