I forgot to mention one of my fave parts of the massage! My lats were sore!!!!!!!!! Yay! That means I'm using them when I swim!!!!!!!!!! Yes. YES!!! SORE LATS!!! That's my girl. You know if I were there, I'd be happy to dig my fingers into them for ya. Because, I'm a giver like that Yeahhhhh, I'm guessing if you were here it wouldn't have taken a massage for me to know my lats were sore, I'd be feeling them all the time... But I appreciate the sentiment... I must say, I did make the piglet squeal this morning when I kept pushing my fingers into his lats ... by the end of the session he didn't even need my fingers to be squealing ... 'CAUSE I'M A GIVER LIKE THAT :D It's really hard to do freestyle that's arm driven and pulling with the arms, and it's a major reason people get tired so quickly. Learning to drive with the hips, and pull primarily with the lats but also back with the whole body as you rotate to the other side ... recruits so many of the big muscle groups to help. Much easier, more efficient, and ultimately much more powerful too. |

Especially since I am still supposed to be taking it easy again this week. But, whatever. I can go to the pool 2 times a week for sure, maybe 3. For an hour at a time. Ish. Warm up however you like. Throughout WU and main set, really every time you're in the pool, be very mindful of form, particularly as it applies to a vertical-forearm-wrist-hand, high-elbow pull. Pull back with your whole body, not just your arm. Main set should be combos of (at most) 200s, but mostly 100s with a good dose of 50s and even 25s. Try to do them on the 2:00/100, or whatever interval gives you a few seconds rest but that you can still consistently make (barely, if at all make on the last few). Some kind of cool-down. My logs should give you a pretty good idea ... ugh, yes, I plan to be in the pool ... anyway, the last two MS for example: 2x (200 hard, 200 easy) 12x100: 1-4 @1:50, 5-8 @1:45, 9-12 @1:40 Doubling Allen's workout main sets would be good too.

I agree with this type of workout for sprint distance prep. Just change the intervals on those 12x100's if you need to, add 5 - 10 sec to each. |

I saw someone on the deck that looked like he was going to use the lane to my right. I swam a bit more and it was time for my next spot forward and the guy was still getting ready to get in the water. I was like, "Dang, he's taking his time." More swimming, another spot forward, he's in getting in the water -- in a wetsuit. OK, he must be trying it out. After my workout I looked and he was still in his wet suit in the water and he had a pull buoy. Wetsuit + pull buoy?! And hand paddles on the deck too. huh. |
