Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Morning Guys! Well, that wasn't the race I hoped it would be. Dang. Cliff's note version, I woke to 18mph NE winds which made the lake a train wreck. While many people were only off 2-5', the white caps impact this non OWS a lot more. Not a great start to the day. I shook it off and hit the bike. Winds picked up to gusts around 30mph late in the afternoon and zapped my zip . Figured I would make it up on the run. Got off the bike and had the same searing back pain I did last year. Lots of stretching and walking through 10m and then it magically went away. Tried to keep it together for the remainder, but had a right foot issue that had me walking a little too much. Mentally, I was fine. The only good news is I moved up to 15 in my AG from a best of 21 three years ago. I'm taking a year off from IM to shore up my weakness, OWS and strengthen the bike. I forget how hard IM is until I'm in the middle of it. Today I'm signing up for Boston and packing the rest of our gear for our trip to Africa. We leave on Wednesday! |

Master 3205 ann arbor, michigan | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Suzy, I was following several people yesterday and they all seemed to be significantly off of what I expected their times to be. The wind really affected a lot of people's races. I know you had a time goal that you did not realize but I suspect you raced very well given the conditions. Your move up in the placings in your AG supports this. I am very impressed. It is tough to race hard when conditions aren't what you expect and you did a great job. (It was very windy when I was running yesterday and I wondered how much of that wind you were getting across the lake) Congratulations on a very well-raced IM. Have a great trip. It sounds incredibly cool. Enjoy the time off and I am sure you will come back ready to work on your swim |

Extreme Veteran 990 Collierville, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED I'm looking at training plans for next season, there's no way I can afford an actual coach, and I looked at and liked Mike Ricci's D3 Multipsort Intermediate Plan. Does anyone have any experience using anything from Mike/D3? |

Race report from Saturday is below: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=500378&posts=1&page=1 Thanks Jamie-this was my first olympic race 4 years ago so intersting to look at improvement over the years. When I did it then my bike was 1:11 at around 20.7mph pace and a finish time of 2:38. Much of the improvement is due to training consistently over the years. Consistency is key! |

New user 410 | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED I had a wonderful weekend biking at the MS150 event here in Memphis, ride was actually in Mississippi. There were over 500 riders, really well organized and lots of enthusiastic volunteers. I finished the whole 150! 95 degrees both days so I was very happy to finish it. Did a 5Mile easy paced run tonight. My century ride is a few weeks away then I have two HM's to finish out this year. |

Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED 1.2 mile OWS in the Savannah River tonight...27 minutes. River's flowing a little faster than expected with no rainfall of late. I wonder if they'll keep it flowing at that rate for the HIM? I wouldn't be saddened if they did. |

Master 3205 ann arbor, michigan | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Took the day off completely yesterday and then overdid it today. Did 4000 yards pretty hard in the pool. It felt like a long time since I had done a full 4000 and I felt like I needed to prove to myself that I could do it. It was hard but I felt remarkably good. Randy, Really cool to look at your time for the exact same race a couple years apart. It really demonstrates how much improvement there has been. Jamie, I have been thinking about your run pace question. I need to formulate the right answer and take some time to get it typed up. I'm not sure I have a good answer but I haven't forgotten all about it. It is a little harder than bike pacing but it is close to the same algorithm. I will get to it, I promise. Nancy, 27 minutes for 1.2 miles? That is outstanding. I don 't care how fast the river was flowing, you need to take credit for that swim. My best Olympic swim ever came where the swim was in the Detroit river with the current. I was flying. It made me realize what a good swimmer feels like in the water. |
