Congrats on the race Kathleen! That's awesome that you saw that much improvement on your bike time.

I just got back from this week's big workout with my training group. It was a triple brick which was set up as follows:

18 mile bike, 30 minute run
18 mile bike, 20 minute run
18 mile bike, 10 minute run

I've did something similar a few months ago for my Oly training but the bike legs were only 9 miles so this was in a totally different league. I ended up doing 53 miles on the bike and 5 miles of running total.

I tend to psych myself out before big bike days (since it is my weakness) and end up discounting the work I do because I am the slowest cyclist in my training group. My coach knows that cycling does a number on me mentally, so when I finished today he said something that I've been thinking about all afternoon, he said "since you started training for this race have you ever NOT been able to do something I've asked you to do" and I realize that no, I've done all the training, I just may be a bit slower than the rest of the people I'm training with. I'm uber competitive so it's been interesting trying to rein that in and realize that just doing the training is a huge accomplishment.

Funny how much of this sport is a mental game rather than a physical one.

Sorry for the lateness of this, I'm heading to bed to grab the last few hours of sleep in a moment here before the San Diego marathon.  Looks like I have like 5 pages of posts to catch up on, but not tonight.

Here's the URL for any of you that want to check in on me.  BQ is 3:10.59, I'm aiming to go closer to 3:09 ~7:15/mile pace, hopefully hit the half with at around 1:35 then get the second half in 1:34.  Like I said, I'll be pushing the far extent of my current limit right now, but it's time to see what I have in the tank.

I have a great picture too that I'll post when I get home and get the images loaded... the name on my bib: "HTFU"  I'm in Corral 1, so I'll be one of the first to start moving.  Gun time is at 6:15am (PST), 9:15am Eastern.

http://www.trackmyathlete.com/vemap.aspx?name=050083

Results should be posted fairly quickly on the web site I assume since it's a RnR: bib number is: 3143

Pete's doing great. I think it will be close if he BQ's but as of right now he's got about 37 minutes to finish in below 3:09. He really doesn't have that much more to go though.

Go Pete!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finish strong.

Got in about a 28 mile ride this morning which was good. My neck is still getting stiff about mile 20 or so. This has been happening since I started riding and it's getting old. Anyone have any suggestions about that?

I will probably go to the gym later and finish off the S/B/R that I have to do for the week. Already in the high 90's and it's 9:15am. Yeah!!!!!!

Great job Pete!  I was watching you on the gps tracker but it started recording at 2:45 am and was really tough to gage where you were at.

Looking forward to the race report!

Congratulations Pete. It's amazing that in our group we have so many people doing marathons, 1/2 IM and IM races and even some 50K races I think.

I'm guessing 95% of American couldn't even run a mile and we have people doing 26.2 of them. We're very proud of you and your time.

Thanks everyone for you encouragement and nice comments. They really do mean a lot.
I just got back from the 62 mile ride and I am beat!  The weather was great but windy. It was nice to be able to stop at aid stations and enjoy some snacks, drink and hit the port-a-potty without worrying about losing time.
New max speed on my road bike.... 48.4!  It was a bit scary but lot's of funSmile  I am good with the the downhills it is just when the twists and turns come in that I start hitting the breaks.

Cool workout, first time I have ever heard of a triple brick. One is enough for me

3:31 is a great job Pete!

I had thought you would be in the 3:30-3:40 overall time with your training and prior results.

Outstanding performance!

Great race Pete.  I couldn't do a 3:31 if I broke it up over three runs.  Way to push yourself!

Finished out the week right about where I wanted to be:

52 miles of biking
2500 yds of swimming
12.7 miles of running

Next week is rest week so I get to take a bit of a break from working out. I think I mentally need it.
