Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Anybody have a good recovery drink or strategy and this quick and ready for on-the-go? Been trying the Hammer recoverite, but it is vial tasting. I barely get it down and use all my power to keep it there. I heard Hammer is good, but can't they make it taste better???? Love the Hammer gels and great tasting --- bought a hammer jug of orange gel and a flask that clips to my fuel belt ------ NO MORE gels packs, this is easy, quick, holds about 5 gels (enough for an entire race) and no fussing with tearing it open!!! They make one for the bike too I got, just gotta figure out where to put it. Also, if I don't want a fuel belt, it also store very nicely in my 2XU tri shorts with pockets!!! Would it be wrong to wear tri shorts in a run race purely for functionality?? (yeh my butt will look odd and some won't understand why . . .) |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For recovery basically I keep a scoop of protein powder and 1/2c of oats that have been buzzed in a coffee grinder in a shaker in my gym bag. Add milk or water when done with workout. Takes a little getting used to the consistency, but it works. I'm also the guy who'd shoot olive oil when doing low carb so taste is relative to me. Also say wear the tri shorts if you want to. Whoever is looking at your rear is behind you so you have scoreboard. Would you guys be peeved if you found out a tri you paid full entry for was suddenly listed on groupon? Like over 50% off. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Post workout I usually down a protein shake (EAS Protein Powder and Chocolate Silk) - then, start in on an EcoDrink packet mixed in with 30 oz or so of water.... this combo seems to do the trick for me. I'd say wear whatever you want for your run... |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning everyone! Up (a little) early today to try to get in a 9 mile run before work. Swim during the day today and then a massage tonight night. Kind of a long day. |

Back in the pool today for me. I've been "bad" the last couple of days (it was my bday yesterday) so besides the good ride Sunday, not much in the way of eating well or training. Today I'm back at it though! 2000 yd swim.
Happy Belated Birthday!!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does anyone know how to log massages? Also, the high elbow/fingertip drag finally clicked in the pool. It feels great. The problem is what I do with my hands when they enter the water. I don't feel like I am very forceful. Is this a matter of upper body and/or core strength? Thanks! I have a trainer ride this morning and core work tonight. Edited by jarvy01 2011-03-09 6:24 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Massages are logged in the sports section down at the bottom. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LT Class last night was eye opening... I really need to get some strength training incorporated into my routine! It was fun though (medicine balls, TRX, box jumps, stairs, heavy ropes, prowler sled, kettle bells, sprints, burpees, mountain climbers, and Russian twists) After that, a quick 2000 yds in the pool. And finally, weighed in at 166.5 this morning - a new low! |

How are your hands positioned when they enter the water? Your palm should face slightly inward, which will help give you a better "catch" of the water and you should tihnk about keeping your elbow as high as possible during the underwater pull. |

Does this mean keeping your elbow high in the water in relation to your hand? |

Yes. Your elbow should almost be breaking the top of the water line and the angle of your elbow should be in the 90 degree-ish range. Think about your hand as a paddle and you are "rowing" with each pull. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did not do any Tri work outs today, but spent the day hiking to a bear den with our local DWR to tranq and check the radio collar on a bear. We hiked about two miles up a drainage with 300 feet elevation gain and then headed up the canyon wall and gained another 500 feet elevation in less than 1/2 mile. I was right there at the den as they waited for the second dart to finally knock the bear out as she decided to crawl out of the den. Found out the DWR guy who did the bear tracking was a Triathlete and so we compared training rides and schedules. Brutal climb, but a cool experience. Some days I get good assinments at the paper, this was certainly one (IMG_0080 copy.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_0080 copy.jpg (44KB - 11 downloads) |

![]() | ![]() Sorry to be MIA folks! Saturday, the wife and I headed up to the Berkshires for a belated birthday for Karen. Had a nice time, on saturday basically we drove to each of the little towns, walked around, ate something. Sunday went to the Norman Rockwell Museum (pretty mediocre) and took teh long way home. Between that, meetings, work and little league starting up haven't had time to post much. In terms of training been running and biking mostly. Heading up to Boston with Kelly and Shaun for swim testing this weekend. this will be the first time I have ever receied any real swim coaching and should be interesting. Great training everyone! |

Yes. Your elbow should almost be breaking the top of the water line and the angle of your elbow should be in the 90 degree-ish range. Think about your hand as a paddle and you are "rowing" with each pull. 2 good drills for hight elbows: swim with a straight-arm recovery. if your arm is straight your elbow will automatically be high, also good for rotation fingertip drag/marionette drill. these are one arm swimming drills. as you begin your stroke drag your finger tips along the top of teh water. when you go to dip your hand into the water, enter, then pull your arm back out and redip you hand (think of your elbow like that of a marionette), complete you stroke and move to teh other arm. i tried to find a you tube video but could not. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The bear was close to 200lbs. On the big side for a sow. standing in the entrace of the den as she looked out at us, awake, was an unnerving experience for sure. I have had a few close bear encounters in my river running experiences , but it was cool to actually touch the bear be up in the den with it. It snored once while they were handling it and it sounded like a growl. We all about lost it. Legs are a bit sore and I can tell I have been taking it easy-but feel recharged and ready to hit it hard again. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Pain free run yesterday. Actually the knee popped once during the cool down and there was a shooting pain but it subsided. Felt awesome this morning when I woke up so I decided to take the bike out for a spin on the way to the Y. Very encouraged. This is my first back to back days of real s/b/r work in a month. I had been using pull days in the pool as an "off day" for my legs. Anyway Kemah here I come. 1st Oly tri in T minus 24 days. Start is like the Escape from Alcatraz Tri in San Fran. We'll be going off tour boats and swimming back to shore. |
