i work for a german company.

the guy sitting next to me just said that he doesn't want to use materials that weren't made by American companies.  when i said "these Dow products are probably not made in the US" he said "yeah but the profit shows up in the US and that's what matters to me."

does he realize that our company is traded on the European stock exchange and all of our profits go to Germany?  wtf??

You mean Germany is not a U.S. territory? Didn't the U.S. win 2nd WW? Isn't Dow part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average? Maybe he is smarter than we think. Which is not difficult because we think he's a moron.

Haha, this is all in reference to a product that is being sold to...a German company.

I think one thing I like about TAN is a higher than average concentration of engineers than the general population. Not all engineers like the lab, where I work. That turns out to be deadly dull. Just two or three times more engineers than average for the country. It seems about right.

i love the general nerdiness around these parts.  this morning NPR was interviewing neil degrasse tyson, asking him to discuss the feasibility of different gadgets james bond used.  it was...brilliant.

I heard that bit.  Tyson or T was great.  His analysis that good sci-fi starts with kernel of intriguing science then exaggerates at beyond all possible physics is so good.  Plus he has a great laugh.

Morning TAN.

It's another play date day. At least this time it's with a dad that has no issue with discipline... unlike the nanny who chased the kid around for 15 minutes because she couldn't grab him and go.

Sorry. 'Nuf about kids.

Or you can be Isaac Asimov and begin with a kernel of intriguing science and expand to the possible and theoretical advancement of that science into something commonplace in the future, and then you have great sci-fi.

Asimov was a physicist.  The first book of his that I read was an "everything you need to know about physics" book.  Not a textbook just a book to explain things to the layman.  It was for adults and I was about 12.  It took me about 10 years to get to level of physics that went beyond what I learned there.

So J sends a text saying he stopped at Sbucks and a girl passed out behind counter. He had to check for pulse and call 911.

I, being the good woman that I am, asked if he winked at her to bring about her episode. What I really wanted to ask is if he was crop dusting.

Don't know about that. 43 and a soon to be 4 and 2 yr olds. If I had waited longer, my wife would have had to change three sets of diapers: the kids and mine.

We are going to  see my folks this weekend and she calls to let me know she will have dinner ready for us. She tells me we are having BBQ and asks if we like BBQ.

I tell her, I live in Memphis, one of the main things Memphis is known for!!!

I can have BBQ every meal if I wanted it, so I hate that she is going to that trouble, but on the other hand, I appreciate her trying to get stuff we like, so I will shut up and eat BBQ this weekend.
