thats right our 9 month old daughter has a music class.... Are you thinking what I thought when I first heard that? 9 months old cant learn music.... Well I am telling you...that was AWESOME!!!...Our good friend started this program for children under school age called the MUSIC TREE... so it is nice to support her in her endeavor, but I was blown away by how fun it is and how interactive these little babies get! All the parents, (I should say Mom's because yep you guessed it I was the only Dad there) sit with their children in a circle and our friend (instructor) leads us through singing to the kids, playing with shakers, sitting the kids in a middle of a multi-coloured parachute and singing to them, dancing around holding them and singing to them...etc.... Anyways this was the first time I took our little lady because Mom had a dentist appoitment....and it was Awesome!!
Ok ok, non Tri related rant over... back to the pool.
Great swim, did a set of 3X100 and banged up a 1:37/100m !!! This is definitely close to the fastest I have ever swam in my life!!! super pumped! I think classes like that rock. We did a baby sign class and they actually do it. Before they could talk I knew if he was hungry because he would do the milk sign. Keep doing it and enjoying every minute. It is kinda weird being the only dad in the room, I was in the same spot, lol. But we need to give our wives some mommy time w/o daddy or baby. Heck they earned it considering the child was in them for 9 long months. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since I'm still working on the pool and relaxing in it do you think my headphones would help me relax even more or derail the entire process? I have a set of Jlab Go waterproofs that are built for this kind of thing. Just making sure it won't hurt the swim. If I forget how many laps I'm at really isn't a big deal at this point so don't care much if I can't remember and keep track. Relaxing is more important to me. IMO it would help me to stop over thinking each and every detail. |

Congrats - and just of where you will be wit another month of training and having completed another of Thor's challenges! The only thing you left out what was type of beer you will be drinking tonight to celebrate your accomplishment! Enjoy every last sip. You earned it! Hi all, Skipped the gym in the morning on monday because I convinced myself I would just go in the afternoon. Ended up not going to the gym afterwork and went home and ate terribly. Before bed I read through the posts from over the last few days. There is a lot of support for people when you have a bad day or give into those weak moments in this group. That support and positivity helped me get up tuesday morning and hit the gym. I just think if they can so can I. I ran my best 5k time (30 min), did the most continuous pushups Ive been able to do in the past few yrs (20 with great form) and then swam 1,100yds all before work. It makes you think life can get in the way and you'll have a bad training/diet day but you can always go tomorrow and make it right. Thanks for the motivation |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dr Alex checking in. Google is either the greatest or worst thing. I believe now the inside knee pain is a common thing, Pes Anserine (Goosefoot) Bursitis, it is the exact spot shown on all pics. All of the factors to get it I did. Overuse, adding miles to soon, improper stretching of the hammy, and the list goes on. It started acting up today again a bit after my swim. Go figure my hammy was tight also. After an initial stretching of the ham the sharpness subsided. I still see the ortho on the 6th but now have more info. It says to keep icing and stretch a few minutes every hour or so to accelerate healing. Still it may take some recovery time but I feel better about it now. I have learned a valuable lesson here: take your time and there are NO shortcuts in life no matter what you are doing! Onward and upward..keep on trucking BDASers. Now time to enjoy my Leffe and stretch before bed ![]() Edited by Burd 2013-02-27 7:26 PM |

As a dad to be that sounds amazing. I cant wait for those days. Not sure if your local gyms have it but when I was in high school I taught swim lessons at our local YMCA. the infant and toddler classes w/parents were pretty fun. a bit terrible because they were at 7am on a saturday for high school kid but the kids and parents had a blast singing songs and kicking and splashing
Great job on the swim! Edited by lp3510 2013-02-28 7:28 AM |

![]() | ![]() Missed the gym this morning but decided it 45degrees out and I need to learn to love running outside. I took a quick mile around the neighborhood at lunch and did pretty good. (9 min 30 sec). Ive been cursed with zero arches and so running outside can be pretty damn painful on my lower back. My running goal this year is to get my treadmill mileage high again and slowly add in miles outdoors until my back and legs are strong enough for the impact. My motivation is to of course get healthy but I must confess its mostly to legitimately beat my wife in a road race. Its getting a bit embarrassing, Im a foot taller than she is. I should win by leg span alone. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think that all of the p90x workouts are hard initially and then get only slightly easier. I had very good success with power 90. That was the origional version. They are good for starting. Not fancy, but effective. They are about 45 minutes in length. Tony Horton is very good at having you stretch prior, during and after. If you have not done much strength stuff, this is a great place to start. I is also cheaper that PT or Chiro. If you have done a lot of wts, then p90x is good. It is pretty intense to do during the tri season. I am using 3-4 videos a week to work on my weaknesses so hopefully I will be back to running. They are about 1 hour each. Depending on my workout the day after will determine how long and how hard I hit it. right now I am using: Core, plyo, legs&back, with stretch on recovery. I may do yoga (which I hated previously) this weekend instead of my long run. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all did a long walk last night with a 5 % incline for 40 minutes and then this afternoon I did my 10k training program where I left off last week. Started the pushup challenge over and did the initial test and got to start higher than before. I have to start getting up again in the morning to go run and workout this week, I seem to feel better during my workout. Thanks BDAS for the pep talks, also I will be better at being on here to do more pep talking back.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Outstaniding work all. amidst it all, we continue on. 6.2 this morning. it was a "slow day", and turned out to be faster than my last "slow day". Some mornings, I just know I don't have it, and it's evidenced by the splits in my miles. Tomorrow should be a "fast day", hopefully. another 6.2 tomorrow morning, then my long 16 on sunday. Broke down/wimped out and went up to trader joe's and got their house brand of hefeweisen. It tastes alot closer to an authentic brew in Germany than alot of the other brewery's. I love it with a few slices of lemmon at just below room temp. mm mmm tasty. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All: Got my workout in the morning with a trip to the pool. I did 800 yards and added 25 minutes of aqua jogging. With my back hurting it was the only chance I had of getting in a run... But I managed to burn 500 calories which will come in handy tonight! I'm off to our monthly beer tasting tonight. The theme is - bring a really tasty beverage that costs less that 5 bucks per bottle. I'm bringing Union Jack by Fire Stone and North Coast Golden Ale. I'm hoping to drink 3 beers max and then come home and grab a bowl of ice cream... That's the promise. How's everyone do with the 28/28 plan? I feel short this month. |

I feel short this month. 28/28 this month, barely. 24 hours on the bike, just short of 300 miles. I can't wait until it gets tolerable and I can start riding outside again. Or until I buy a house so my neighbors don't complain about trainer noise at 5am. Atrocious run mileage, but the swim was pretty solid. Here's to improving in March, and hopefully nice weather. |

Crapola that's a long way. With that kind of distance I would think short running is acceptable right? |

New user![]() | ![]() NAME: Chris Blazek or Blazek STORY: I went on a camping trip with some buddies and during the trip I realized how out of shape I was. My wife and I had 1 son at the time who was probably about 1.5 years old. I needed a break from family life and knew I needed to get some physical activity. I started running around the neighborhood and building my miles and in 5 months ran my first 10k & 1/2 marathon back to back. That summer we got a pool. I kept up the running and signed up for the same event for the 2nd year in a row. I then started training for my first marathon and ran that in Sept of last year. Since then I've gotten a Cannondale bike and have been increasing my saddle time and miles. I have swam on and off since I was 13. FAMILY STATUS: I am married to a wonderfully supportive wife, Amy. We have 2 young boys: Ethan 3 and Andrew 4. I will run a 5k with my boys in March. CURRENT TRAINING: Currently running a mixture of road and trail. I'm putting in about 18-25 miles a week. I'm biking about 30-40 miles a week on a trainer during the winter months. The only time I've used a training program was when I was preparing for the marathon. I love to just go outdoors and push myself. THIS YEAR'S RACES: This past weekend I ran the Ft. Worth Cowtown 10k & 1/2 marathon with PRs in both. I have signed up for a 5k that I will run with my boys and I'm running monthly races with a local running club. I will run the Willie McCool 1/2 marathon in April. I have signed up for my first tri, the sprint Milkman Tri in NM in June. I plan on signing up for the olympic distance, Easy Rider Tri in Lubbock, TX at the end of June. Going off how I feel after my first 2 tris I will either sign up for the Austin 1/2 IM or run the Panhandle Marathon. I have a group of friends that are gun ho on the Austin 1/2. BEER PREFERENCE: I was told this weekend that I drink a lot of beer WEIGHT LOSS: Since I started running after the camping trip I've lost roughly 55 lbs. I'm sitting around 155 and have maintained that for almost a year. I stick with natural foods and fish. I've cut down on the amount of red meat I eat and have completely cut out anything fried. I didn't realize I was overweight when I started until I compared what I look like now with my driver's lic. I appreciate the groups support. I know I'll have a million questions and can learn a lot from the group's veterans. I love the spirit of the individuals that participate in endurance sports. Cheers! |
