Lunchtime driveby.  So much meaningful conversation going on here, so little time to respond.  Good thing I'm not working out this afternoon.  I'll play catchup then

aspeelma - 2009-10-06 3:17 AM GOOD MORNING GHOULIES!!!!

I hope everyone got a good nights sleep! AND has great runs today!

I have 3 miles planned for later today and the weather should be perfect here for it.

LET'S GO GHOULIES!!!

spooktacular! way to get that run in! and I want to know what is perfect weather to you??? me its mid to upper 70's...with sunny skies!

It is supposed to be low 70's and sunny today. For me that is not too hot, and not too cold, it's juuuuuuusst right!

No bragging.  I won't see 70's again until next May or when I travel for work to my warm locals during the winter months.  It was 45 this morning for my ride to work.  Pretty bad when I was excited because that is going to be warm in 3 months!

ok got ya beat...my dh rides EVERY day to work...come rain, sleet, cold...today he took off and it was 39 degrees! brrrrrrrrrr and he wonders why I dont get up and ride with him! does my nice warm bed, crackling fire going in the fireplace and my nice hot cup of java maybe have lots to do with it!???

YUP INDEED! now I will go and meet him after work for rides! by then Im warm!

See we have a little snow thrown in which causes ice also or I would ride a lot more often.

How far is his commute?  I end up around 38 for the round trip unless I add some on.

its only 2 miles each way...but he throws in at least an additional 20 miles each way! he leaves an hour to hour and half early to do so...he heads for the hills...and does some climbing and then back to his work. His jeep sits in the driveway...calling his name! I think in the past 15 years he has driven only a hand full of times...and usually its because he has a meeting in San Francisco or Oakland and doesnt want to take public transportation such as bart or caltrain. 19 miles each way is nothing to sneeze at! is yours lots of heavy road traffic or do you have a path or neighborhood streets?

Great report! Keep it up with your training, and next time make sure you get pics of the pace booty! You know, to help inspire you for the next race and stuff...

sure Tom...thats why you want that pace booty picture!!! haha

I am of pure heart, and I'm only trying to make sure Neal has ample training motivation. I swear!

but of course!

kromanowski - 2009-10-06 9:34 AM Question of the Day: Does anyone else have a mental block when it comes to going beyond a certain distance?  And if you did and have pushed past it how did you do it?

Mine is the 6 mile mark...I am fine running 5 miles, 6 miles I have done once or twice and am reasonably ok but I (mentally) freak out when I think about doing anything more...I have never gone further than six.

GREAT question KATIE.

mine is 26.2.  ive been able to bring myself to contemplate running a full marathon.

last year i ran a half.  and finished w a smile on my face.

and considered what it would be like to 'have to' go another 13.1 miles.

i thought, naw, i dont think i would ever want to do that.

i will do a 1/2 IM before i do a full marathon.  theres just something not 'appealing' about that distance...for me.  (same with a full IM)

and ive decided that im not gonna 'push past it'.

if somewhere internally (for whatever the reason) ive decided a full marathon is not for me, then i figure why 'fight it'.

perhaps there will come a time when that'll change, and im completely open to that.

but for now...im content w trng for halfsies and contemplating a 1/2 IM.

stacieb

Sounds like my sentiments exactly! my brother is an IM...my daughter and niece will be racing in an IM in November...and I have no inkling to do one! very motivational for me to go bike and run...but not those absurdly long distances! not even in perfect conditions and flat course! hey, I too am considering a HIM! is there one half way in between us! what a hoot it would be to race with you! the mileage would zoom by! haha

Could you imagine the chatter from that 2-some on the HIM course?  Might get in trouble for drafting or using radios for communication on the ride

Kansas would work for you guys!

kansas? sounds doable....this is one state I have never visited. and I have lived in 40 of the 52 states! and no, Im not an army brat.

do we follow a yellow brick road??? and should I dress in red sparkly running shoes???

on a really TRULY sad note...the girl I saw who was being given CPR at the half marathon on Sunday...died! as did another fellow that made it to just 50 yards from the finishing shoot and he also collapsed and died.

was on the news this morning...and in the paper yesterday...

cant believe some of the stupid comments being made by some non runners....please keep the families in your prayers and thoughts. Rumor has it that the guys family saw the entire collapse and death! She was 34 and he was 35!?!? WTF???

Wow - that stinks.

Umm yes you can die from exercise but you can also more expectantly die from lack of exercise as well.  People just need to be thoughtful to the family - not always voice an opinion.

Will definitely keep them all in prayer!

it has to be kids...they say things like...stupid runners...long distances are not to be messed with...now I can go back to my coke and chips near the sofa!! just rude! do they not realize the parents or family member will probably read them! SHAMEFUL! surprise the paper doesnt pull some of the posts! or can they????
