kaburns1214 - 2012-06-02 7:19 AM I was supposed to race the Rev 3 Olympic today but after a really long week at work and nasty cold, wind and rain this morning I decided I really didn't want to race.  No fun doing a super-technical bike course in the pouring rain.

That sucks I hope you feel better.

Wasn't super excited abut racing in the first place.  Once it stops raining, I'll head out for a hard brick.

I did the Lake T weeknight Sprint Tri series on Thursday night. This runs every other Thursday and is a great training event for a Thursday night. From ironmen to first timers show up. They had 170 show up Thursday.. By summer they get 250+. they set the swim at 825 per the GPS. Was supposed to be 500 yards and then each week they increase. Felt bad for some of the first timers that saw how far out the buoy was. Anyway, with only 6 swim sessions under my belt in 2012, my swim freaking blows. I really need to work on that. Out of 170 my swim was ranked 101. Ouch. But one positive thing about swimming so poorly is you get to chase people down. Bike ranked 50th and run ranked 22nd. So needless to say I caught a lot of people. Not what I want to have to do all the time, so I really need to work on that swim. Swim, 2:07 pace (included transition though, they don't give 5 splits for this event)Bike 19.6 paceRun 6:54 pace

The PMC Century was today. They went by my house which is only about mile 30 and it's just pouring and the wind is howling. They didn't look happy. We went out for breakfast and drove by a couple dozen of riders and I wanted to offer them something to aid their misery but there really isn't anything you can do. At least they had wet gear on. I did an Olympic last year in identical weather and didn't have sleeves or gloves and I was frozen. I'm sure their feet are going to be pretty cold and wet.

That sounds like a cool series, I wish they had something like that around.  6:54/mile running - nice!

I don't blame you Kelly, racing on a bike in the rain sucks!  I used to not be bothered too much by rain, running I could care less, but on the bike I now am a big wuss.  I guess it's the crash I had a few years ago in the rain, but it didn't bother me until recently.  Just doing a ride in the rain on hills is bad enough, but to race, no thanks!

I swapped my long bike and run days this weekend because I'm doing a crazy 100 mile charity ride tomorrow with a bunch of friends.  10 loops of 10 hilly miles.  So I ran today, just a little over 10 miles and felt great!  I love runs that feel effortless (which is pretty rare for me) and today was one of those days.  It's nice and cool today, low humidity, so I'm sure that played into it, but it was just a great run.

Now tomorrow when I'm on bike loop 7 or 8, I probably won't feel so strong.

Forgot - I was reading something the other day, don't remember what, but it was about nutrition, vitamins, etc.  Bee pollen was mentioned as something to help with allergies.  Has anyone tried it, had any good results, or think it's non sense.  I'm willing to try anything.  I have never had problems with allergies, but the last couple of years I feel like I'm constantly having to blow my nose, over and over and over again.  (Maybe I'm allergic to our dogs?? Surprised)  I tried all the over the counter stuff, mucinex seems to work the best, but I feel so dehydrated when I take it so I try not to.

Anyway, wondered if bee pollen was worth a try.

RockTractor swears by bee pollen. He told me he started getting it and eating a spoonful each day and it's helped his allergies a bunch. I think you have to get it locally (so it's in tune with the local allergies I guess).

Yuck - Can't blame you. We had terrible storms last night - I thought they would get to CT with bad timing for this race today. Better to stay safe and put your effort on the next race!

Good luck tomorrow!! Hope the weather holds out and is beautiful like it was today for you!

There is definitely something to be said for bee pollen. Get some local honey and take a teaspoon daily. We are doing this with my husband and son now. Everyone we talk to says  positive things!

My son did a duathlon today! He got caught in a pile up at the beginning of the race - About 6 kids fell on top of one another. He didn't realize he had scraped his knee until after the race. He is a true MOP'er like his mama!! LOL

He had a blast and wants to know when he can do another!

Everyone has both feet off the ground at some point during their run stride -- that's the difference between running and race walking.

Fantastic pictures Michele.

I've had one race photo where both my feet were in the air, I should have ordered that darn thing! All others I'm shuffling along as usual.

I suppose I do...

I passed my first state exam today to get my insurance license. One more test and I'll be an appointed agent. My stress level is WAY lower after I passed, thankfully.

Up early and headed off to Quassy to volunteer for the day.  I'm bringing the good camera and hoping to get some nice pictures of the pros.

Off to my ride, wish me luck! The host has kegs of home brewed beer & Boston butt waiting for us when we finish. My husband also has a nice keg of hefeweizen he brewed. (not sure the Boston butt is motivation, but the cold beer sure is.)
