How's everyone do with the 28/28 plan?  I feel short this month.

28/28 this month, barely.  24 hours on the bike, just short of 300 miles.  I can't wait until it gets tolerable and I can start riding outside again.  Or until I buy a house so my neighbors don't complain about trainer noise at 5am.  Atrocious run mileage, but the swim was pretty solid.

Here's to improving in March, and hopefully nice weather.

300 miles in February - that is BEASTLY!  Yesterday - I saw a guy out on on his bike - he was the first rider this year.  And while he was clearly freezing his a$$ off, he was loving every minute of it.  Spring is coming!

Justinfss great job to the 230 mark. Strength workout this morning, and a walk. I am going to change up the workout to more body weight workouts and less weights.

justinfss - 2013-02-28 11:15 PM Well no exercise today but.... I cracked the 230 egg, 229.2 this morning, got to keep that needle falling! But I was pretty happy with that.

Congrats on the weight loss. A well deserved day off.

got to the gym this am. did a 5k @ 29.40min. and then only 500yds in the pool. Legs and back are hurting a bit from running outside yesterday. Going to try adding in the p90 core, stretch and yoga dvds into my plan. Im hoping if I lose enough weight and strengthen my core I can get my miles up outside.

good luck today!

Nice job on the weight loss Justin. Must be from hunting for buffalo...

David, have you ever tried banana whip? Take a ripe banana, peel, cut into small pieces and freeze. Put it in food processor and add liquid until like soft ice cream. add favourite topping. Amazingly like soft serve ice cream.

Lenny, stay consistent and you will begin to see results in weight loss and better workouts!

Charles nice job on the cycling!

Kevin, Trader joe=cheap beer that ain't to bad. Lemon...wouldn't that make it a fruit beer now? Laughing

Chris, welcome to the group! At least you didn't list fruit beers...just kidding David!

27/28 day February challenge-FAIL 26/28

Pushup challenge-FAIL

Need to remedy the situation with restarting pushups Monday. How is everyone else doing?

For all the other pushup failures, i propose a M-W-F schedule. Find a time to do it on those days and have a checkin on this forum!

March challenge could be a challenge for me with holidays....but what the heck, got to get it done!

Silly cold and rainy weather.  Pool closed yesterday and today.  May open Monday if it hits 70 or better.  Taking it easy on the knee still until ortho apt on Wed.  Who knew you could get so excited about going to the doctor, lol.  As long as he fixes me and says when I can get back at it.

Wanted to share this guys video.  I watch this at least every other day if not more.  Gets the motivation flowing.  Here it is.  Whats everyone have planned for the weekend?  I picked up 6 different Hefe Weizen to taste (can I charge to insurance claiming rehab properties?)  Need to find that youth I had when over there.

Burd Burd Burd... Burd is the word... My heart breaks that it was too cold for the pool to open today... Why don't you come north - I got a nice snow drift you could ice your knee in (and chill those hefe's in as wellWink)

Love the video- my favorite part was watching that guy Go Thor on that rowing machine!

?All right Thor - You and I both fell short on the 27/28 challenge.  Here is my personal challenge to you.  During the month of March, I pledge to work out for 30 minutes at least 30 times (30/31 Challenge).  If I fail = warm coors light is the only beer I will drink for a week.  If you fail = warm fruit beer is the only thing you can drink for a week.  You in?  Who is with me?

It's a rest day for me... My back continues to feel better and I hope that the rest will allow me to get a bike in tomorrow and a run in on Sunday.

It's the start of the month.  I think it's great that so many of us post our goals on the forum but it's always good to start the month with the big picture in mind.  Give some thought to creating monthly goals and posting them on your training log.  Then figure out what you need to do each week to get there.  You can make huge gains in 30 days.  Here are my monthly goals:

  • Continue Program
    • http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=38
    • 30 workouts
    • 3 runs,
      • stride length
    • 2 swims
      • improve stroke
    • 2 bikes
      • Work to avoid pain with plumbing
      • Schedule a bike fitting
    • Be ready to begin 20 week HIM training in April
  •  Lose 1.5 pounds a week = 7 LBS
    • recording my calories
    • Weighins weekly
  • Avoid injury so I miss no more than 3 tri workouts
    • Yoga 1 hour per week
    • Explore Yin Yoga
    • Stretch 30 times for at least 15 minutes
    • Ice 30 times
  • Sign up for races
    • Mark Mellon Oly
    • Rev 3 Maine
    • Chilly Half Marathon
  • Support my fellow BTers
  • Frame picture from HIM

I'm in.  I only petition the BDAS that I may make mine a pace orientated goal as I pledge to get back to 7:20 or below minute miles sustained over my 6.2 or 8.2 mile runs.  (this was pace prior to ruining hip playing hockey, currently running an 8:00/mi pace at those distances)  I will come close to 30/31, but difficult to do when only running distance as I tend to need 2 days rest most weeks.  If I fail, I will succomb to a shock top raspberry 6 pk. for a week.

I am in for the 30/31.

I had a great swim yesterday with a wee bit of aqua jogging. Just hit p90x shoulders/arms, followed by 200 strokes on the rowing machine (first time in a lone time) and then 35 pushups.

Not running is driving me crazy. Week one of ITB healing almost done. It feels good to hit the weights.

Getting ready to enjoy some nice local IPA's tonight.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I highly doubt I will make the 30/31 by swimming alone.  Unless the doc says cycling is ok I'm dead in the water.  I will however try to make 4-5 days a week in the pool.

Well fail for me on both challenges last month 24/28 and only one week of the push up program.  The push up program I knew at the beginning of the month was a no go from the beginning. I thought I was going to make the 27/28 but last Tuesday got hit with a heck of a cold and have been out since.  Hoping to get some bike and run in this weekend, but I need to get rid of this cold first!

March 2013 - Goals

  • Maintain cycling program
  • Run at least twice weekly
  • Swim at least twice weekly

In a nice perk for me, I bought a pair of jeans today, with a 32" waist.  I long ago tossed away a pair of 54" (back when I started), and seeing that 32" is a wonderful sign.

House-hunting is going terribly right now.  In the last week, I've withdrawn two offers due to garbage real estate brokers.  There's a lot of really bad agents out there.

Personal stress is pretty high right now.

Good job on the 32 jeans mirthfuldragon! I changed up the training. In april I have a 5k, and was doing a 10k training plan, my legs were killing me!!!  I am changing to the 5k program, and focus 3x a week on running, and bike on my spin bike after (I miss biking), and stength 2x week. Then up my running volume up after the 5k for the tough mudder. I need focus (sometimes a problem)on upcoming goals, finish that and then move to the next. Good job everyone and keep up the good work.

Holy cr@p - shock top??? That's what you think of when I say fruit beer?  I'd rather eat my own toe nails... With that kind of incentive - you might break the 4 minute mile mark!Wink

Alex - Give yourself a number to shoot for.  If you factor in 4x a week of swimming + some walking or aqua jogging + some yoga.  How many workouts does that equal?  Set it so you can achieve it!

Good luck!

Charles - Nice job of posting the goals for the month!  If you crack off another 300 miles and throw in the swim and the bike - you are gonna have a KILLER month!  A big congrats on getting into a size 32 wait.  Is that what you were wearing when you graduated from high school?  As for the house hunting - the next person that messes with you needs to wear those size 54 pants for a week.  Wink

Keep up the great work!

Hey everyone

This week has been a disaster, except for one good run, I want the do over too. Our house has had the flu, I have worked a crazy amount of hours, and had a bunch of family, no push ups. Well enough of the excuses for me,  I have to get back on track starting tomorrow!!!! Eating strict Paleo again to hit 230, starting over on the pushup challenge, and doing a make up run tomorrow. Hope everyone gets better or is better.

Ian

Sorry that you had such a rough week last week.  We seem to be experiencing the same Karma...

A bunch of us have mentioned in recent posts that we want to have a "do over" (a sentiment that I can certainly understand and which I sometimes share) but I'd like for us all to be aware of the challenges we are all facing and be willing to cut ourselves some slack because of those challenges.  Some of us have been injured or sick and it's hard to train when we aren't feeling 100%.  Plus, as parents we all face our own challenges which can make getting those workouts in difficult.  And finally - there are the other parts of our lives that we can't control - like work - that can make life $uck.

So maybe instead of asking for a do over, we should all give ourselves the credit we deserve for the changes we have made in the past despite those challenges and press on towards our goals.  The fact that we are rededicating ourselves to improve our fitness is something we should be proud of!

Onward!

For me, I needed the grace of a do over  and the free pass of a do over...remember when you were a kid, you called, "do over" and the slate would be wiped clean? No beating yourself up but a chance to pick yourself up, shake it off and do it,(whatever it was) and do it better.  In my case, adjusting to a new but exciting adventure; I was given the honor of becoming the advisor for a sorority, Sigma Beta Phi!

Sounds like a good plan!  Make no sense to get injured before your first race!  3x a week will do you just right!

Thanks for all the support you are giving other BDAS members.  Keep it up!
