Had a good day so I thought I would share...l It started off with a nasty ride into a 30kph headwind but my swimmy after was actually pretty good! Felt fast and capable today and actually had to move over to the fast lane cause I was running over everyone in the medium lane!. This decreased stroke count thingy is getting easier...... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you all for the answers and inspires. We did our little practice day yesterday, and it was good. (after we survived HAIL putting up our tent!) The wetsuit went on and came off fairly easily. The lake was COLD, but not unbearable. For curiosity's sake I looked it up, and it was 65. the suit was comfortable, and I'm much less worried about that part. We then went back up to the campsite, changed out, got our bikes, and took off. 9 in our group. I stayed with the first 30r 4 for the first 41 miles. This is new for me, I'm usually at the back of the pack. We were pretty spread out, but we waited 3 times at major intersections for the group to catch up. Then we hit the Nasty Grade, and it lived up to it's name and reputation! I struggled, big time. Dropped to number 8, and Jeff had to circle back for me twice. I HATE feeling like this. Finished up at 7th, but frustrated. It was a hard ride. I stopped my garmin when we stopped, and we only did 54 miles because we went back to our campsite, not the marina, but it took 3:34 - longer than I'd hoped. Then we ran. The plan was for One of they guys to do the whole 13 mile loop, with our son. Jeff would do the first have with them, and I'd do the second. Well, Zach pooped out, so he only did the first half, which is apparently the much tougher one. I came in at the 6 miles point and finished in 54 minutes. Race day is going to be interesting, but I feel a bit more comfortable knowing what to expect. Next I'm going to practice transitions in my driveway!! Also, Judi or anyone else....wher can I get Oomph shorts? and do you or anyone else use body butter or anything else? I'm chafing for the first time. Linda ![]() |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Linda, Awesome practice day!! I have never heard of Oomph shorts...will try a google search later. Body glide or butt butt'r can be purchased at the LBS o on line. I actually searched that out last week on line. Found a place where it's pretty cheap. My riding friend Susan told me not to get the butt butt'r though...she thinks it will make my keester problems worse. I don't know...even underwear hurts right now. Can't be much worse than that!

Linda ![]() Linda great training and super paces on a really tough course. Great mental boost to train on the course and know what to expect. Oomph shorts you can buy directly from them, trisports.com has some smaller sizes on great clearance price if you do a search, and Hannuick (sp?) carries them as well. I'd recommend the ones that have distance pad in them. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I need a nutritional KICK IN THE PANTS... also some tips on eating for the days I do long workouts and 2 a days... Im not getting it right but I dont know what to do... also now my long rides are getting longer Im guessing perhaps my current strategy of water and occassionally a bit of gatorade/eelctrolytes isnt really the best... Ive been all over the place for TOO LONG! My biggest problem is I have read all sorts of recommendations and ideas and Im still yet to find a routine that works for me. And yes I need a routine... I need it to be simple, require minimal effort... I need to be able to get home from training at 8pm during the week and EAT straight away so I can get to bed. Oh and I need things that are easy and grabable so I stop buying breakfast and lunch everyday... its costing me a small fortune!
Does anyone have any advice on how they structure their day? Time their eating? Work out what they should be eating? Im pretty sure yesterdays diet of cupcakes, rockyroad, coffee, chips etc isnt good eating for starters |

Only buy breakfast post swim. I pack lunch almost every day. Keep it varied. Some form of salad, fruit ...a sandwich or Kashi entree. Soup--sometimes I buy it and sometimes I bring it with me. |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My quandry....I swam in my wetsuit tonight for the first time in about a year. It's a medium xcel (not tri specific) and felt too big on me. I could literally feel he "balloon" of air between the suit and me like it was dragging me. I can borrow Jen's wetsuit but it's a large xterra so if a medium feels too big (literally hiking it up several times throughout the swim) won't Jen's be way too big? |

Lol a lot of those food I dont have here... no fig newtons We have these little hard pretzel things that are like potato chips.. well kind of... and I do love jelly lollies Fruits good I LOVE fruit... I think that is my saving grace right now!!! Soup for dinner in particular sounds awesome... heat and eat with some bread! (is it bad I wouldnt be getting any protein?) Packing lunch - the hardest thing I find is remembering to grab it at 5am but we do have a fridge at work - maybe I could bring stuff in on a MOnday and then its here for the week? The other problem Ive had with lunches is other people in the house eating my food so I have nothing left after the first few days so that might be a good solution... not that hard to have a loaf of bread and some spread (breakfast) already in the office. I guess for lunch some salad ingredients and maybe some meat or something. No freezer or I could do those little healthy frozen pasta meals... Thanks Judi... at least Im starting to think!!! |

Does anyone have any advice on how they structure their day? Time their eating? Work out what they should be eating? Im pretty sure yesterdays diet of cupcakes, rockyroad, coffee, chips etc isnt good eating for starters Easter has sent my eating off the rails- especially since I started buying peanutbutter eggs to have around 3-4 weeks ago! My ideas are: I almost always have the same breakfast- i cook up a big batch of steel cut oatmeal and leave it in the fridge. For breakfast I microwave some along with walnuts and blueberries and add very small amount of maple syrup for sweetness. The carbs would help with all your training. Another good trick to to cook up some extra chicken to have around to add to a salad or even to ready-made soup. It brings up your protein intake nicely. I also have a bag of frozen shrimp around so I can thaw a few out and add it too something else like soup/salad as well. I also love eggs- they are fast and you can eat them anytime. I watch my cholesterol but find that a few eggs a week hasn't been all that bad, particularly if I am not eating a lot of red meat/sausage type stuff. I am sure that KathyG will have some good advice about the eating while riding/ training. Maybe we will have to have a eat right challenge in MAy! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm a fan of goldfish crackers and pretzels on the bike. They are fast carbs and they help cut the sweet. I also like peanut butter and a banana mash on whole wheat. I mash the bananas up and spread them on on side of the bread with peanut butter on the other. |

![]() | ![]() i second the 'eat right in May' challenge idea! my new job has me running around all day with little to no time to eat - if anyone has seen the movie The Devil Wears Prada will have an idea of what my days are like: I am an assistant to a very hi-end interior designer - and she doesn't eat! I've stashed granola bars in my bag and that was my lunch AND afternoon snack today - NOT GOOD! but i'm learning alot and fingers crossed - i'll be making some pretty good coin! ![]() i haven't had rice cakes in ages - and yes the apple cinnamon are yummy!
