ironannekidd - 2010-08-13 8:08 AM Hello Ghoulies. I am not going to be around much today. Right after I got to work I got a call from home. My BIL and his family are in NC visiting my SIL's family. They have 3 horses, the horeses got out last night and one was hit by a van. The people in the van are ok. The horse broke it's leg among other damage and had to be put down.

I came home immediately. Right now I just finished getting breakfast ready for the kids. Next we are going to go fix fence and clean up the mess in the barn while my husband and father in law go bury the horse.

I'll talk to you all later.

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear this.  Best of luck with everything!

mndymond - 2010-08-13 9:27 AM Haha. I actually kind of make sense!

You sound surprised!

I am surprised. I tend to be a rambler. Ramble ramble ramble. I only repeated myself once and in general I was concise.

I was one of those people who had a really hard time confining papers to page limits. The amount of time I spend editing some of my physiology papers...unnecessary. Haha. History papers were even worse. I had to write a paper on Heinrich Himmler being responsible for the Holocaust and not Hitler in a German history class...it was only allowed to be 5 pages! Yell So so difficult for me. Haha.

Well it has gone 100% back to his A## is playing and he is going to enjoy every moment of it - just like Vacation!!! and Wally World

The little s&&& played me for a fool and I am going to put a world class beat down on him this weekend (j/k) but he will be at practice tonight and the rest of the season.  If he doesn't want to play I don't care - but he will be at every practice!!!

Thanks Ghoulies!

Since you said that...I will also add:

It was always a challenge to my brother from my Dad to "step up" and be a leader with the guys. Some of them were disrespectful little twits, but my brother was a good player and put effort in and they tended to listen to him when he told them to smarten up and listen to the coach. Not really a big surprise coming from my Dad...being a Sgt then WO and all...haha...but something else to add character I guess?

Last year when they were goofing around on the sideline I would pull him off to the side and tell him he will get alot further in life not hanging around with kids like that and to just stay off to the side and listen to the coach.

These kids are beyond that - the coaches don't even tell them to shut up so they are not going to listen to a teammate!

It all goes back to parenting - you are a good egg because your father demanded stuff from you Melindy.  I am a bad egg because my parents didn't but I am going to reverse that and Jake will be a good egg because I will demand stuff from him - make sense?

OMG Bill you are my DAD!! Haha. From the dishes to this ^^^

Okay...I'll give you that they won't listen to a teammate...especially at that age. My brother was a bit older 15-16 when the step up stuff started. Even in swimming...I don't think we started to really listen to one another until that age. Every now and then the "guys, come on, get with it" comment came out....I think everyone ended up doing it at some point and everyone was on the receiving end of it. Discipline was huge with swimming--focus, focus, work hard, be disciplined and focus some more. Discipline was also HUGE with my parents.

Oh strict parents. You think I am a good egg Bill. Awww shucks Embarassed

He will have some stories to share with you when he gets older - LOL

Hahahaha. My Mom was actually always the one who always got me up...at 430am from M-F and at 6am on Sat. My parents actually did things independently (word choice is probably wrong)...but my Mom had me and swimming and my Dad had my brother and hockey. My Mom definately got the short end of the stick out of that deal. 9 practices a week...swim meets on weekends...My brother had maybe 2-3 practices a week and maybe 2 games on the weekend, with the exception of Tournaments. My Dad HATED driving me to morning practice when he had to haha. It was my own personal torture device--yes Dad, drive me to practice at 430am! Bahahaha!...

Last day in the lab!!! AH!!!

I was talking to my friend last night about Vegas. We both have our number 1 priority as SHOPPING!! (its funny...because neither of us are really "shoppers"...) Need to reign myself in (1 luxury item--haven't decided what it will be yet--shoes? purse? jacket?). Haha. Need to take inventory of my closet when I get home. We have decided to have more of a spontaneous vacation I think. Maybe plan a few things and just let things flow for the rest. VIVA!

Vote for your choice of luxury item: a) shoes, b) purse, c) jacket, d) other...

This is my next week: go home, team physl reunion, indian food buffet, friends/friends/friends, VEGAS! NO WORK!!!!!

And then school...but I am actually starting to get excited to return. I got an official confirmation this morning that I am officially registered for 2010-2011 in my second year of medicine. YA! Haha. 8 more years!

I agree with all but Tri, and the 2 skiings

Our kids were in to kayaking, rock climbing, outdoor orienteering, winter camping. The girl even tried mushing one winter. (Thank goodness that was a camp, no purchase necessary). Not so much the team sports with regular practices just huge expenses and acute worry.

Have 3 friends who used to x country ski--1 went to the olympics in 06 for biathlon, 2 were normal x country. $$$$$ and early mornings. Haha. Between coaching, trips, competition...of course everything tends to increase the better you are...and all 3 (well dude who went to the olympics obviously) were good.

Downhill--also expensive. Don`t know too many people who did it competitively though.

Triathlon--I know what I have spent on triathlon...and I had most of the stuff beforehand...and I know what time people swim/bike and run at. Haha.

Melindy - you rock

You know olympic caliber athletes in biathlon????????  That is awesome.

We don't have it competitively around here but downhill is but our season is so sporadic it isn't worth it - now if we lived back home in Colorado - definitely

I drove my wife nuts with Biathlon during the last winter Olympics.  It is the one winter sport that I wish I could have done.

Then again, I'm a winter Olympics junky.  Our TiVo was nearly smoking from trying to record everything.

Around here, I'd add hockey to that list.  Back in Maine, it seemed like there was a rink every half an hour or so from each other.  The further south I have gotten, the farther, more expensive and more extreme the ice times are.  I can remember 7 AM practices as a kid but around here they have to do them at 5 AM or 10 PM.  ACK!

I do know Olympic caliber athletes...Its freaking awesome! Haha. His name is David. He is in my class--well he is in dentistry but still in my class. Haha. He is in my anatomy group. So awesome! Haha. He didn't place or anything, but I found out and almost died. I try really hard not to bring up the Olympics and ask him 10000000 questions in anatomy...and in the hallway...and in the med lounge...

Hee hee - my mother and father split my sports.  Mom was hockey, dad was baseball and mom was MUCH tougher.  I remember the year we could start checking.  Becuase I was so big (and slow) compared to the other kids, she was annoyed that I wasn't hitting anyone.  She took me into the attic and insulted me until I knocked her on her behind and under an old table we had up there.  After the look of shock wore off, she got up cheering.  My father was white as a sheet because she had nearly smashed her head into the table.

Up and downs, squats with no weights, shooting on a plastic sheet until my arms hurt...yep, she was the one you would have thought was in the military.

Crazy parent stories are the best - you must give you son lots of them!!

Note to self - do not let kids do swim team!! - LOL

Melissa's list of sports to not let your children do:

Swimming - NO SHOT
Rowing - NO SHOT
Gymnastics - TOO OLD
Triathlon - WHY NOT?
Sailing - TOO POOR
Cross country skiing - REALLY?
Downhill skiing - REALLY?

Haha. Well just joking of course. But all of the above have early mornings or excessive costs associated...haha. There are more...I just have to think of them. LOL

I agree with all but Tri, and the 2 skiings

ACK!

Hockey sucks for those late night practices....1130pm...ummm? no thanks...haha

Melissa's do not let your kids do these sports list (revised):

Do not let your kids do any sports competitively.
Do not let your kids do extreme sports.

The End. Haha.

(I am a true advocate of sports...so I am basically full of it by saying these things...I like sports...in general all sports...hockey and I have beefs sometimes though...)
