Has anyone else not done their 100 mile ride yet on their bike?

Oh no, not yet here.
I have a 4-hour ride planned this weekend, might go longer but not 100 miles yet.

Sprint tri went well this past saturday (1/2m swim/17m bike/5m run). I placed 1st in my age group (20-24). The course was really hilly but was super fun.

Has anyone else not done their 100 mile ride yet on their bike?

I haven't done a 100 miler yet either. Yesterday was my longest so far at 68 miles with over 4000 feet of climbing. I live right at the edge of the Appalachians so it's usually a hilly ride. Go for training, for a high average speed. I ended up with a 4 hour ride at 16.8 mph average. That was immediately followed with a 6 mile run. I won't be up to 100 mile rides for about three more weeks.

The 165 mile ride I did wasn't really at training pace the whole time. It was an organized ride that we joined and we did take take a few rest stops along the way. Still nice to know that 112 miles is very doable. Also .... zero hills on that route .... it was flat as a pancake.

Cube- Thanks for the good words. I paid for that one with my Achilles. I'm still working on it though. I would feel the same way you are about volume if I were you, BUT I would also bet good money, if I were the gambling type, that your coach knows what he's doing.

Peter- That would be cool to ride in the mountains. We have hills, but mountains...not-so-much.

All-Really, from what I can tell, everyone seems to be advancing through training pretty darn well. Good work!

Fesslern-Good post.  I have been lurking around this site for awhile as I get ready to give it a go in August.   My longest bike has been 4 hours per the Fink Intermediate program, that projected out to around 75 miles for me.   I think I am going to push it out to around 85 this Saturday-I did a half iron last weekend.  I will try my first 100 the next week.

One other thought-anyone else's spouses seem like they are secretly filling out divorce papers at this point.  They don't tell you that in any of the training programs.

I mentioned in an early post that I had a quote that I would find relating to how I approach the run. it really addresses how I approach triathlon. There is another quote after it that I like as well.

In 2007 I was training for Ironman Wisconsin, and I came across this article in Running Times Magazine. It really struck home as I recalled my previous marathon experience, and I thought I might be able to draw strength from it when I attempted my first Ironman. I revised it a little to be more applicable to triathlon, rather than just running and it goes like this...

The things to pay attention to are those you can do in the now, such as swim stroke, pedal stroke, running stride; being a swimmer; a cyclist; a runner.
Don't worry about reaching the finish line: Focus on the next buoy, the next mile marker, or the next corner, mailbox, or however far you can comfortably imagine.
The only way you can operate is in the moment. if you can put all your energy into that, then you can find that each of those moments lead to good things."

Another quote that I found from the same source is fitting for me, and other injury prone athletes...

"Life gives you only so many races, and I'll take each one I get, make the most of it, and not complain. You never know when you'll get another."

detscourt- Welcome!

Anyone-If you are having concerns about your relationships during this time, I suggest considering putting time/energy/effort into your emotional bank account for when you need to make withdraws. In doing this, you may find your spouse/signficant other more forgiving.

For example, every opportunity you have to help around the house (dishes, laundry, cleaning, etc.), do it. Hug your spouse/signifcant other daily. Thank her/him every single time you workout, for the opportunity to train while s/he holds down the fort. Be sure to assist with taking care of the children as often as possible. Discuss with your significant other at the beginning of the week what they would like to accomplish. Tell/show her/him what your schedule calls for. Then do everything you can to make sure s/he gets to do what s/he wants to do, and work your training around it the best you can. Talk each night about the next day's plans to confirm/remind her/him of what s/he wants to do, and confirm/remind her/him of what you need to do, and when. I've found that the more I do the above, the better off I am when it comes to me time. Having said that, I have a very supportive (marathon running) wife, as it is. Is it always roses, bowls of blueberries, and rainbows? No, but it's better than a constant struggle. Good luck!

I sent the wife and son down to Atlanta (3 weeks) and Destin (1 week) with friends and family.  I don't suspect I will be getting divorce papers.  She has studied my training schedule and knows what to expect these last 10 weeks

I did an 80 mile ride Saturday, but it should be noted that I had a 30 minute unintended break after the first 30 miles.  Long story (Why did I carry my phone on this ride?).  Thankfully it didn't involve angry motorist like some of you came across.  Boo on them.

Yesterday I ran a little over 14 miles.  Felt great.  I think the Be Iron Fit plan is working for me.  I'm not getting in all the swims, and all the bricks, but otherwise it is going well.

but I'm still nervous and I like that.  The nerves give me the motivation to keep training.

This Sunday I'm doing the Wells Fargo HIM in Morgantown, WV. I originally picked this because it would be relatively close to home and a sort of hilly bike.

Well last week I get an email from them saying there was a landslide and the bike route was altered. Good news is more scenary, bad news is a climb near the beginning with a 7% grade for a while. To boot its a two lap out and back so I can enjoy the climb twice. Mercifully it's a flat run along the river.

At least I can enjoy the mini taper week per the BIF plan. Saturday I'll only have a 15 min bike and 20 min run. The kids won't know what to do with me at home all day!!

Everyone: Great training folks.
I've done 3x 90mile rides and one 103mile ride. The longer rides were bricks. I'm in first build cycle. I'm slowly getting nutrition down with these longer rides+runs. Will be going lower volumes with more intensity in the next few weeks. Need more time at race power.
I plan to do July 10th iamtri ride on Louis. course. I'm interested in seeing if my training route at home with 2500ft gain(one cat4, 4 cat5 climbs) is adequate of race preparation.

Also, I'm building a new deck for the wife...At least that's what I'm telling her. She's off to beach this weekend and I'm playing Mr. Mom for kids' activities. Can you say workouts at 3am?!

Finally had a "hot" weather ride, albeit, only 32 miles, it was still 90', w/ a claimed heat index of 98'. It was good. I liked it. I could tell my pace at the same effort in cooler weather was reduced, but...of course.

Tri Sam...just as we spoke...12 mile run in mid-afteroon heat 98 index 106 at 9:22 pace today AFTER an uptempo 7mi treadmill run yesterday in Santiago. 19miles on the legs in 2 days = wore out. Guess the volume is here?...LOL

Hi everyone.  Just getting back on this thread.  Flights, hotel and rental car are booked, so I guess I'm in.  No 100-mile bike rides yet, but I've run a few marathons this year and raced a couple of HIMs.  Hoping to get in some more focused IM training around some local shorter events in the leadup to Louisville.  Been interesting reading all of your posts.  Tri Sam - you're killing it.  Sorry to hear about the injury, but it didn't seem to slow you down too much on your recent race.  Holy smokes!

Ok..For those really bored...read this:
My sons' and I demo'd about half the old deck off. Sledgehammer wielding is a great stress reducer. On bike trainer for a quick spin then back out to "Tear-Down". Good QT had by all. I'm calling this cross-training for my coach.

I can't afford a set of race wheels just yet but I'm seriously thinking about getting a wheel cover.

More for the "bling factor" then aero advantage. I think that if I feel fast then I can go fast!!

Lodging question- I apologize as I am sure this has been posted somewhere in this thread.  I haven't booked a hotel yet and need info on a good place to stay.  I live in New Hampshire and will be down just for the weekend.  I will be by myself so I guess as close as possible.  I haven't booked yet because from what I read there are plenty of options that don't sell out quickly.  Also, this is now starting to become more real.  Any info would help.

Thanks
