Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great morning run. Stayed close to the house because my son had company so I knew my HR would be hight than on the track because of the hills. Too my amazement I was actually able to RUN..at a very slow pace and for the first time since moving here it was at my true MAF! Very excited!! 2.41 in 33.21 pace 13:50 MAF 146. LAst time I did almost the same route was May 19 with a pace of 13:08 but my HR was 151. - Jennie P : S 2/ B 2/ R 4/ Rest Days 1; Total = 8 : 06:40'39" |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Now a question about swim fins. I notice in my Masters Swim everyone has fins. Our WU is always 1000m with some length of kick drills. I've only been twice but the shortest distance of Kicks has been 150. They session prior was 200. If I use the board only, I am so weak that I can't get as much of the main set finished in the time. I'm going to go earlier tomorrow but was curious to know what everyone here thought about fins? I do know that I am faster kicking without the board. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All, thanks for sharing you reasons for doing Endurance Sports, very enlightening (and particularly touched and inspired by yours Jennie, so thanks for sharing with us and keep up the good work!) Joe and E, we are totally excited for you guys with your upcoming HIM races and please post your bib #'s so that we can track you Adding an interval swim yesterday (10 x 150's) + 7.5 Mi run today morning and my HR is still high after IM Texas - Jennie P : S 2/ B 2/ R 4/ Rest Days 1; Total = 8 : 06:40'39" |

We all have the things that we MUST Endure. Endurance Sports and the training is the one thing we CHOOSE to endure. I think the mental and physical strength that has developed in us though our chosen sport helps keep us strong for the areas of our lives we cannot control. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had to take a forced day off yesterday due to some heavy t-storms that are still looming over the area, today was a planned day off but I'm not planning on making up for yesterday's (too close to the race). Tomorrow when I get to boise I will ride to shake off the jet lag and try the bike to make sure it is still race ready. So ALL of my days off are used up already. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jenputnam - 2012-06-07 12:50 PM I'm going to go earlier tomorrow but was curious to know what everyone here thought about fins? I do know that I am faster kicking without the board. Then don't use the board. It's actually a better workout and test of your abilities if you don't use the kickboard. Not using one allows you to be in a better body position and practice breathing drills at the same time. Use of fins (when used properly) is a great way to get more distance in in a shorter period of time and also can be used as a tool to increase your resistance in the water and help build strength. That being said, they can also be a crutch for bad form and give you a false sense of how your skills and abilities are progressing. I like to add a few drills in with fins periodically, but try not to use them too often. Hope this helps |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() - Jennie P : S 2/ B 2/ R 4/ Rest Days 1; Total = 8 : 06:40'39" Forced "rest" day yesterday. Too much going on with the kiddos and the end of the school year activities. More tired at the end of the day than if I had spent it SBRing. 30 min swim at lunch. Will run later |

I am positive you will do great. I've used up my rest days and then some. Got to get back to some kind of fitness activity soon. All week I've been tired (maybe fighting an illness?) and unable to get motivated to workout. I have the images from my bone scan and nervously awaiting tomorrow's meeting with my doc. He will have the radiologists findings then. From the little I could glean from the google I am not comforted by what I see on the bone scan. I'm pretty convinced my running will be on a forced hiatus for a couple months (assuming its a stress fracture). Hoping I am able to cycle and swim through the rest of the summer. Bad time of the season to get injured (is there ever a good time?). Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised with the radiologists findings? Send some positive mojo my way team! Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-06-06 9:16 PM Nice 30 minute run before my boy's baseball game. I'll have to add it later once I'm not on my phone. I also wanted to add another reason I do this, inspiration to my kids to lead active healthy lives. How many other 5 year olds out there know what an Ironman is?
I second that. My 12 year old daughter and 11 yr. old son ran their first sprint tri with me this year and are now training for their next one, which is in a month. I think it is pretty cool. |

I did a sprint tri with daughter #2 last year it was a great experience. She is the girl in my profile pic. I was great to meet her at the finish. She came in behind my friend who is also in my profile pic (it was his first tri). I am very proud of her, she is the only kid from our county who did the triathlon and she came in 3rd in her age. It is such a great connection! Edited by JBacarella 2012-06-07 3:07 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Andy, Joe, Ernesto and Chris have fun and good luck in your races this weekend. Joe, did you see my message about SafeSea sunscreen for the jellyfish? Ernesto, how are your Garmin screens set up? I found the perfect swim coach for me tonight. It was great and I can't wait to go practice the things he showed me.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All packed and ready to go! Alcatraz has a neat tracking app that automatically will post status updates for me on facebook while I'm on the course, letting folks (who I'm friends with, Andy Gunsaullus from Alexandria, MN if you're interested) know when I'm out of the water, on the bike etc. I'm bib number 844, there's other tracking methods on their website. And now I'm accountable and can't slack off! We fly in tomorrow, after we're checked into the hotel I think we're heading over to the Aquatic Park for a swim to see how the water feels. Pick up our rental bikes Saturday morning (I've got a Trek Madone 5.5 Carbon, ought to be fun), then race expo and pre-race meetings, hang with the kids and explore a bit. Then to sleep because transition opens at 4am! We've got a nanny service (recommended through a friend out there) coming at 4 so we can head over, rack our bikes then on the boat by 6:30! I don't have a real specific time goal. I'd have to really kick some tail to go under 3 hours, especially on the run which I'm worried about after that super hard, hilly bike course. Time for sleep! |
