mchally - 2010-03-10 9:50 PM I am sitting in the corner of my dad's room right now.  He has declined quite a bit over the last two weeks.  He is doing very poorly now and it wouldn't be surprising if he doesn't make it through the night.

I am so sorry, Mel.

My dad had a rough night.  His breathing was labored, but it eased up a bit around 4am.  He seems to have stabilized for now.  My sister and brother in law arrived last night and will probably be staying through the weekend.

My friend is bringing up some cinnabons for my dad and once he leaves I will head to the pool for a swim.

So I know this seems really trivial compared to what Mel's going through, but I need to vent somewhere.  I weighed myself for the first time in about a month and somehow managed to gain 7 pounds.  I'm more active now and I thought I've been pretty good about eating.  I just have no idea what I'm doing wrong and I'm so frustrated.  I don't know what to do anymore.

"Read the patient, not the monitor."

Do you feel fitter? Do you feel better? Do you look like you weigh more or less?

Sounds like doing what you've been doing is just fine and you're not doing anything wrong. More active, watching what you're eating ... that's good stuff.

Also, remember that any changes in medications can make a big difference.

I definitely feel fitter.  I don't think  I look like I weigh more or less and my clothes feel about the same.  It's just frustrating to me right now.  I've been working pretty hard and it feels like it was for nothing right now.

Believe me, I understand disappointment and frustration, especially where weight is concerned.

But again, I'd look back in the direction of that you HAVE made good efforts and you FEEL FITTER. Also, in all seriousness, my weight can fluctuate NINE POUNDS in a day. You could try weighing yourself at different times during the day for the next week, maybe just as a fun observation exercise, removing any expectation or judgment.

Personally, whenever there's a scale around, I'm a big fan of weighing myself in the morning BEFORE I've had anything to drink and AFTER I've already peed.

That's how I do it - first thing in the morning, right before I get into the shower and after I've gone to the bathroom.

I think I'm going to take my measurements today and see if those are changing at all.  I haven't done that in awhile.

You crack me up.  BTW, the postman laughed at me when I filled out the customs form for your box.  I put "food".  He suggested I be more specific, so I wrote "PopTarts, candy, energy bars".  He thought it was pretty funny that I was sending boxes of PopTarts.
