What's said in the beer appreciate society/stays in the beer appreciation society.  Plus, it's clear you were thinking of your wife when you went to the beer store.  The Torpedo is one of my favs.  So hoppy - yet balanced.

Loved the buttwiper comment... I can see why you married her... smart woman.

Thanks Kevin for the kind words... This site has been a huge part of my success so far and I will continue to lean on you, Thor, and DH for support as I make a life long committment to exercise (and beer drinking).

Have a great day everybody!

Glad you liked the fruit beer....in general...I hate fruit beers.

Gotta find myself a beer drinking group.

Accountability! A gentle nudge or a kick in the a$$ is what we are here for! Or an ice cold beer.

BTW, tried a couple of new ipas, one from BC and one from ONT last weekend. Mt. Begbie one was pretty good. The Hops and Robbers beer barely registered on the hops. Okay but not the type of IPA I was looking for. Kind of like an IPA with training wheels.

Got the email from Surf City Half/full marathon yesterday....thinking about doing it again!

February 5

Got in another run this morning. Felt pretty good. Hopefully a sign that I am getting back to my speed(slow is a speed!).

Darren, just over a week until your 100 miler? It hurts me just thinking of it!

David, who is the old guy in the pictures on facebook? Laughing

Anybody else posting their September training goals?

Yahoo, long weekend coming up! Off camping this weekend and hockey for my son on Saturday and Sunday.

This things healing.  I aquajogged for the first time.  A little awkward passing a 65 ish yr. old in the pool every lap around the lazy river.  He was really getting into the beat of the jazzercise class going on in the other pool while we were doing laps around the lazy river.  Guy was doing a modified breast stroke at one point,  (taking much of the lazy river lane up) and I had to proceed with caution to pass.  It was good times.

I'm having a hard time staying off of the accountability wagon.  I had two racer 5 IPA's at a local brew pub today.  They were wonderful!  I did however register my first weight loss in several weeks.  Laughing

Looking forward to being back to training next week.

In the news, had Crabbies original alcoholic ginger beer and Schofferhofers grapefruit hefeweizen. Both are absolute garbage.

Which leads me to Kevin's general principle #1 about beer.

GP#1 states fruit and beer do NOT go together!

Glad to hear things are getting better for your feet.  I think you should sign up for the Surf City Marathon and stick a copy of your registration sheet on the fridge as motivation.  Might also wanna grab some warm coors to ensure you make it happen.

Glad to hear you are healing as well!  The story about aquajogging amused me.  Do they actually let you, Mr. Speed, into the lazy river?  Surprised you didn't knock the old man out of the way.

The racer 5 is good stuff!  But I've got to disagree with you about your rule about not mixing your fruit and your beer.   While I love a good IPA - I also love a good fruitbeer... Blueberries, Cherries, and especially raspberries can be great and refreshing.

First - the good news... On Friday  I got in my longest run in 3 years.  I was able to do the 7 miles pretty easy and since it was a rest week, I took my time.  Also - after a light week, my hips and knees feel a lot better.

Now the bad news... My feet hurt.  WTF.  I haven't felt pain in my feet since March.  Unfortunately going from 0-17 miles per week running was more than I should have asked from my weak footsies.  I'm not freaking out... just concerned with 5 weeks to go before the HIM.  So, I will ice, take advil and stretch and we'll see what happens.

Hey DH - do you remember those two links that you sent me back in February about beating PF?  If you can find them, would you report them?  Thx.

The plan for the weekend is to go for a long ride (30 miles) on Saturday and then a short run on Sunday.  Maybe I'll do a little aqua jogging instead...

As for beer - Thrilled to discover that my grocery store now sells Jolly Pumpkin beer.  Its a saison that's made in Michigan and it is aweome.  Plus it's 4 bucks cheaper a bottle than at the beer store.

As for the weekly weigh in - I got down to 177 this morning.  That brings my total to 85 since November.  Hoping to lose 2 more pounds this week so I can go spend the money from the Weight Loss Challenge on beer.

SO, it was a crazy day and having a tire stem break got in the way of my afternoon long ride.  I thought about going for a quick one but really wanted to go long after cutting my last ride short.  So my family and I went out to dinner at a local brew pub... I did a flight of 5 tasters - 2 were average, 2 were good, and the 5th one was outstanding - Rye Belgian Ale.  After a burger (and an order of veggies), I ordered the Belgian Tripel and fricken loved it.  Amazingly balanced considering it was 9.5% abv.

Haven eaten the burger and drunk the beer - I really had to get in the ride despite the fact that sun was going down.  I don't want to make this night riding a habit but it was great.  Nothing like beer to help fuel a workout.

Goal for the week: Ramp up the training, stretch the sh1t out of my plantar facia, and log a 9 mile run (that will be my longest run since running a marathon in '05).

Goal for the Month: Follow the plan and get ready for the HIM.

It's early on Sunday afternoon.  Just checking in to report I got my run in and my feet feel a little less sore.  I've been stretching like it's my job and it feels like it's having an effect.  Not out of the woods yet - but a little less stressed about it.

Bought 80 pounds of charcoal on sale at Target... Gonna smoke some meat (keep the jokes to yourselves)Laughing tomorrow.

Swim later...

Dave,

The thing that people don't get about PF is that it isn't anything that is wrong with your PF. It is stuff that is wrong with your lower leg. An imbalance in flexibility of muscles. And that can go all the way up to your hip. Stretching it may help but won't solve the underlying condition. I was better off lying on my back rotating my ankles clockwise and counter clockwise for 10 minutes.

DH - you are so right!  My whole body is tight... I'm throwing the kitchen sink at my feet in terms of stretching.  I will add your exercise to my list...

How are you feeling this week?  Ready for your century?

Just checking in... Feet hurt this morning - not badly but enough to let me know they were there.  So, I think I need to try something really radical to help them... So, I've decided to spend the day smoking a pork shoulder with the hopes that the healing smoke and copious amounts of beer will sooth what ails (ales?) me... I've never tried to do it on my weber before so it should be a learning experience...

Beautiful day here in Mass... Gonna go for a 20 mile ride this afternoon to make room for the pulled pork tacos and home made North Carolina Coleslaw...

Man, life is good!  How's everyone else doing?

Life is good here as well, but not that good!

Started college last week.  Start work tomorrow.  Start new training plan next week.

Went for a 20 miler last night.  moderately intense pace.  Knee held up.  I'm thinking 1 more of these peiced together weeks where I test it, then I should be good to go to start really moving forward on HIM plan.  I'm going to start a 20 week maintanance plan geared at picking up where I left off and hoping to improve upon my times from the summer.

Hoping all is well with everyone else.

Good luck with all your beginings Kevin and I'm glad to hear that you are almost back in business in regards to the knee.

Which plan are you going to do?  I plan on starting my HIM training once I get done with my HM in November.  I'm starting to think that I want to do two HIM and an IM next year.  Go hard or go home.  Just for the record, I have no plans or desire to even think about pulling a DH Laughing

To wash down the pulled pork, my friend and I are gonna try some homebrew that has more hops in it than dogfish 120.  Based upon the smell of it going in the Keg, it might just be outstanding.

Go big or go home on both next years race plans, and the homebrew.  That's outstanding.

I am doing a plan based on my HIM times off of this site.  With the gold membership comes the ability to plug your times in and create your own plan based on how often you want to work out, and such.  I am going to do 2 20 week cycles of HIM plan and put some fluff inbetween so that the second HIM plan ends on the date of My HIM next year.

5:00:00 or bust!  That's the goal for next year's HIM.  I'm considering switching the coors light to keystone, narural light, or old milwuakee, if I bust.  thoughts?

Good to see you recovering. How about warm Schlitz beer(sp)? Do they have that anymore. I remember drinking it in Montana...

Have you picked up a cycle trainer yet? Or will you just ride a spin bike?

For me I get a waaay better workout via the cycle trainer, although spin class is a nice change up that is for sure!

There were several online, but I think I'll have to spin through the winter.  That is too bad, the convenience of having the bike at home on a trainer is what I'm going to miss out on the most.  There's not enough hours in the day, it seems.

Well after a weekend of camping and hockey school for my son this weekend, it is time to start my journey to 190. Going to stop buying beer and fastfood for September. Of course going to get training more consistently. Did my run this morning and going to put the bike on the trainer for tomorrow morning!

Hey Darren, ready for the 100 miler? That is in Lethbridge isn't it? Hope you have a tailwind!

Sounds pretty cool.  I was thinking of investing in the gold membership myself... How adaptable is it... In a perfect world I'd like to find a plan that would get me ready for Boston in April and a HIM in June and July and an IM in September.  Is there that kind of adaptability in the plans that are offered at the gold level?  Plus I need to find a plan that would help me to improve my speed in all three disciplines.  Thoughts?

5:00:00 or bust!  That's the goal for next year's HIM.  I'm considering switching the coors light to keystone, narural light, or old milwuakee, if I bust.  thoughts?

Bold!  5 hours should be in your wheelhouse.  If you can improve the speed on your swim and continue to kick on your bike and run, I'd say you already have it in the bag.  As for the motivation - I think you can choose any of those beers but you need to leave it in the trunk of your car for a month before the race so it's nice and skunked.  That should provide enough motivation.

Finally - the homebrew that my friend made with more hops than dogfish 120... Simply incredible... Drinking some now after my run.  Does. Not. Get. Any. Better.

Good luck with all your beginings Kevin and I'm glad to hear that you are almost back in business in regards to the knee.

ahh, nice, smoked bbq pulled pork and IPA! What kind of bbq sauce do you go with? I hope you went for a looong bike ride to counter that BBQ/beer supper!

I used a North Carolina vinegar sauce.  Awesome.  The pulled pork was tasty.  Really tasty.  I'm gonna have to investigate the ways of the smoker.  Man, does it make crappy pieces of meat taste good.  And yes - 20 mile bike ride burned off a lot of calories.

I'm properly motivated these days.  I've got my money from the weightloss beer challenge sitting by my fridge waiting to be used once I reach 175.  Two pounds and counting...

Well after a weekend of camping and hockey school for my son this weekend, it is time to start my journey to 190. Going to stop buying beer and fastfood for September. Of course going to get training more consistently. Did my run this morning and going to put the bike on the trainer for tomorrow morning!

Hockey school?  What, do you live in Canada or something? Wink

A journey to 190?  Sounds like a great goal.  That's 18 pounds.  What's your plan and how can I help?  Once you get going again - the weight should melt right off!

Hey Darren, ready for the 100 miler? That is in Lethbridge isn't it? Hope you have a tailwind!

Ready?  Darren is a machine!  Good luck to you buddy!
