A slow Monday on the BDAS... Hope the week is off to a good start for everyone...  I know I posted it late - but be sure to fill in the goal sheet with your goals for the week.

Proud to report that I managed to pull my butt out of bed this morning for some Yoga.  I'm trying out Yin yoga which works on stretching the facia and connective tissue by having you hold your poses for 5 minutes.  It was very relaxing in the moment - but based upon how sore I am, I'd say I might want to start slow and work up to those 5 minutes : )

Back still hurts... it's my lunch hour and I am icing it as I type... my students think it's hilarious that I'm walking about like an old man.  Hey gramps - where's your cane?  Funny... notYell

Nice work getting up this morning... Let us know how that yoga works out.

not a great monday thus far for me.  didnt get up for spinning this morning and am having some real back pain.  Its not my usual syatic nerve pain it feels like its on my spine.  I did a lot of heavy lifting after spinning on saturday morning (moved a fridge and stacked washer/dryer up 3 flights).

Hitting the gym tonight with my wife, Im going to try to bike for an hr and get some stretching in. hopefully this wont aggrevate my back further.

Hope everyone is having a great monday

Is it possible to use a foam roller too much?  How often should I be doing this?  It's all new and I'm hoping to relieve some pressure on my hammy plus avoid any other injuries by being proactive not reactive.

I've heard different answers to this question.  When I asked the AT at my school - he told me the more I used it - the better off I would be.  So I went home and did it for an excruciating 15 minutes...I was sore for days... My suggestion would be to start with 30 sec. to a minute and then build up slowly from there.  When you roll over a painful spot - try to focus on that area to relieve the knot.  Supposedly, the pain should go away when the knot goes away.  With that said, I was so tight that it hurts no matter how much I roll it.

Good luck!

3 flights?  My back is having sympathy pains...You should be ok for biking as long as you stay upright.  When you're done stretching - spend some time icing it.  Good luck and way to support the spouse!

Biked 10 miles and then a ran a quick mile. Once I stretched and kept moving my back felt better. Plan for tonight is to stretch, ice then some heat before bed.

Curse you cold front!  It's looking now like only 1 day this week will be high enough for the pool to open.  See we are cursed that all the pools are outside and it has to be over 70 for the county to open them.  Hopefully I will be a strong enough swimmer that next year I can hit the beach and swim there, it's always open :P  Keeping the fingers crossed that Wed the doc sets me free and I can at least bike or something.

I know how much you want to get in the pool so I will keep the jokes to myself.  The very fact that you are so disappointed shows how far you have come!  You'll be in my prayers.. Good luck on Wednesday.

I hit the pool today and had my best swim of the year.  Thanks to my back - it's been almost a month since I ripped off a good workout and I was pi$$ed that I wasn't doing more.  So, I did a short ladder and really pushed myself to swim each set under 2 minutes.  I was sucking wind but I got it done...

Hoping to get in a little run walk tonight.  10 weeks and counting to the first tri of the season.  I'm making it my goal to improve my time by more than 10% from last years time in the same race.

The thought of having to drink Coors Light for a week haunts me...

We

ll been a tough start to March. Tough but fun. Didn't register for hockey this year, so I am subbing for whoever needs players. Seems like feast or famine. Played Saturday, Sunday and Monday. While I really enjoy the game and the Bs'ing after, it kills my workouts! Going to bed at midnight mean pretty much ruins the next day for me. Oh well back on schedule tomorrow with a run and hopefully a bike. Tonite will probably be just a sit in the hot tub for my aching hockey muscles. Only two games this weekend, Friday/Sunday but, I may bail on them for a little beauty sleep which I need plenty of! Laughing

On the IPA note, I picked up a 6pk of Brockton IPA by Granville Brewing...meh, nothing spectacular but nothing to write home about either.

Hey folks,

Sorry it has been a while. I have a week off from work while we transition to our new 4 on 4 off schedule and it seems like everyday we have something else on the go, from visiting to snowshoeing, to shopping trips. I am really enjoying the QT with the family but it has really cut into my time for my BDAS family.

Workouts have been good, although I am going to have to step it up a notch to keep the 30/31 challenge in sight.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their workouts!

Fix for all you chip fans.  Got turned on to this by my sons teacher today.  Kale with a very very light spritz of olive oil and sprinkle with salt to taste.  Pop in oven at 300 til it gets cripsy (not very long).  Don't wait for browning because it won't.  Guess it would but by then it's burnt.  I was a salty snack guy big time and damn man these are good.

I figure if you are sore from playing hockey - then you must be working hard.  Sure, it's not S B R but it's gotta count for something.  I wonder if you could work out on a stationary bike in your pads - it would be funny to see.

As for the beauty sleep, I know think there's enough time in the day to give you enough of thatLaughing

Never heard of Granville - is out of Canada and is it a decent brewery?

Had a seemingly worthless trip to the gym this evening. Weather is warming up here in CT so everyone is hitting the gym which means EVERY treadmill, spinning bike and elliptical was being used.  Even the jogging track was full. But I decided I drove all the way there that I needed to do something. I lacked any motivation but got a little in.

  • 1/2mi Run on the track (5:00)
  • 1000m Row
  • 20min on the Elliptical
  • Abs and weights.

Bag is packed for the morning hoping to catch a spinning class and then some racquetball in the evening with my brother-in-law.

Hope everyone is getting their workouts in, or in my case some mixture of crap.

So I had a live blood analysis done at my Naturopaths office and just got the reaction report back,

Foods I am Very Reactive too:

DAIRY - All sizes, shapes and forms of it! Even goats milk! GOATS!!!

EGGS - yeah EGGS! I eat a tonne of eggs! not good!

and the last and most definitely the worst...

GLUTEN! ...... Butttttt I am only have a moderate reaction to it, and no reaction to brewers yeast... I know there is a gluten free beer in the stores here call 'New Grist' that is decent, anyone else heard of any other ones??

Good news though, I checked scotch and though it is formed from gluten, since it is evaporated and then condensed...all the gluten is left behind!!!! So single malt it is from here on out....Sorry Bank Account!

Treading lightly:  have you been having any food issues, or was this a random "let's run the test and see what happens" situation?

As far as gluten free beer, there's one from my backyard:  Two Brothers' Prairie Path (http://www.twobrosbrew.com/Prairie%20Path.htm), if you can find it up by you.

Sure you're happy about the scotch (and who wouldn't beWink) but how do you feel about the rest of it...? So will you cut back on beer?  I wonder how much gluten is in Coors light!

Your "crap" helped you avoid a coors light.... You could have turned around and gone home.  But you stayed and made the most of it... Nice work.  Plus with spinning in the morning and racketball in the evening - you'll be well on your way to 30 in 31...  BTW - hope you crush your BIL!

Morning BDAS:

I got in a 30 minute yoga session this morning and am happy that the back gets a little better each day. There's a winter storm headed our way and I've got to remember that what put me in this position was shovelling.

Things are getting a little slow here on the forum.  Make it your mission to keep us up to date on your exercise as we head into into the spring.  Be sure to post to the forum daily and to support your fellow BDASers with a reply or with a like.  I find that the more time I spend on BT the more focused I am about my eating and working out.  If we can make it though the next 2-3 weeks, spring should be here.

Hey and don't forget the beer.  Last night after a run, I rewarded myself with a few glassess of homebrew.  My friend had made a belgian biere de garde and an IPA with Centennial hops.  Tasty.

Hoping to stay on the straight and narrow food wise.  It's tough with my wife baking all the time...

Prost

Didnt make spinning this morning, the gym in the morning is the best for my schedule but its so hard to get up and walk the dog and still get to the gym at 5am.But I got up and did 20min of p90x yoga. Pretty tough I may need to start on something easier. I restarted the pushup challenge but at a higher base and did some crunches and planks during the rest between sets. Storms are on the way like David said. So I'm hoping it doesnt throw people of their game.Good luck out there

Nailed 100 yards in the pool toady without stopping.  Did it breast stroke but the point is I did it.  At this rate I will be ready for the 400 in May for sure even if I have to float it, lol.  The 100 breast was 3:22, not sure if this is fast or slow nor does it matter yet but it gives me a starting point to work off of.  Only did 400 total but was a hard 400.  Back at it tomorrow.

Leaving the house in 30 minutes for the doc.  I'll be sure to post it up what he said.  I'm itching to get back at it but a lot slower and shorter this time
