April 21-22  Tour of Hermann Bike Race (B Race)

August 12    Alligator Creek Sprint Triathlon (C Race)

August 19th  Lake St. Louis Oly Triathlon (B Race)

Septermber 16th  Branson 70.3 (A Race)

This is the plan as of right now.  I will might find a few sprints to use as training earlier in the year and maybe a couple of more bike races to train with also.  Everything this year will be geared towards getting in shape for the 70.3 in September.

I hit my longest run ever on sat! 8 miles in 85 mins. Pretty darn proud of that! My swimming is ok and I'm still sucking on the bike. I even have the bruises to prove it. I'm still scared to get out on the road but I'm getting there. I've just got to keep falling off I will blame it on my club foot!

A wrench has landed in the gears.

Had a great workout last night at karate, sparring night, 2min rounds with alternating push ups and sit ups between rounds of 1:1 and 2:1 fights for about 20min.

The 'wrench', I broke my toe in the last round and today in shoes here it work it is beginning to throb. I hope I can run or ride later. The good news, if it does, maybe I'll get to the pool more and get that habit going.

Steve, sorry to hear about the toe.  Hopefully it will not keep you from your workouts.

Addy, Great to hear that you were able to get out and ride.  The weather here in NC has allowed for lots of good outdoor rides this winter.  I hope it continues.

I was able to run today which makes me happy.  My injured calf is on the way to recovering.  Very little pain.  No speed, but no pain which is more important right now.

Thanks Addy and Ken.

So I try the cycling shoes and trainer at first, let's just say that was a no go, but on the spin bike at the gym in old running shoes on a spin bike with platform pedals and loose foot straps was reasonably comfortable. I'm going to hold off on running until Sunday or so and see how that goes. In the end, last night was a spin for 30min with tension to simulate a flat road with a headwind.

Got in a quick Brick before dinner reservations tonight.

14 miles on the bike at an average 18 mph and then 3 mile run at 7:35 minute miles.

Getting used to the transition from the bike to running.

I'm starting this on Sunday, just going to start walking after my ride. It's time to get my legs acclimated. I've heard this is the hardest part of tris.....that it can be really painful. What do you think ?

Hit a snag with my swim training, somehow injured my left shoulder.  I thought the water was supposed to be forgiving!  I guess even there you can get hurt using bad form.  Anyway, taking a rest from that.  Still running and will spend more time on the bike I guess.  Keep it up all of you!

So today was swim and bike day.  Got in a good .25 mile Open Water swim followed by 8 miles on the bike.

Next week is my first Tri so I am cutting the mileage back a little this week.

So this will be a light week, 10 mile ride tonight.

Seems odd to not do more but I guess this is the best method to be prepared for Saturday.

Yesterday I officially signed up for my first olympic distance race. This should be fun! Luckily in the few weeks leading up to the race they have group swim practice so you can get in a few strokes in the open water.

I haven't been on  BT much this month.  Between work, birthdays, sickness and training, the computer has been last on my mind.  I am amping down for my half marathon this Sunday.  I signed up for it because it is in my hometown and really close to home.  I am excited since it will be my first race of any kind.  I'll let everyone know how this goes after.

So its official, my first Triathlon is in the books, I am now a true beginner triathlete.

Race on the Base reverse sprint triathlon

3.7 miles run 30:10; bad headwinds on the long straightaway slowed my pace significantly.  My goal was an 8:00minute average and I was 8:06

13.1 mile bike 44:35; again the headwinds were a killer on all 3 loops of the course.  My goal was 19 mph,I maintained well over 20 on the back side without wind but slowed significantly averaging only about 16 into the wind.  Overall pace was 17.6 mph

200 meter swim 5:20; as mentioned many times I am not a swimmer so I was really slow in the water.  I will be working on this.

With transitions my overall time was 1:24:30

Not sure where that places me yet.

I can now focus on the Desert International next weekend.

OK, so the final results are in, I finished 16 out of 56 in my age group, not bad for my for Tri I suppose, but I see a bunch of areas where I can improve in the future.

Back to training tomorrow,  Brick with the club, 20 mile bike and 6 mile run first thing in the morning.

So I have hit a snag in my training like a few others have. I signed up for my first olympic distance race and the very next day I rolled my ankle. I don't think I broke it, but I have broken it before. Right now it is really swollen and bruised. It looks like I will get to spend some time in the pool (my weakest area).

The worst part of it all is I was running to go unlock a gate to allow an ambulance to get to someone that was having a very bad seizure. I was just trying to help someone and I get hurt. haha
