I ended up in Anderson. How far in your estimation is it from the race site?

Depending on WHERE in Anderson, it would be safe and a little OCD to plan on 45-60 minutes.

I am staying in Daleville and giving myself 30 mins to get there. Going up Friday noon time and going to the 3pm race meeting. Then checking in my bike and spending too much $$ at the Ironman Store..LOL

Whats everyones night before race meal going to be?? Looking like grilled chicken with some whole wheat pasta and a salad here...then 2 eggs, toast coffee and choc milk around 4:30am race day....

:-D on your first part. Don't we all? Regarding your latter question: not sure exactly as we're staying with family of one of the guys I'm going with. I think we're having grilled chicken and maybe baked potatoes or pasta w/salad. Hopefully nothing spicy/tomatoey. Did that once and it kinda stayed with me during the race (blah). Now I have used Subway turkey sub and all the veggies successfully for the evening meal and also a breakfast meal the evening before (i.e. pancakes, bacon, toast, eggs) and done quite well on the HIMs the next day. Morning breakfast is usually coffee, whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and jelly, and milk. Maybe a banana and/or OJ, but that depends on how I feel and time before the race.

Ok one more directions question here...

From my hotel in Anderson it looks like the fastest route to Prairie Creek is I69 to 67, head East making a couple turns here and there, then right on Gates Rd. to the reservoir.

I am wondering if the somewhat slower route would be better as I should be coming into the transition area from the opposite direction as the majority of the racers (who actually got a hotel in Muncie.) This would involve driving East on 700, then 35, then left (North) on 540 which appears to be the same as Gates Rd.

Any locals want to weigh in?

I've only been to Eagleman 70.3 which didn't have them any of the times I was in that event, but neither of the other HIM distance events I've been in had them either. They don't mention them in the Athlete Guide, so I would bet not. This is the only statement made about T1 wrt changing: "Public nudity is not permitted."

For the night before race meal I am taking advantage of Pita Pit's 31% off for Muncie 70.3 athletes, sandwiches always work best for me

Make sure to keep an eye on FB and pay attention to the athlete meeting. Caught this on FB today:

"there is a slim chance the start time may move earlier due to high forecasted temperatures. However, The final call will not be made until just prior to the athlete meetings at the expo on Friday. The time between Swim waves may also be shortened to get everyone out sooner."

There is a chance of an additional aid station on the bike as well.

The Fairfield is on the northwest side off of McGalliard / 332. The race is at the reservoir southeast of the city. There will be no traffic other than racers though at that hour on Saturday.

You might just get your wish. Just checked the latest from NWS Indianapolis plus a few of the latest forecast models for the race area:

Temperature forecasts:

Race start: 76; 9 AM: 84 HI 87; 11 AM: 95 HI 99; 1 PM: 99 HI 104; 3 PM: 100 HI 105

Winds: Generally out of the west 5-10 mph. So, a bit of a tailwind mile 9-22, head to 30, tail to 35, head - cross back to 50 and tail-cross after that to the finish. So at least there'll be a bit on the run too.

Humidity doesn't look overly oppressive as dew points are in the mid 60s but it still will be fairly significant with the heat.

No rain is expected but a stray shower could still appear over the course (in some ways, let's hope so on the run)

The only possible saving grace would be any bit of cloud cover that may develop to help keep the sun off of us. A few of the models have indicated this but it's not in the official forecast.

This actually reminds me a lot of my first HIM which was Eagleman 70.3 in 2008. Same temps and heat indexes. Little shade on the run course there too. As my goal then was just to finish, for the run portion I did a run to aid station/walk through them/run to next one when able strategy. Finished ok considering the heat and the fact that many folks had no time to acclimate to the heat. Other folks didn't fare as well. At least this time, been training out in the heat when possible the last few months and have a few more ways to keep cool this time. So see how I fare with this course and these conditions. Adjust goal as needed.

Might provide one last update this evening but I'm thinking there probably won't be any changes.

wow. did one last heat workout yesterday to get ready...ride and then a run. it was 97-98. can't see how this ends up being fun...will try to keep the smile going. feel bad for the spectators as well.
