Well, I've got good news and I've got bad news. The good news is the trip to China was a blast, or I should say is a blast as I'm sitting in a starbucks in Beijing right now writing this. God bless free wireless (although I'm going to be careful where I go on the internet).

The bad news is that I'm now hopelessly behind on my training. Not for lack of effort mind you. The hotel does have a full floor dedicated to a fitness center, massage parlor, etc. but the entire floor is also under renovation! Therefore the only training I've done is walking. I've done a lot of that and even climbed to the top of the great wall (goodness gracious even though I'm in triathlon shape that is no easy task).

My point is that my goals for this month were planned out using every available minute of training time to optimum use. Now a full 5 days behind I'd be risking an injury just at the start of the season if I attempt to catch up. I'll understand if I have to drop out from this months challenge because it's not fair to all of you that I drag you down, but if Artemis will let me I'd like to request that I recalculate my goals taking into account the 5 lost training days since they were not due to laziness on my part but unforseen circumstances.

I'll be flying back today and so I'll check back. I hope you all have been progressing well in your training and good luck.

Mmmmmm...Starbucks sounds good right about now. Starting to wilt a little now it's mid-morning here.

Venti brewed coffee......None of that foo-foo "extra skinny double la-di-da with room crapiatto" for me thanks. Just coffee and water.

OK I'm off to get one now.......but I will avoid the evil counter of muffins!!!!

And for all of you having coffee craving... YES... it's the Pumpkin Pie Latte Recipe!!!

Warning.... I've never tried this, and don't endorse this product in any way shape or form. Might cause headaches in young children and pregnant women.

Gasp!... It's shocking that you have so little faith in frou frou coffee. I LOOOVE my grande double shot non fat extra foam caramel macchiato.

Hey Team!

Sorry I haven't been in on the conversation much....time is a precious commodity for me right now.  I'm ahead of pace on run, swim will not be a problem..I am worried about reaching my bike goal.  I have had it with the trainer, yet not exactly warm enough for me outdoors yet (I know, I need to HTFU).  I fear I have a few more weeks with the trainer, since finding time to ride outdoors once the afternoon does warm up is hard (I work 2p-10p) and watch our 2 sons from about 6am-2p.  Happy Training.

Tim

Hey Tim,

Glad to see your getting your training time in. I'm with you on the worries about the biking goals. That is gonna be tough for me too. Stick with it....You're a Pumpkin!

What's everyone got on tap for the weekend?

I've got a half-mary on Saturday and then 45 mile bike on Sunday.

Well we are midway through the 2nd week and I was checking out how we were doing vs the other teams and it is looking very close....see numbers below:

Lava 33% (due to a few people doing strength workouts are at 50% and pulling their average way up)

Pumpkins 29%

Atoms 29%

Moose 28%

Turtles 27%

Elephants 25%

Pineapples 20%

Onions 17%

We are sitting in equal 2nd place with the atoms and have 2 other teams really close on our heels!!!!

Hopefully Brian's monster weekend plans (half Mary and 45mi bike) will give our numbers a bit of a boost before Monday and give us all a bit of inspiration......or guilt(!!???!!) to get out and get some good training in for ourselves.

Let's go pumpkins....get that weekend planned now and we can be number 1 by Monday

GO PUMPKINS!

As for me this weekend, I am heading down to the lake called Elephant Butte in South Central New Mexico (about 2.5hr drive for me).

I am going to visit some good friends and get a long run and hopefully get in some open water swim practice....but the water is still pretty cold at this time of year and I have not been able to invest in a wetsuit yet.....soooooo I will have to imagine I am back in my homeland of Scotland at the beach and grit my teeth and go for it!! But I suppose the runs will feel nice after that since the temp is supposed to be 72degF (22degC) on Sunday.

Hopefully I can get some pics over the weekend and post em when I get back on Sunday night together with some good training in my log.

How about everyone else?

If all goes well, I'm doing my 2 hour run tomorrow morning before work @ 5am and maybe a swim later in the day, saturday another 1:10 minute run and another swim, and Sunday, if the rain holds out, I'm going to get my 3 hour bike ride in on my freshly tuned-up bike.  Tonight I'm going to try and get another strength session in, too.  A fun filled weekend.  Today is beautiful here in the Phila area but it isn't supposed to stay like this all weekend. Rain is in the forecast

No races on the horizon, though...

Had a bike planned for today, but got stuck in town till late. I'm Dragging my husband out for a ride tomorrow though (about 30-40K) so that will kick up my bike percentage.

- Woohoo, a fellow 5am'er :-) I usually get to the Gym in the morning at 5.30 so I know your pain... There's something quite calming about being the only one out on the road at that time though. It's all 'quiet-like'.

Good luck for the weekend everyone :-)

Wow, you've got some brass ones Chris. The last time I tried to take a pic like that at speed I ended up coming to an abrupt and unexpected stop when I flipped over the handlebars. Thank goodness it was only my cell phone camera and the only this truely damaged was my pride.

Digging out - thanks for the well wishes, hopefully by Monday things will be all clear. logged 1 hr 15 min of riding yesterday - felt good - looking to swim tonight and swim / run tomorrow. Won't be caught up on run, but pretty sure I can get back in the game and get to 100%!!! yeah!
