Veteran 131 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Pasman - 2008-05-12 11:27 AM OK another quick post with a couple comments and a question. First comments, was at the pool Saturday morning to do a 1 hour and 5 minute swim totalling 3250m. I thought I wouldn't have been able to do it but low and be hold finished it in 1 hour ten minutes. I was so proud of myself. I was also talking to a guy who was swimming in the same lane and he is training for Ironman Canada and I said I would like to get there someday and he said that my swimming was strong enough to do it. I was passing him every once and while so that pumped me up as well. Second comment/questions. I had a 2 hour bike sessions planned on Saturday night but instead of road riding I went mountain biking with a friend. We rode pretty hard and did a lot of hills and such but I feel like I cheated. Maybe just me, what do you think? I was glad I went though because I thought I might not be fit enough to keep up with my friend who is actually my personal trainer and 9 years younger. I just remembered previous years of mountain biing and always being pooped and always out of breath, but again a pleasant surprise that I hammered it out and was kicking butt and not even that tired. I guess all this training is paying off. Any way a lot of horn tooting but I just wanted to share that I am loving my new self and am so glad I have decided to do this triathlon. Bring it on......
Great job Perry! It doesn't sound like you cheated at all with the mountain biking. Speaking of mountain biking, I am excited to get the Muddy Buddy going this weekend. It should be a blast. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Perry, If I can whine then you certainly can toot! I like to do crosstraining. Especially on days when I am burned out (hum, wonder when those happen...), it is a nice change of pace. And who isn't stoked when they beat a younger person. (Now if I could just beat my husband at something, he is 6 years older and some how that makes it worse!!!!!!!!!!) Anyway, even though Igo called me a rock, I didn't sink. The main reason I posted today was that if I made it public, you guys would hold me to it and not let me blow it off. Besides, the family gave me a cool Mother's Day gift and this was my chance to try them out. Finis Freestyler swim paddles. Anyone have a set? Boy, you combine them with a pull buoy and you can really work on your balance and rotation. They took a while to get use to, but I like!! Good luck on the Muddy Buddy. I am anxious to hear all about it. The hubby and I have thought about doing one next year. I hear they are a blast. Someone told me to just plan on throwing away the clothes you wear that day, for they are beyond cleaning. Also, make sure you have some way to identify your bike once it is covered in mud. The short answer is it is a partner race of running, mountain biking, obstacle courses, and a mud crawl at the end. Watch this video and it tells it all. http://www.www.muddybuddy.com/info.php |

It is a 6-7 mile course you compete in with a friend. One starts on a mountain bike and the other runs. At the first checkpoint, the biker drops the bike and completes the obstacle before running the next leg. The runner gets to the checkpoint and completes the obstacle before finding the team's bike and taking off. They leap frog each other until the end where they climb through a mud pit together and then the finish line. I heard it is a blast but have not done it yet. They have 9 events planned across the US (but I do not think any in Canada....yet). |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Ladies, (and guys married to them), There is a blog going on in the Triathlon Talk section titled, "Sometimes I hate being a girl!" that would be wise to read. It is discussing safety issues while training alone. This applies to anyone really, for bad people are equal opportunity attackers and should all be castrated. PLEASE BE SAFE OUT THERE! |

I know the body needs this time but I miss the longer workouts for running biking and swimming. Strange I didn't think I would miss sweating so much. i think a lot of people have a problem with this. it does make a difference though as far as your training goes. your body will really appreciate the rest. im trying to get over a stress fracture in my foot and some patellar tendonitis issues. i'm too young to be having these joint problems!! i am blaming it on overtraining so i forced myself to take a break from running. i haven't run in over a week and i feel like i am losing all of my fitness. i was supposed to race this weekend but i don't think it's going to happen. sorry i have been out of the loop lately. i've been working a lot but i have been reading all of the posts and it sounds like everyone is doing great.......congrats on the 1st race, lauren! igo and steve, thanks for the comments on my training log.....i really do appreciate the encouragement.

Member 34 Dallas | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL texwilk - 2008-05-06 11:55 AM Here is what I have lined up for the next month or so: May 25th - Capital of Texas "First Tri" (400m OWS, 10K bike, 5K run) June 22 - Pflugerville Tri (500m OWS, 14mi bike, 3mi run) I am also entered in the Austin Muddy Buddy on May 18th. Has anyone else done this?? Other than that, there are a few other summer races I would like to do but may wait until the baby is born. Mark, I'm doing the sprint at captex on the 25th. I know you posted this a while back but i only just noticed this. From talking to people who have done the race in years past, it sounds as if it is a blast. Maybe we can meet up before the race. |

I would rather be doing the sprint as well but was signed up for the first tri last year (when it was rained out). Anyway, I renewed but did not pay attention. It's my first one so I won't mind the shorter distance |

I have been looking for some non-triathlon stuff to do besides pure running. There is an adventure run/race here in a few weeks, they give you a map and you can stick to the trail or use the map for shortcuts, you just have to check into 3 stations on the way. Was thinking about checking it out. Edited to put in I just noticed there is a muddy buddy in richmond in July... Will be there, not sure if the wife will be in for it though... Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hey all, Just a quick check in while on vacation. I had an awesome mountain bike ride w/ my wife this morning. The rocky terrain is very different from home, challenging and fun. We're going to ride again before we leave for sure. I'm in love w/ the slickrock. Running from the condo here is a bit challenging. It's very much like hill repeats, except on different hills of varying lengths (picture a roller coaster, a very steep roller coaster). I'm really just glad to be able to run without pain, especially since that's the only discipline I can really do here. The pool in our complex is about 3 strokes end to end and the only lap pool in town is $20/session (I know, WTF). Ok, the margaritas are ready and the pool is calling my name... later |
