I happy to hear everyone is doing well with the challenge..

Kristin,
for me its like.. if i'm doing 100s in the pool.. i want at least three 100's to be under 1:50.. running would be 1 mile at 8:30 pace, on the bike is hold 26 mph for 1.5 miles.. little fun stuff to push me.

You both asked about varying workouts..
it's pretty flat here in good ole va.. so i don't have many hills.. I do however have bridges (two to be exact).. so i incorporate these bridges for climbs and sprints...

i approach my workouts like this.. there is four weeks in a month.. each discipline gets a week ..run (1st wk) swim (2nd wk) bike (3rd wk) recovery(4th wk).. i switch the rotation every month..
so example,

1st wk run
mon 3 mile run, swim(1000)
tues 5 mile run (bridges)
wed swim(1300) and bike(when outside 18-28 miles)
thurs 4 mile run fast pace
fri off
sat 6 mile run (last 2.5 miles fast pace) and bike(18-28)
sun Bike(18-28) and swim (1300)

I hope this answered your question on how i vary my workouts. This has worked for me.. its very dynamic.. (because of races, and distance increases..) with distance increases i'd run 5 to 6 days on the run week.. focusing on progression.

i hope i didn't confuse you guys.. let me know
mo

Is everyone else doing well? We have about half the group active and I can't tell if the other half could use any help, motivation or whatever. :-)

I don't know what happened to everyone else.. roliver, imnscrubz, teaganitta, nancylee.. i have no clue.. roliver and teaganitta never came back after asking to be in the group. imnscrubz and nacnylee.. i accepted because of the other two never showed up and they do the same thing... ughhhh so frustrating.

enough of that rant!!!!

The mo jan challenge w K's spreadsheet has been enormously helpful in keeping me on track, as have the inspire me messages and the team's encouragement, support & advice.  I know I'll make it!!  I'm surprised at what I've been able to achieve up to this point, and grateful for it.  Thanks everyone!

Are you going to look around for new team members to replace them, Mo? Or, are we already too far into the mentor program?

For those who have been participating, you are all very inspiring! I think we have a really great group.

How did you come up with this system? I think it is a really good idea. Could you let me know what you do for the swim, bike and rest weeks? I am especially interested to see what your rest week looks like.

Back to the questions about this month's goals -- I'm definitely on target with the bike and the run, but my swimming is lagging a little. Mostly b/c I'm only getting to the pool once a week so far, and I don't want to swim 1500 at a time. I'm going to try to go again on Friday to make it up and stay on track.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. You may want to be careful to really drink lots of water. Sometimes I have found my hydration (or lack of) makes a big difference when I am returning from being sick. Good luck!

Kristin,
I came up with this schedule one day when i felt overwhelmed with training... So i stared at the calendar trying to figure out how to make it work.. so 4wks 3 disciplines evolved.. the last week is kind of a mixed bag.. meaning.. i'll use it for more work on a particular part... just depends..

but heres the stuff you asked about:

Bike
Sun Bike (28-30miles) "A" for at least 10 miles
Mon run/swim
Tues Spin class/run or a 17 mile ride.. 8.5 time trial
Wed back to back(2hrs) spin class and swim
Thur Recovery ride "B" Ride/run
Fri Off
Sat depends.. Long ride (40-50 miles) some sprints

Swim
mon swim 1300 300 wu/8 x 100/200cd
Tue run (4mile) swim 1400
Wed Yoga/run/spin
Thur recovery ride, swim 1600
Fri swim 2200
Sat Yoga/Strength training..
Sun Swim 1600 speed work

Strength training is circuit training.. and focusing on the lats and shoulders.. pull-ups and core work are added
I don't take days off when on the swim week.

If there's bad weather.. I substitute biking with spin classes (2 hrs).

Pace rides "A" pace 20-23 "A+" 23-25 "A++" 26+
"B" pace 17-19
"C" pace 14-16
There are some variances when it comes to this pace chart.

This schedule looks crazy.. the main thing is to focus on the discipline for the week.. the other stuff i do if i can..

2200 swim workout
200 wu
400m
4x100 10-15s rest between
300
3x100 10-15s rest between
200
2x100 10-15s rest between
100
200cd

so jealous, i haven't been snowboarding in two seasons.. hopefully i can get out soon... have fun.. skiing is training... just training differently.. working the calves, quads, hamstrings, glutes, and most the core for stability.. there's an endurance aspect somewhere in there... enjoy... take a black diamond for me...

GumbleX, from your logs & posts you seem like someone who is very focused and disciplined.  You are no doubt well prepared for the GMATs and will ace them!!  This is your opportunity to show 'em your stuff!  Best of luck!!!  Let us know how it goes.

Think we may have mixed up some names. GumbleX is my username, but my name is Troy. Not sure I know what Eric's username is.....But we all wish you the best of luck.

Eric - I took the first computer version (now I am dating myself) several years ago and almost did not accept my score so my only recommendation is to accept your score and focus on your essays and interviews. Somehow I managed to get myself into a decent school in Philly. Email me if you could use any help! Best of luck.

Diane - thank you for the comments, hopefully I am through with my structured hazing(school) at this point in my life. Unless I can switch places with my 2nd grader! I miss those days when I used to think life was hard ;-)

See GumbleX, I knew you'd ace the GMATs! ;o(I actually took them back in the pencil & eraser days - gasp!)

John Deere - best of luck to you!!

GumbleX I hope you'll be sharing that Philly pride in Indy and cheering on our Eagles this Sunday!  I think we're heading up there this weekend to watch the game with some die-hard fans.
