Sarahswhere - Everyone has set backs in their training, don't even THINK about giving up the race because of a bad week this early on (even a bad week later!) Get the rest your body needs and you will be S/B/R-ing again in no time

Hi everyone, I've signed up for this race as my first HIM.  I've never done any tri's so I'll probably have some pretty basic questions.

Does anyone know how to set your goal time or how to predict your race times for each segment?  I am mostly concerned about predicting the bike time since it's the longest segment and I'm new to biking.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

^^^^^^

Guys who have done this alot longer than me told me "you cannot predict what you haven't done."  Just go out and do your best.

I have driven myself batty over the same subject and you just can't worry about it...easier said than done I know!!!

guppie - 2010-01-17 5:17 PM Hi Boston/Josh !!Are you racing again this year?

No, I am sticking close to home this year and doing Providence 70.3 and Syracuse 70.3 as a relay.  Maybe again in a couple of years.  I still have nightmares from the run

Thanks for the mental help.  I've been sleeping most of each day trying to get better fast.  I hope it's on it's way out.  I'd like to try a short low intensity workout tomorrow just to see if I can get something done.  Not being able to participate is killing me!  I won't give up the race because I spent good money on the registration!

I will be riding the 70.3 course this morning.  I live here in Orlando.  The weather is back to normal this week.  Any questions on the bike course let me know.  Good luck with all of your training.

I am going to be out there tomorrow (24th Jan) on the Avalon Rd and Lake Hancock Rd section. How was it? Is Hartzog Rd open? I believe Hartzog has been renamed Flamingo.

If you want to ride again tomorrow, let me know.

Hope you had a good ride!

FM- thanks for the tip on the hotel, we're booked for the Comfort Suites.  Time to track down a rental car and we're all set- at least with travel plans. There is still the matter of training....

Booth22, ask at the desk about the short cut to the Disney parking lot off 192. I believe its Sherberth rd? Turn right out of the hotel, 2/3 lights, left on Sherberth, brings you in by Animail Kingdom, right on Oceola Prwy, left on Disney's main rd. 10mins race morning to Parking lot max.

FM

PS, sherberth rd is part of the bike course heading out @ around the 12-15mi mark.

Livestrong191 - no matter where your hotel is you still have to park in the Grumpy parking lot and take a bus to the start. This is probably a 20 minute process, if I remember correctly.  Plus don't forget about body marking, checking your bike tires, mixing your nutrition, two trips to the bathroom, setting up your trans area, warming up, etc.  Think about the other tri's you have done and then think about 3000 athletes getting ready instead of just 30 or 300. I think I got there more than 2 hours before the start and I don't remember being bored just standing around.

Going good.  Ran a half mary in Miami today.  That did not go well.  Will be doing a couple of OWS this week and this should be a good week of training.  I have a sprint I am doing the first week of March that will be good.  I am doing a Olympic in April and a Century ride all before the May event. I plan on being ready.

Staying on track. I have  4 50-70 mile rides under my belt with a run after each one. The longest was 52 miles last week with 4 mile trail run after. I feel good about the race in May. I have an olympic in March and St. Anthony's in April so I should be well prepared. Good luck to everyone.

The bike course is great.  There are a few rollers but nothing significant.  It comes out of the park and travels roads on the outside of the property.  There is a portion on Avalon Road that is the most hilly but just quick rollers.  No one will go home and say man that course was tough.

Hi guys, sorry to jump your thread, but I need your advice! Weather in the UK been beyond ridiculous this winter (3 short rides in over 2 months outdoors  snow again this weekend?) so we might need a bit of Florida sunshine!  If we come over, we will stay in Orlando for the race, but ultimately we are training for IM Switzerland - so any suggestions for where to base ourselves before/after as we will come for a couple of weeks and need to do some decent biking whilst we are there as thats my worst bit?  Sarasota? Miami? (yep, been there before on holiday but never done any training there so no idea really!)  any thoughts gratefully received....

I am learning a bunch. My concern right now is the swim. I am getting better but out of the three, its my biggest concern. Thanks for all the information you guys are putting here. Its a huge help to a newbie..

If your time on the bike is important during your visit, my recommendation is for you to stay in the Orlando area and ride Clermont / Winter Garden / Sugar Loaf.  There are relatively open roads and the biggest hills in Florida.  You can go to the Routes section of this site and look for Sugarloaf, Clermont, etc...
Hope you enjoy your stay!

Also - this will be my 2nd time doing Florida Half IM... looking forward to a local race.  It's gonna be a hot one but I can't wait!!!!

Hello everybody,

Just signed up for the race.  I am currently registered to compete at IMWI in September and thought this would be a great  mid-season race for a tune-up.  In addition, I have a 5 year old that loves Disney so that didn't hurt in convincing my wife to let me shell out the cash.

I raced at IMFL 2009 and bought a new Cervelo P2 at the Expo.  IMFL 70.3 will be my first race with my new baby.  Can't wait to break it in.

Random question for all of you.  I am in the process of switching over to Newton running shoes.  I have heard that this course runs on grass and trails for a good portion of it.  Has anyone run this race in Newtons and if you did how was the traction on the grass and trails.  So far I have only used the Newtons on pavement.

Thanks for the feedback and I look forward to seeing all of you at "The place where dreams come true!"
