1. Are there natural places to fill up water bottles on the course?  It looks like there may be a store of some sort near Otto Lane at mile 35.  Are there water spigots in New Germany State Park?

2. Are these roads save for travel throughout the week or should we expect to see lots of boat or logging traffic hogging the roadway?

1. There is a small concession at NGSP, but by that point you're one mile from Howe's Market at Otto Lane, so that's where I stop.  That's about your only choice on course, though, other than Westernport.  It's a long haul from Westernport to Howe's Market (though only 17 miles), so you may want to top off in Westernport before starting the climbing.

2. Roads are good for cycling.  I like to play a game called "count the cars" from Glendale @ North Glade (2 miles) to New Germany Road (35 miles) with the exception of the 2 mile stint on 135 into Westernport.  If you get to 10 in the 2.5 - 3 hours that will take you, I'll be surprised.

JoshKaptur - 2010-08-09 9:36 AM Any interest from the BT HIMers in volunteering togther at something during the Oly?  Maybe we could convince Kyle to give us an aid station together???

A run aid station on the 30.0 could definitely be arranged.  30.0 starts late (9:30am) so station wouldn't have to be fully staffed until 10:30 or so, though at least someone would be needed earlier to get it set up.  Timeframe would be 10:00 - ~1:30.  Family / child friendly activity.

I would be up for helping out.  Likely will be driving early Saturday morning and could be at an aid station by 10:00am.

Way to go Kyle getting "The Man" Dave Scott to race with us.

PennState - 2010-08-10 3:07 PM I continue to attempt the biggest hill route in Central PA to prep for this race.

Still convinced that it will be incredibly tough!

What route is that?  Hey, a few of us are riding on Saturday if you want to just ride the real thing.

knyost - 2010-08-08 8:57 PM Because you're going to be cold, cold, cold descending into Westernport.  And you don't want to swim through a thick fog bank.

Two years in a row at 8am and we learned our lessons.

Ok thanks for the info, that makes sense. I haven't figured out how to put a blinky light on my swim cap yet

Wabash (Jason) and I are heading down to meet up with vibratingp00 (Dave) to ride the Savageman course.  I'm pretty nervous about it since I'm so slow.

It's pretty weird but I love riding despite how slow I am.

It's like a 3hr drive from Harrisburg area.

So you are driving down Fri or Sat?  Are staying the night or coming back Sat?  You guys doing the whole course?

We are heading down Saturday morning and coming back when we are done.  We have the agreement that Jason is doing all the up-hills and I am doing all the down-hills.  I think that is fair.  Laughing  (j/k...yes, the entire course)  This will be the first time I get to see it.

Rumor has it, "Six-Time Hawaii Ironman World Champion Dave Scott To Race 2010 SavageMan 70.0 Triathlon legend to race the SavageMan 70.0 at Deep Creek Lake State Park on September 19.

Dave Scott, Six-Time Hawaii Ironman World Champion and triathlon legend known simply as "The Man", will toe the start line of the SavageMan 70.0 with 500 other amateur and professional triathletes and test his savage mettle on the world's hardest triathlon bike course and the legendary 31% Westernport Wall."

Road the course Monday and Wednesday. Spring Lick is better. Pepper sprayed a dog on Mettinger...I like dogs bet he looked serious...
Cleared the Wall with a 28...on a difficulty scale of 1-10 definitely a 10. After the wall the climb is still steep for the next ~mile...getting respiration down is a challenge...
I'm sure Kaptur and Tasr will ascend the Wall on their Fixie's...just saying
For the those going today and Saturday ENJOY!

What's on the front?

I am going out next Saturday with the family. It's a 5 hour drive and I have a 4 hour ride scheduled (I hope it doesn't take me 4 to do the course!!!) so we are staying overnight Saturday and making it a mini vaca. Doing my part to stimulate the economy. Trouble is I have a 3:00 check in with a request (no guarantee) of early check in. I wanted to start riding earlier than 3:00. Maybe I'll let the wife check in once we get there if we can't get in to the room. The kids will want to hit the lake (or the game room).
