Hey Lisa, Dont worry about your age! I started at 48 ( now 51) . The most competative age group is often the 40-45 year olds!!! The first time you go out on the road on your bike with clipless do it on a road that has a few stops and is NOT heavily trafficed. You will get the hang of it in no time. EVERYONE FALLS!!! What kind of bike is Santa brining??? Pics please http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/women/1246/29289/ I don't have real pictures yet, since it's still on hold at the bike shop, but here's the web site. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but keep in mind that I'm upgrading from a comfort bike hybrid. I'm really nervous and really excited all in one. Like it was my very first two wheeler without training wheels! Lisa L |

Veteran 183 Auburn, Wa | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED The 36hr shift really isn"t that bad. Think of it as a Firefighter shift. I slept 7 hrs. Last 12 hrs only had 3 calls. It as all OT so it was hard to pass up. Normally I pick up a 24hr shift as OT but there was a sick call and the regular 24. Just made enough combined with what I had saved to get a new bike. Plan on hitting the bike shops tomorrow. I'm looking at maybe a Cervelo S1 or a Trek or a Specialized. This purchase will be a new road bike. I'm so old school my current ride is an '86' Centurian Ironman!! Hopefully next fall or winter I'll get a full tri bike. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Have a great Monday everyone!! Chris |

Hopefully next fall or winter I'll get a full tri bike. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Have a great Monday everyone!! Chris Kevin has wonderful insight into the ins and outs os getting a new bike. Lots to think about. Let me share MY experience with you: when i got my first new bike in 23 years I went shopping and was bewildered. I had not yet done my first triathlon and so dismissed the idea of a TT bike. My cycling experience had been with long long ago touring and commuting on my beloved ancient steel Bianchi. I ended up getting a custom made road bike......because the LBS had their own house brand and i could get really good components for much less $$ than had I bought a well known brand. I ended up with an all carbon roadie with Ultegra on it . I was in heaven. I put aero bars on it and away i went. Fast forward to last year about this time.......the triathlon bug had bitten me HARD. Yes. I wanted a TT bike. Did I need it? Of course not. Did I get it?? YES. I ended up getting a Cervelo P2 with Dura Ace. I fondly refer to her as "sexy girl" cause she is. I cannot describe to you how it feels to ride this bike. I bought it in February of this year so was tethered to a trainer for quite some time. She and I hit the pavement for the first time in April. I was blown away. Literally. I actually pulled over to the side of the road to call the shop where I bought it to tell them how amazing it was to ride. I am NO technical bike expert. I am an "emotional" rider!! All I can say was that I felt like I was flying, effortlessly. I am in love with this bike. And my road bike?? Sits in a corner. I virtually NEVER use it. In all honesty i wish I had gone straight to a TT bike. Could have saved myself a pile of $$. Now keep in mind that I do not do group rides....all my riding is done either solo or with one or two other people so a tri bike fits my life. This is certainly not the case with many folks. This is just my personal experience. I probably have not helped you at all here! But I just wanted to share my story with you. |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED Cervelo P2 - gotta love 'em! You CAN ride with a group, if you are careful and know what you are doing, but the group has to be comfortable with that. Usually riding a TT bike with road cyclists is usually going to get "pooh-poohed" or nixed. Safety is a concern. |

Master 1690 Metro NY Area | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED I'll join in the P2 Love fest. Since TT/Tri bikes have their brakes off from where your hands normally are that is why they are not a good choice for group rides, pace lines etc. It just doesn't work into the group riding dynamic and I understand why. They are great for solo riding or riding with a buddy or two. I have a P2 DA also. I save it for special occasions and tri specific training rides. 1stTimeTri - 2009-12-21 2:37 PM Cervelo P2 - gotta love 'em! The LBS couldn't get one, then was shocked and wondered what I said to the company that allowed me to get one. Kinda funny. |

I was overwhelmed when I first began the process. I looked at them all it seemed...again and again. In the end, I debated over a Specialized Transition and a Fuji ALoha. I ended up with a Fuji Aloha DA. And...it's red.....so we know it's fast.... ") |

Veteran 183 Auburn, Wa | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED Just got back from from multiple LBSs. My head is spinning. I'm definitely getting a bike fitting. I think I'm going to stick with a road bike at this point. I would love to have a tri bike but for the type of riding I'll be doing for the next yr. I think it's a better choice at this point. I need to get my riding and bike handling skills back. I looked at the Cervelo S1, Specialized Tarmac elite and comp, Scott CR1, some Felt models and a Giant or two. I'm still leaning toward the Cervelo, mainly at this point because I like the way it sits and looks. I didn't ride anything. I'm going to set an appt after the new year for a fitting and then we'll go from there. All of the advice so far has been great and is greatly appreciated. Now I get to comb the internet for reviews and bike evals. Again, thanks to all for their thoughts!! Chris |

(not that I blame you... you two look good together) Ha ha.....yes I am a tad biased! Obviously the bike has to fit....first and foremost....but.......Cervelos are just so darn PURDY! And Canadian to boot! Did you know that it was two engineering students at McGill that came up with the framset idea as part of their Masters thesis or something like that? And lo and behold a bike company was born. I think thats cool........ |
