bananatoes - 2010-03-18 9:47 AM oh yeah - less than a month to go until I get to unveil my pasty white frame at the grand natatorium in Oxford, Ohio. Has anyone had success in finding tri shorts of colors other than black for less than 100$? Black doesnt complement my white skin as well

It's a good thing that my goggles are tinted - this way I will not be blinded by you. Good luck finding the tri shorts in a color other than black.

either check trisports.com for older stock shorts in their closeout section (often there are a lot of non-black ones in there), or get a pair of womens tri shorts (yes i am being serious).

unlike bike shorts the pads/shape are almost the same as guys and in the smaller sizes fit well (yes i have experience).

Also, they come in lovely shades of pink, light blue, and even red. Very manly.

I hearby challenge David Tris to a pink speedo triathlon for the title of Most Manly Guy In a Pink Speedo. We can accept donations for a charity. Maybe HFP can put on an offical Pink Speedo Race. Heavily tinted googles might be a good idea - perhaps for the whole race.

That would make the swim difficult.
Or did you mean brown paper bags for the spectators?

I meant for the spectators because while I may not want to see it I wouldn't miss it for anything.

I bow to your overly impressive photoshop skills. I might use this as a presentation to Pearl Izumi about a new line of tri shorts. Not sure what the target demographic would be.

Are you suggesting that I photoshopped that pic!? How dare you sir, how dare you.

Tom, you purchase the tri gear, and I'll wear it during all legs of a triathlon, oly distance or less. My only stipulations are that you have to wear a matching kit and that the kit must be worn on the outer-most layer. Should the kit consist only of speedo-type briefs a shirt may be worn on the upper body during the bike and run segments.

The target demographic  for PI would be manly men, of course.

ETA: Maybe we could get donations for this. Due to the pink nature I suggest the Susan B. Kolman foundation for breast cancer. I bet if we made an appeal in COJ or tri-talk we could get a fair amount. Alice could set up a website as well.

Not in women's sizes, no.

I could probably squeeze into a XL or XXL in a womens. But see if they offer the pink in a men's L or XL first.

Also, I will start another thread for this venture- as we have hijacked this one for our own personal amusement quite enough.

i'm in.

i made two small changes in my swim and everything just clicked.

made an effort to get turnover up and make sure i was pushing with my lats, and it started feeling natural again.

times dropped that day, went from ave 130s for 100s to sub 1:20 again, not where i was last year but swim volume is WAY down from 18k a week to 8k a week right now, so happy with how its going, and shoulder is holding up, so i can build from here.

This was my very first tri when I did it last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing how much I can improve!  I had borrowed a ridiculously old road bike that was really heavy and didn't train as much.  This year, I'm gonna rock a new bike and I've been much better about training-- so I'm pretty pumped (and as an alumna, I'm always fairly excited to make a return to Oxford Smile

I dropped 15 pounds off the body and 7 more pounds by buying a nice bike since last year. Bring on the hills!!!

50m long course pool.
You swim down one lane, back i nthe next. you can pass/be passed.

The "shallow end" is appox 6feet i think.

I understand this course for the swim is a serpentine with swimmers being released every two -three seconds.

-Is the pool 50m?
-Will swimmers be passing each other in opposite directions?
-Are you DQ if you stand on the bottom at the shallow end ?
-Is one end shallow?

I guess I'm asking for someone to describe the swim course to me.

Thanks.

-yes
-no - all swimmers are going the same direction in each lane.
-no.  you can hold the line, wall or stand as needed
-i think one end is shallow but i can't remember for sure

you come in the pool area and listen to a pre race meeting (which you won't be able to hear)
you line up in speed order fastest to slowest.
you get your timing chip while you move along the pool in the line.
you start at the far end of the pool.

when it is your turn - do not cross the timing mat until you are ready to swim - have your goggles on and your mental attitude set.

wait 5 or 10 seconds after the person ahead of you - cross the mat, jump in and START swimming immediately

when you reach the far wall you pass under the lane line and swim back the next lane
continue this until you have reached the end of the last lane.

take the steps out or just pull yourself out - hit the door in front of you and run to the transition area.
